Jeux de masse – une vraie réussite ! Ce samedi 4 août, nous étions tous rassemblés par une belle après-midi estivale pour d’inoubliables jeux de masse. Dans l’esprit du scoutisme, les 4 héros se sont tout d’abord serré la main de sorte que le fairplay soit de mise. Une fois la photo de groupe prise, on a encore donné les consignes de sécurité - on ne sait jamais ! Entre-temps, quelques vagues mexicaines ont traversé l’arène et pour encourager tout le monde, les super-héros ont montré leur danse. Papier, essuies, gaufres Et puis, les vrais jeux ont commencé. Lancer des avions en papier, manger des gaufres, passer des ballons à l’aide de serviettes de bain, et d’autres jeux étaient les ingrédients pour une après-midi bien remplie de joie, de compétition et de scoutisme. There was some serious Manitou-pulling as well. Comme le vrai esprit du scoutisme nous dit : participer et s’amuser, c’est ce qui compte le plus. Et tout le monde a bien participé ! Merci de votre enthousiasme ! Toboggan Les collaborateurs de logistique avaient préparé une course d’obstacles : une personne de chaque sous-camp partait de sa tribune, courait derrière les tribunes afin d’arriver au pied d’un toboggan. Il suffisait de se laisser glisser dans une piscine spécialement creusée pour l’occasion. Et cette petite baignade faisait vraiment du bien pendant ce temps. En fin d’après-midi, c’était aux staffs de sous-camp de faire la course, tous ensemble ! Les participants ont crié à s’en casser la voix pour encourager leur staff. Quelle foule énorme !

But you were a part of this special experience. So many others shared it with you. The stories of JamBe 2013 will go home, to Thailand and Ukraine, to France, Spain and Denmark. Take a look in your participants guide! 15 years old Jane Avery from England was very enthusiastic in completing her Friendship Award questions with a total of 95%. She is still searching for someone who shares the same birth date as her. On the other hand, Katie Wilison had a geniotic idea to go beyond all odds in receiving her Friendship Award, in order to find someone that was born on the same day as her. Wathunya Hussarungsee, 17, from Thailand and Charlotte Dekien, 15, from France were both so excited to meet their new friends they both forgot to record any information! The majority of JamBe 2013 participants have a positive outlook towards the friendship challenge. Chapman Fan from Hong Kong says it is an excellent icebreaker to meet new people. The Thai group added that they have enjoyed learning about the different cultures while sharing theirs. A message from behind the scenes... “Our country went over 500 days without a government because the North and the South could not agree. It’s great to see that we can all set aside our differences here. We are able to assist each other in pioneering while just having a good time. I have seen friendships and unity form, those will strengthen any nation, including ours.” Words by Vincent (IST) from Belgium.

De mannen van de nacht Op algemeen verzoek waagde team Communicatie zich een nachtje aan een shift bij ploeg Veiligheid. Met het massaspel en het feestje beloofde het een drukke avond te worden, dus gingen we ons om half tien aanmelden bij de kapel. Gewapend met een walkietalkie en een zaklamp trokken we naar de grote tent, waar het feestje zijn einde naderde. Na het laatste nummer begonnen we er echt aan. In samenwerking met de aanwezige IST werd de tent stap voor stap ontruimd. Ondanks het hardnekkige protest van enkele enthousiastelingen was de klus op een twintigtal minuten geklaard en werd de tent afgesloten voor de deelnemers. Het patrouilleren kon beginnen. Thee op Lundea Gecoördineerd door Jeroen, hoofd van ploeg Veiligheid, werden we in duo’s verspreid over het kampterrein om iedereen zijn of haar (eigen) bed in te krijgen. Samen met Jan belandde ik zo bij Lundea, waar we een korte tussenstop maakten bij de Britse gidsen van Sussex, die ons een lekkere tas thee en een koekje aanboden. Hun meisjes lagen allemaal al in hun bed; goed opgevoed zijn ze in Engeland in ieder geval. Bij de scouts en gidsen op het laatste terrein van Lundea was het iets rumoeriger. Enkele gidsen hadden tijdens de fuif ‘gescoord’ en dat moest uiteraard besproken worden (voor een overzicht kan u de Scouts & Kissrubriek raadplegen). Na een hoop gegiechel en gekir besloten de gidsen dan toch maar hun (eigen) bed op te zoeken. Ondertussen kwam het ‘stilte-uur’ (23u30) steeds dichterbij en dankzij de medewerking van de subkampstaf bleef het rumoer steeds binnen de perken. Op Somnius bijvoorbeeld ontmoetten we de Ieren die hun dertig deelnemers zonde veel moeite stil hielden, terwijl Sarah met de Catalanen overeen was gekomen dat zij zich nog even met hun leden konden afzonderen om tot rust te komen (iets wat hen normaal niet voor middernacht lukt). Ook op de andere subkampen viel de situatie mee, enige uitzondering waren de Thai en de Hong Kongers, die de

