His Excellency the Governor General

MESSAGE FROM HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL THE MOST HON. SIR PATRICK ALLEN ON, GCMG, CD, KSt.J

The occasion of the Jamaica Civil Service Association’s (JCSA) 103rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) provides the opportunity to celebrate the indefatigable work of the Organization in upholding “the highest qualities of professional service to the nation, through the guarantee of a highly trained workforce of competent and committed persons whose legitimate interests are safeguarded and affirmed through membership in the organization.”

This year’s theme, ‘Persistent and Consistent, Advocating for the Worker: Moving from Surviving to Thriving’, has been aptly chosen. The Civil Service is more than a career. It is the highest demonstration of commitment to one’s country and is worthy of every recognition.

Since its inception in 1919, the Association has been a champion for the causes of gender- equal employment, improved socio-economic conditions and overall upward mobility of Government workers. It is a rich legacy that you must continue to build.

The past few years of the pandemic have impacted all facets of our country, including the functioning of the Civil Service. Despite its challenges, you have continued your persistent representation and advocacy for all your members. It is the unyielding commitment of public health workers, police officers, teachers and other critical service employees that have allowed Jamaica to continue to stand tall.

As the Organization continues to execute its Constitutional mandate, I remind you to embrace the exercise of good judgment, attention to detail and equity. I trust that at this AGM, you will showcase and highlight the best of the Association, while creating even greater opportunities for your members to continue to make a positive contributions to the Nation.
