Space, smart storage, intuitive tech: the all-electric Volvo EX30 small SUV embodies the best of Scandinavian design
The new, fully electric Volvo EX30 is not just designed for safety and increased sustainability, it also aims to make your life more convenient, more relaxing and more enjoyable through cutting-edge tech and considerate Scandinavian design. Our new small SUV has a stylish interior that embraces sustainable thinking, while carefully crafted compilations of materials enhance the distinct graphic design of the interior. With recycled and renewable materials such as denim, flax and wool, as well as a variety of expressive colours and textures, our interior has responsible design at its core. And when you interact with the EX30, it offers a contextual user experience, smartly removing complexity for more focused and enjoyable driving on a single screen. On top of that, features such as a soundbar covering the entire width of
the dashboard – the first of its kind in a car – and an array of smart storage ideas combine to deliver a big-car experience with less.
“The Volvo EX30 combines all the best elements of Scandinavian design,” says Lisa Reeves, our Head of Interior Design. “New materials add creative textures, colour and personality to the cabin, while smart functionality and a great user experience are the hallmark of every true Volvo creation. Together, these elements distil the essence of a Volvo into a small package.”Our soundbar in the EX30, the first of its kind, is inspired by home audio design. It brings several speakers together into one soundbar and fills the entire cabin with premium sound. When you choose to combine it with the Harman Kardon highend sound system, you can listen to your favourite music and podcasts in
outstanding audio quality. The centralisation theme inside the EX30 is also represented by the single 12.3-inch centre screen, positioned in the centre of the dashboard, which contains all relevant information for you as a driver. Putting everything into a single screen means we can create a feeling of space around the driver, as well as save on materials.
When picking your new Volvo EX30, you can choose from four distinct interior ‘rooms’. They take a more sustainable approach to materials and each comes with its own expression. For example, one room embraces the timeless appeal of denim and incorporates waste product from the denim recycling process. The new Volvo EX30 will be revealed on 7 June and will be available to order or pre-order in selected markets on the same date.
The new BMW 5 Series Saloon
More dynamic than ever, featuring a wealth of digital innovations and all-electric drive for the first time, the eighth generation of the BMW 5 Series Saloon continues to stand for advanced technology combined with sporty, elegant design and hallmark driving pleasure. The new generation of the world's most successful business saloon also intensifies its commitment to sustainability, significantly reducing its carbon footprint by 20 to 25 per cent in the supply chain, and up to 58 per cent across its life cycle compared to its predecessor.
The exterior design of the latest generation reinterprets the sporty elegance of a BMW 5 Series Saloon in the brand’s current design language. Its proportions make the character of the dynamic business saloon instantly recognisable. As a performance model from BMW M GmbH, the allelectric BMW i5 M60 xDrive comes as standard with specific exterior features that visually underline its outstanding sporting potential.
The road presence of the new BMW
5 Series Saloon is enhanced by its athletic proportions and the larger exterior measurements compared to its predecessor. The eight generation vehicle has grown in length by 97mm to 5,06mm, in width by 32mm to 1,900mm and in height by 36mm to 1,515mm. The wheelbase has been increased by 20mm to 2,995mm for improved seating comfort, especially in the rear.
In addition to a pure-electric drivetrain, the latest generation BMW 5 Series debuts several firsts for the iconic saloon. It is the first BMW in the UK to feature Veganza upholstery as standard from launch, encompassing the seats, dashboard and door panels while the striking BMW Interaction Bar first seen in the BMW 7 Series is now incorporated in the new BMW 5 Series. Furthermore, the saloon is now available with a panoramic roof – the first time in the model’s history – and the digital experience is taken to a new high with cutting-edge additions of AIdriven servicing notifications and the
introduction of in-car gaming.
Like all previous model generations, the new BMW 5 Series Saloon is manufactured at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. In 1973, the first vehicle manufactured at the plant was a first-generation BMW 5 Series Saloon.
Available in three exceptionally well specified trim levels in the UK – M Sport, M Sport Pro and the exclusive BMW i5 M60 xDrive – the new BMW 5 Series Saloon is available to order now priced from £49,850.