opmerkelijke gewoonte hebben om rond middernacht te gaan douchen. Naar de bar Vanaf toen (ongeveer 23u30) bleven we slechts met z’n vieren over om het kamp in de gaten te houden. En het kamp, daar behoort ook de medewerkerbar toe, waar we regelmatig de kans kregen om even uit te blazen. Tot 02u00, wanneer de bar sloot en nu ook enkele medewerkers en leiders werden verzocht om hun tenten op te zoeken. Dat ging zoals te verwachten bij de ene al wat vlotter dan bij de andere, maar na een half uurtje kon ook The Black Hole gaan slapen. Daarna werd de nachtdienst een uitputtingslag. Om 03u00, na een kleine snack, gingen we weer op pad. De inspanningen van de subkampstaf had z’n vruchten afgeworpen en heel JamBe sliep (en snurkte) vredig. Enkel op Lundea kwamen we Vincent tegen, die iets meer moeite had om het juiste bed te vinden. Verder bracht de nachtelijke wandeling niets dan rust en stilte. Onder begeleiding van Jan kregen we hoeken van het terrein te zien waar we nog niet waren geweest en kwamen we enkele opmerkelijke slapers tegen (buiten de tent, in de bomen,…). Schouderklopjes Nadien was het een kwestie van wakker te blijven in de kapel, tot de volgende wandeling. Die vond plaats om 5 uur, maar was hoogstens een formaliteit. Even de benen strekken (er was niemand wakker) en binnenspringen in het VVC, waar ze volop in de voorbereiding van het World Village zaten. En daarmee zat de nacht er op. Blijkbaar gaat de tijd best vlot vooruit als je op een prachtkamp als JamBe 2013 in goed gezelschap rondwandelt. Slopend was het wel: mijn respect voor ploeg Veiligheid (en de mensen van het VVC) is alleen maar toegenomen. Geef de mensen in de fluo vestjes dus gerust een schouderklopje als je ze nog eens tegenkomt (liefst niet ’s nachts).

The Girl Guides Association of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has impacted the lives of many young ladies in a positive way. They are able to achieve discipline despite obstacles while concurring fears and improving their overall character, building friendships that last a lifetime. It serves 1,162 members (as of 2003). Founded in 1914 by Reverend Cox, the girls-only organization became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1984. They will be celebrating 100 years of Guiding in 2014 with sponsor walks, rallies, festivals, sporting games and a number of other activities to ensure everyone is aware of Guiding in SVG. Currently the Girl Guides of SVG are the most active in the Caribbean , attending Regional camps every other year and International camps every year.

Impressions from around the World The World Village was a big success, with all participants showing off their cooking, dancing, singing and hugging skills. We did a quick tour of the site and got some enthusiastic reactions! Nadia, the group leader of the Ukrainian girl guides showed us her traditional clothing. “In Ukraine, the traditional clothes are white embroidered blouses with flowers. We also wear flowers in our hair. We call this ‘Vichivanka’. One of our girls is also painting ‘tattoos’ in the Cyrillic alphabet.” We continued our tour and met with Jordi from Spain. “We are from a town in Andalucía, in the south of Spain. Today we made Salmorejo, which is kind of like Gazpacho, but instead of drinking it, you eat it. It is made out of tomatoes, olive oil, garlic and bread, all mixed together. We add ham and cheese.” After trying it -it tasted great- I asked about the dance they were doing. “It is called Sevillanas and is a typical dance for festivities in the greater Seville region.” It looked like a very graceful dance and it was impressive to see the scouts singing the song while dancing at the same time. After our tour we had a chance to speak with Christophe Lambrechts, chief scout of Scouts & Gidsen Vlaanderen. He paid a visit to the Mass game and the World Village to see and meet the scouts of JamBe 2013. ”I think the best word to describe JamBe 2013 is ‘lively’. The atmosphere here is amazing and everyone is full of energy.” What were the things that stood out for him? “Well, I was surprised by the Irish Guinness cake, I didn’t know that existed.” And how did he feel about ‘his’ Flemish scouts? “Proud! I am always so proud of what scouts can achieve. Seeing all of our scouts discover new cultures and other scouts from around the world.”

LET’S GO WILD – ACTION IN SOUTING Ce samedi, le sous-camp Chronos vivait la journée Let’s Go Wild pour la dernière fois. Nous avons profité de cette journée plutôt sportive pour interroger les scouts et leurs animateurs sur l’action dans le scoutisme. Interviews au coeur de l’action ! Astrid (22) et Sander (18), Belgique Vivez-vous des activités de ce genre dans votre groupe ? Oui. Au début de l’année, pour les inscriptions, nous construisons un grand pont en woodcraft que les nouveaux inscrits et leurs parents doivent passer. C’est amusant, parce qu’il y a toujours des parents ‘Die Hard’, alors que d’autres sont plus portés sur le développement de stratégies et le calcul des risques. Deux approches complémentaires ! Qu’est-ce que ces activités apportent aux scouts ? Une bonne cohésion dans l’équipe et la confiance (en soi et dans son équipe). Ce sont des activités qu’on ne réaliserait jamais seuls ! En plus, là nous jouons avec des scouts d’autres pays, donc on rencontre plein de gens.

Ce sont deux qualités qu’on développe tant au rugby que chez les scouts. En revanche, il n’y a qu’une manière de jouer du rugby : les règles du jeu, le nombre de joueurs… Alors que chez les scouts, c’est sans doute un peu plus varié, de manière à permettre à chacun d’y trouver son compte. Chez les scouts, on fait des rencontres, on travaille en équipe, on fait des choses qu’on ne fait pas tous les jours, et tout ça nous apporte des compétences utiles pour la vie. Autant d’expériences utiles au développement des scouts !