The BMW 5 Series Saloon range will further expand in early 2024 with the introduction of the BMW 530e and BMW 550e xDrive plug-in hybrid models, which are expected to offer an electric range of 49 - 56 miles (WLTP) and 54 - 62 miles (WLTP) respectively. Also set to join the model family in spring 2024 is the next generation of the BMW 5 Series Touring, which will also be available with all-electric drive for the first time, as well as with plug-in hybrid drive and pure combustion engine drive.
The switch to the MQB platform is visible in the new Caddy’s more dynamic- looking proportions. The designers utilised the exciting technical opportunity presented by the MQB platform to create a completely redesigned vehicle body – one that is more charismatic than ever. With the cw value reduced from 0.33 to 0.30, the Caddy sets a new benchmark for this type of vehicle. In terms of engineering and specification, the exterior of the Caddy has a number of new features. These include as options the electric closing aids for the sliding doors and tailgate, plus a panoramic sunroof – with an especially large glass area of 1.4 m2 above both the first and second rows of seats. Also new: up to 18-inch alloy wheels and – fitted as standard in the top versions – new LED headlights and LED rear lights.
The new Caddy will again launch as the Cargo (panel van with enclosed superstructure), an estate (with passenger compartment windows) and in various different passenger car
variants (MPVs). The nomenclature of the passenger car lines has been reconfigured: the base model will in future be the ‘Caddy’; above that follows the ‘Life’ specification and finally the premium ‘Style’ line. In fact, All of the models are even better equipped than the corresponding previous one.
Inside, the fifth generation of the all-rounder impresses with new hightech solutions and appreciably more space. The long version – the Caddy Maxi – now, for example, provides room for up to two Euro pallets, which can optionally be loaded sideways in the middle and back or sideways in the middle and lengthways in the back. The indicator and control elements have been completely redesigned: the interactive interfaces to driver and front- seat passenger are formed by the new Digital Cockpit (optionally fully digital instruments) and the radio and infotainment systems (between 6.5 and 10 inches in size). The fusion of Digital Cockpit and top 10-inch navigation system creates a new digital landscape
online connectivity unit (OCU) with integrated eSIM the infotainment systems are able to access the mobile online services and functions of ‘Volkswagen We’, meaning the new Caddy is ‘always connected’.
Another new feature in the Caddy: digital buttons for light, sight, audio and menu functions. The rotary switch for light has served its time, with the front array of buttons for Light & Sight to the left of the steering wheel now taking over its role. Various items of the central control system’s menu can be reached very quickly and easily via the direct access buttons. In addition, LED interior lights, ergonomic seats and a power supply for external 230V devices enhance life on board. Another new feature is a roof vent for better climate control and faster stationary ventilation in the back.
Six of the 19 driver assistance systems on the Caddy are completely new. They include Travel Assist, which, for the first time in a Volkswagen commercial vehicle, facilitates assisted driving across the full speed range. In connection with Travel Assist, the Caddy’s redesigned multifunction steering wheel is also equipped with capacitive sensors. These sensors ensure precise detection of even a lightly touching hand, thus avoiding any false alarms. Now also in the new Caddy: Trailer Assist, familiar from the Crafter, for significantly easier reverse manoeuvring and Side Assist inclusive of Rear Traffic Alert. The existing assistance systems in the Caddy have been significantly expanded and updated with new functions.
The new Caddy: more digital, connected, efficient and charismatic than ever before

Hybrid technology arrives in the Fiat City Car line-up
The Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda will be the first FCA models to adopt the group’s new hybrid technology. The new 500 Mild Hybrid and Panda Mild Hybrid will make hybrid technology accessible to all, arriving in UK showrooms from February and March 2023 respectively.
Both models provide all the benefits of efficient, compact, lightweight and accessible hybrid driving. For the last 120 years, Fiat has been a pioneer in technology and an innovator in mobility. Now, it looks to more sustainable mobility.
2023 marks a new milestone in the history of Fiat. The electrification of the brand will begin with the launch of the new mild hybrid versions of the Fiat 500 and the Panda and will continue with the start of production of the new 500 in its spiritual home of Turin. This model will be 100 per cent electric and will therefore play a key role in the FCA e-Mobility strategy.
The 500 and Panda will be available with a new petrol mild hybrid engine that combines the latest 3-cylinder FireFly 1.0-litre engine family with a 12-volt BSG electric motor and a lithium battery that delivers 70hp (51kW).
Compared to the outgoing
1.2-litre 69hp petrol engine, the mild hybrid version improves fuel efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions on the road by up to 30 per cent without impeding performance. It also ensures a very high standard of driving comfort thanks to the BSG system, allowing for a quiet, vibration-free restart of the internal combustion engine in Stop&Start mode.
The new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine has a peak power output of 70hp (51kW) at 6,000rpm and peak torque of 92Nm at 3,500rpm. The cylinder head has two valves per cylinder and a single camshaft with continuous variable valve timing (the timing is chain-driven). The structure includes a compact combustion chamber, high-tumble intake ducts and external Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), providing a remarkably high compression ratio (12:1), which translates into better thermal efficiency. The crankcase, developed in collaboration with Teksid, is made of high-pressure diecast aluminium alloy with cast-iron cylinder liners, to reduce start-up times and contain the weight of the engine to just 77kg. Additionally, friction is reduced using a crank mechanism with a bore/stroke
ratio of 1.24 and a connecting rod/ crank device with a 10mm offset to maximise efficiency.
The BSG system is mounted directly on the engine and is operated by the belt that also drives the auxiliaries. The system recovers energy during braking and deceleration, stores it in a lithium battery with a capacity of 11Ah, and uses it, at a maximum power of 3,600W, to restart the engine in Stop&Start mode and to assist it during acceleration.
This technology allows the internal combustion engine to switch off by shifting into neutral, even at speeds below 18mph. The dashboard, which displays information on the hybrid system, prompts the driver when to shift.
The mild hybrid propulsion unit used in the Panda and 500 receives a 6-gear manual transmission (transverse gearbox, front-wheel drive), aimed at improving fuel economy in out-of-town driving, thanks to new low-friction bearings and gaskets and the use of a specific high-efficiency lubricant. The new system also involves lowering the entire power unit 45mm so the car behaves better on the road thanks to the lower centre of gravity.
Toyota Proace and Proace City take double honours in the first What Car? Van Awards
When it comes to all-round realworld usability, Toyota has the best small and medium vans on the market, according to What Car? which has today named Proace and Proace City as “best for practicality” class winners its first van awards.
It’s a comprehensive success for the models, which cover the most competitive segments in the market. Going beyond a capacious load space and high payload, both offer an ingenious Smart Cargo system which extends carrying capacity for longer items through the bulkhead with a folding passenger seat mechanism. Smart Cargo is provided as standard on all new Proace vans and is available as an option or standard, according to equipment grade, on Proace City.
Commenting on the award for Proace, Steve Huntingford, What Car? Editor, said: “Our judges selected the Proace because the practical nature of a van extends beyond the vehicle’s simple shell.”
He added that practicality “goes beyond the load space,” drawing attention to the lay-out of the “comfortable” cabin and the availability of “clever tech” options that can help reduce driver fatigue
and take some of the stress out of driving.
Turning to Proace City, Huntingford said: “This van can carry almost 4m3, with payloads up to 1,000kg… and it has the longest load length of any vehicle in its class. Further upticks follow because you can have your vehicle in a variety of sizes, with standard or long wheelbase options.”
Stuart Ferma, General Manager Toyota and Lexus Fleet Sales, said: “Proace and Proace City are central to the scope and appeal of our Toyota Professional LCV range, so it is very rewarding to see their designed-in practicality being rewarded by What Car? Together these models cover a wide span of business customer needs, answering not just the requirements for carrying capability, but for being safe, efficient, comfortable and reliable, too.”

Toyota Proace City wins Compact Van of the Year in the What Van? Awards
The Toyota Proace City has been awarded the Compact Van of the Year title in the coveted What Van? Awards, announced at a virtual event yesterday (9 December).
Launched on the UK market in March this year and already on its third award, Proace City boasts a load volume of up to 4.4m3, payload capacity of up to one tonne and can tow braked loads of up to 1.5 tonnes. The optional Smart Cargo system creates even more load space and allows for longer items to be carried with ease.
Proace City’s 1.5-litre powertrains are highly efficient, in terms of both fuel economy and CO2 emissions –performance which contributes to a strong cost-of-ownership profile.
Equipment specifications are tailored for practicality and convenience, with a cab that can also double as a mobile office when business needs to happen on the move.
Commenting on the win, James Dallas, What Van? Editor, said, “Having joined the proven PSA Group platform for the production of its debut compact van, Toyota has jumped straight to the top of the class with the Proace City. It comes with a five-year warranty and fiveyear roadside assistance and is set to command outstanding residual values.”
Stuart Ferma, General Manager Toyota and Lexus Fleet Sales, said, “The addition of Proace City to our light commercial vehicle range has
brought Toyota into the second largest segment of the UK LCV market and strengthened the Toyota Professional branding we gave to our LCV range earlier in the year. With more than two thirds of Toyota retailers already signed up to the Professional programme we can offer more customers higher levels of service and expertise across the country.”
All Toyota Professional commercial vehicles come with a fiveyear/100,000 mile manufacturer warranty along with five-year’s roadside assistance. In addition, a convenient servicing commitment guarantees an appointment within seven days or a reduction of 50 per cent off the labour charge if this timescale cannot be met.

More powerful engine adds muscle to the mighty Toyota Hilux
When it comes to a pick-up that’s right for the job, looking the part simply isn’t enough: you need muscle to match the looks. The new Toyota Hilux is strengthening its appeal with a new, more powerful 2.8-litre engine that maintains its reputation as one of the most competitive and capable models in its segment.
The new engine leads a series of technical, dynamic, styling and equipment upgrades for the worldfamous “go-anywhere” Hilux. It powers new top-of-the-range Invincible X and (in addition to the current 2.4 unit) Invincible Double Cab models and is available with a choice of automatic or manual transmission.
The DOHC 16-valve 2,755cc turbodiesel unit generates 201bhp/150kW at 3,400rpm.
Maximum torque is 500Nm with a sixspeed automatic transmission, available between 1,600 and 2,800rpm. With manual transmission, the figure is 420Nm, delivered between 1,400 and 3,400rpm.
There’s a significant improvement
in performance compared to Hilux’s established 2.4-litre unit, with 0-62mph acceleration reduced by 2.1 seconds to 10.7 seconds (automatic version). Despite the engine’s larger capacity and higher output, there is only a modest difference in fuel and emissions efficiency: official WLTP combined cycle data shows 28.5 – 30.0mpg and 246 – 259g/ km with automatic transmission; 31.3 – 33.2mpg and 224 – 236g/km with manual transmission.
New Hilux maintains its one-tonne payload capacity and the ability to tow (braked) loads of up to 3.5 tonnes.
The key to this strong balance of performance and efficiency is design and engineering details throughout the engine’s construction. These include an optimised combustion chamber shape, pistons and piston rings, a DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating on the piston rings and slowing of the combustion gas flow to reduce cooling losses.
There is also a two-stage oil pump that can change the oil pressure
as required, reducing the pump driving force when the engine is cold or operating under light loads and the friction caused by early piston warmup.
The exhaust gas recirculation section of the intake manifold is designed to suppress variation in the gas and intake efficiency has been improved by dispensing with the swirl control valve. Further measures have adjusted catalyst capacity and performance to ensure compliance with Euro 6d emissions regulations.
The engine is quieter, too, with less vibration thanks to detailed adjustment to the shape of the intake manifold and the catalytic converter’s insulator.
New Hilux continues to offer the option of the successful 148bhp/110kW 2.4-litre turbodiesel unit fitted with a fuel and emissions-reducing stop-start system (excepting the entry level Active grade).
The new Toyota Hilux is available to order now with customer deliveries from late November.

Mercedes-Benz Vans adds new Mercedes Pro Connect services to Sprinter, Vito and eVito models
and electric mobility services to Mercedes PRO connect. Further new features to the system in the past six months also included realtime variable servicing monitoring, parking time monitor and additional geo-fence options.
Mercedes-Benz Vans UK Ltd has enhanced the capabilities of its class-leading connectivity system, Mercedes PRO connect, with the addition of two new services –Remote Access and Digital Drivers’ Log.
Remote Vehicle Access means that a driver assigned to a vehicle can lock and unlock the vehicle and operate the optional auxiliary heater (if fitted) from anywhere in the world. This allows packages to be dropped off to the load compartment, for example, even if the driver is not with the vehicle. In addition, the driver is able to set the vehicles’ optional auxiliary heater. If the keys are locked in the vehicle, they can also now be retrieved more easily. It also offers improved antitheft protection, as unlocked vehicle doors are noticed, flagged on the system, and can be remotely locked again.
Digital Driver’s Log enables journey logs to be generated into an exportable PDF fi le that can be kept for company records, or can be used to assist vehicle managers or administrators in calculating personal versus business mileage and a complete record of all journeys. This enables more efficient working procedures, as tedious and error-prone manual entries in a journey log are no longer necessary.
Since the introduction of Mercedes PRO connect with the latest generation of the Sprinter in June 2018, Mercedes-Benz Vans has connected 9,500 new Sprinter vehicles in the UK, giving customers greater security, safety and efficiency benefits.
Mercedes PRO connect constantly updates itself, giving customers new features and benefits up to every six months. In 2019, Mercedes-Benz Vans added Drive Style monitoring
Steve Bridge, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz Vans UK Ltd, said: “We are committed to enhancing the value our connected vehicle services that we offer to our customers to help keep their businesses moving. We don’t want to introduce gimmicks; we truly believe that these digital services will add genuine value to the van community and provide small ways to give them one less thing to think about. As is always the case too, we welcome feedback from van drivers and operators about their use of Mercedes PRO connect and any ideas of what they would like to see developed, so that we can continue to provide the most innovative solution for this hard working community.”
Mercedes-Benz Vans is offering these new digital services for all vehicles activated after 13.01.2023. All Mercedes PRO connect services including the newly released ‘Remote Access’ and ‘Digital Drivers Log’ are now included free of charge, for three years. MercedesBenz Vans is also working on an update to remotely retrofit the software to previously connected vehicles, to allow all eligible customers to benefit from these exciting updates, which should be available by the end of Q1 2023.

first truly great car of the decade” –New Toyota GR Yaris triumphs again as Autocar's Best Hot Hatch
Another week and another top honour for the new Toyota GR Yaris, which has seen off all competition to take top spot in Autocar magazine’s annual test to find Britain’s Best Affordable Driver’s Car.
Not only did the new pure rally-bred machine see off all its market rivals, it went on to outperform the latest exotic supercars from Lamborghini, Porsche and Aston Martin to claim third place in the overall Best Driver’s Car rankings, just five points off taking top spot.
Given the results, it’s not surprising that Autocar declares GR Yaris to be “the first truly great car of the decade.” The achievement follows up the Hot Hatch of the Year title the Toyota earned from Car magazine just last week.
In the affordable driver’s car test
programme, the GR Yaris Circuit Pack was ranked first by five out of the six road test team judges, with the sixth placing it second to seal an emphatic win.
In appraising the car’s special qualities, Autocar explains how the car revealed “hidden depths of driver appeal, the likes of which haven’t been seen in a hot hatchback in a generation.” Among the judges, Andrew Frankel declares the GR Yaris to be “the most dynamically capable car ever offered for sale at this kind of money.”
The achievement is a reward for the development team behind GR Yaris, including Toyota Gazoo Racing, its World Rally Championship partner Tommi Mäkinen Racing and a test team line-up of top WRC drivers. Their efforts have delivered a rally
homologation special for the road that’s available from just less than £30,000 and with competitive purchase offers for customers keen to secure one of the hottest new prospects on the market.
GR Yaris uses the world’s most powerful three-cylinder engine, turbocharged to produce 257bhp –power enough to move the car from rest to 62mph in 5.5 seconds. It’s built on a dedicated chassis and uses Toyota’s new purpose-designed GRFour all wheel drive system, adjustable for different front/rear drive balance to suit the conditions, from road to track to special stage. The Circuit Pack version, as tested by Autocar, includes GR-tuned suspension, front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials, lightweight forged BBS alloys and Michelin Pilot 4S performance tyres.

Toyota Corolla gains new features and specifications for 2023
Toyota’s British-built, all-hybrid range of Corolla Hybrid Hatchback and Touring Sports models is primed for 2023 with a series of equipment and style upgrades.
For the Icon grade – entry point to the Corolla line-up – the specification now includes a new seven-inch colour multi-information display in the driver’s instrument binnacle, while both Icon and Icon Tech versions are fitted with new LED front fog lights. These features are now standard across the full Corolla range.
Design models present a new-look cabin with a new black cloth seat upholstery and a textured chrome trim line running through the dashboard and door panels. There’s a new material for the door panel
inserts and centre console trim, plus cool blue ambient lighting in the doors, front cup holders and centre console tray.
The Design grade comes with new-design 10-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels.
There are four new colour choices for the optional bi-tone finish for the GR Sport and Excel Hatchback models: Denim Blue, Manhattan Grey, Obsidian Blue and Pure White, each combine with a black roof, pillars and door mirror housings. Obsidian Blue also joins the list of Corolla monotone paint finishes.
All Corolla Hatchback, Touring Sports and Saloon models gain an EV drive indicator in the driver’s instrument binnacle, showing
when the car is running on electric power alone, with zero emissions and fuel consumption. The MyT connected car app and multimedia has additional functions, including stolen vehicle tracking, remote status check which confirms if the lights are off, the windows closed and the doors locked, and eCare remote “health check” which alerts the owner to any malfunction warnings that require attention. The 2023 Toyota Corolla range is on sale now.
Toyota announces prices and order books opening for new RAV4 Plugin and Highlander Hybrid SUVs
PLUG-IN HYBRID VERSION OF RAV4 TO BE AVAILABLE IN THE UK IN TWO EQUIPMENT GRADES, DYNAMIC AND DYNAMIC PREMIUM
• Prices from £47,395 on the road
• Orders accepted from 4 January; first customer deliveries from second quarter of 2023
HIGHLANDER HYBRID – THE FIRST HIGHLANDER MODEL TO BE OFFERED FOR SALE IN THE UK – ALSO AVAILABLE IN TWO VERSIONS, EXCEL AND EXCEL PREMIUM
• Prices from £50,595 on the road
• Orders accepted from 4 January; first deliveries from March 2023
Today Toyota announces order book opening dates and prices for two new models that will swell its range of SUVs in the New Year: RAV4 Plug-in, the fi rst plug-in hybrid version of the world’s best-selling SUV, and the all-new Highlander Hybrid, the fi rst version of the large SUV to be sold in the UK.
RAV4 Plug-in
The new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid is the new flagship of Toyota’s hybrid electric range and also the most powerful RAV4 yet, its system producing 302bhp. Its default operating mode will be all-electric, with its new plug-in hybrid system enabling a 46-mile driving range on a full battery charge (WLTP data) and speeds up to 84mph. Official fuel consumption is 282mpg with 22g/km CO2 emissions (WLTP combined cycle), securing a benefitin-kind rate of just six per cent for company car tax payers.
Featuring a 2.5-litre petrol engine, a more powerful electric motor and a larger battery, RAV4 Plug-in delivers both more rewarding performance (0-62mph in six seconds) and drivability, with 50 per cent more available at 37mph compared to the standard RAV4 Hybrid.
The new model will be available in two equipment grades: Dynamic and Dynamic Premium. Based on the equivalent RAV4 Hybrid specification, RAV4 Plug-in Dynamic will offer 19-inch machined-face alloy wheels, nine-inch multimedia touchscreen, access to connected services, heated front and rear seats and LED projector headlights. To support its EV capability, it will come with a 6.6kW (32A) cable for fast charging (wall box system required).
The Dynamic premium version adds features include black leather upholstery, front seats with ventilation and memory settings, panoramic roof, head-up display and JBL Premium Sound System.
On-the-road prices are £47,395 for the RAV4 Plug In Dynamic and £50,895 for the Dynamic Premium. Orders will be accepted from 4 January with fi rst vehicles being delivered to customers during the second quarter of 2023.
Highlander Hybrid
The all-new Highlander Hybrid is the fourth generation of Toyota’s large SUV, but the fi rst to be offered for sale in the UK.
Built on Toyota’s GA-K platform, it has authentic SUV credentials, combined with high levels of comfort, drivability, seating for up to seven and a fourth generation hybrid electric powertrain.
Two grades will be available: Excel and Excel Premium. The Excel specification includes 20-inch alloy wheels, leather seat upholstery, three-zone air conditioning, a panoramic roof and a JBL Premium Sound System. The Premium model adds a head-up display, power tailgate with hands-free operation, heated rear seats, 360-degree camera and a different 20-inch alloy wheel design.
Order books will open for Highlander Hybrid on 4 January, with the fi rst vehicles due for delivery from March 2023. The Excel model is priced at £50,595 on-the-road and the Excel Premium at £52,575.
Further information and detailed specifications for both models will be announced in the New Year.
Hat trick for the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio at What Car? Car of the Year Awards
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio has taken home the accolades of Performance Car of the Year for the third year in a row at the annual What Car? Car of the Year Awards 2023. The four-leafclover has once again proved to be a lucky charm, as the Giulia fought off tough competition across all price points to top the category.
Judged by the expert team at What Car?, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio won them over with its combination of class-leading driving dynamics, characterful engine and its unexpected versatility which makes it ideal as a daily driver.
Steve Huntingford, What Car?
Editor praised the Alfa Romeo
Giulia Quadrifoglio saying: “For the third year in a row, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is What Car?'s performance car of the year, and for very good reason. A big part of its appeal is a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 that has more than a dash of Ferrari DNA. However, despite it directing 503bhp to the rear wheels alone, this isn’t some scary monster of a car. Traction is fantastic, whatever the weather. And while the Giulia can be persuaded to wag its tail when you put it in race mode, this is something to be enjoyed rather than wary of, given the speed and precision of the steering. As a bonus, when the standard adaptive suspension is in
its most compliant setting, the ride is supple enough for long journeys to pass by comfortably, making the Giulia a performance car you can use every day.”
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is powered by a 510hp, 600Nm Bi-Turbo V6 petrol engine, which allows it to reach a top speed of 176mph, while reaching 62mph from zero in just 3.9 seconds.
Arnaud Leclerc, managing director FCA UK, commented: “Picking up this award for the third year in a row is real testament to work that went into creating the Giulia Quadrifoglio, as it continues to stand the test of time as a true performance car.”
Sprinter retains Large Van of the Year honour at Great British Fleet Awards
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has retained the Large Van of the Year honour at the Great British Fleet Awards, held 30 January 2023 in London.
Dan Gilkes, Van Fleet World Editor and one of the judges for the Great British Fleet Awards, said: “While several players in the heavy van market have raised their game in the last 12 months, none has taken the sector further forward than Mercedes’ Sprinter. Front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, manual, automatic, high powered or fleet stalwart, Sprinter continues to offer a model to suit every application.
“Even in its largest form, the
big Mercedes is easy to drive, as a local delivery vehicle or a longdistance hauler. It also continues to return commendably frugal fuel figures, helping to keep total cost of ownership low.
"As mentioned last year, the biggest step that Mercedes has taken with Sprinter is in the cab, where the MBUX interface leads the way in easy to operate driver assistance technology. Factor in a growing number of Mercedes PRO telematic and fleet management solutions and the Sprinter easily retains our Best Large Van award.”
Steve Bridge, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz Vans UK, commented: “When we say that we
keep businesses moving, we mean it; to retain Large Van of the Year thanks to Mercedes PRO connect really does highlight that we have the right products and services to support fleet owners and drivers and ensure that we do exactly that; help keep their business moving.”
Since its launch in 1995, the Sprinter has defined and re-defined a whole segment numerous times. It has notched a succession of technological ‘firsts’ including the ESP stability system, Crosswind Assist, the Euro VI emissions standard, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, and collected more than 85 industry awards.
