ith the end of 2017, the renovation of each one of us, hopes, plans and desires for a better 2018 lies ahead. The calendar created by Julius Caesar in 46 B.C., to honor Janus, the god of beginnings still alive and kicking. Over 2,000 years later the entire world celebrated and welcomed the new year. 2017 was a challenging year for many of us with turmoil all over the planet. Year 2017 is similar to the year that I decided to move from Brazil to Miami, more than 20 years ago, a decision made during a trip to Barbados, the enchanted paradise island. Barbados, where the ocean turquoise color is more turquoise than anywhere else. Just three hours + from Miami, and we can find the perfect gateway to pleasure and beauty. This island has a special place in my heart. For me, Barbados is the number one destination in the Caribbean. And you, have you been there yet? The Washington DC editorial brings us the mighty city where difficult decisions take place. For the media, the US is now a divided nation between Republicans & Democrats?!! To pay a visit to Washington is to get access to the country’s history! Last year alone, that town received an astonishing 22 million visitors. elebrated Halloween as the Official Wine & Spirits Partner of The Fabulous Fund Fair Benefitting the Naked Heart Foundation and amfAR New York, NY October 29, 2017. Moët Hennessy, the Naked Heart Foundation and amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, joined forces for the first time to hold a magnificent Halloween edition of The Fabulous Fund Fair in New York City. he 24th annual amfAR Gala Cannes raised more than $20 million last night in support of amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, and its pursuit of a cure for HIV/AIDS. The star-studded black-tie event, held at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France, during the Cannes Film Festival, was presented by Harry Winston and Bold Films. Event Chairs in attendance included Jessica Chastain, Dustin, and Lisa Hoffman, Nicole Kidman, Diane Kruger, Eva Longoria, Carine Roitfeld, Harvey Weinstein, amfAR Chairman of the Board Kenneth Cole, amfAR Global Fundraising Chairman Milutin Gatsby, Len Blavatnik, and amfAR Trustee Vincent Roberti. VIP guests such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, Diana Ross, David Beckham, Dionne Warwick, Uma Thurman, Adrien Brody, Jean Paul Gaultier, Irina Shayk, Karolína Kurková, Bella Hadid, among many others. Event Chairs Nicole Kidman and Dustin Hoffman opened the evening by welcoming guests, noting that their presence “keeps the fight against AIDS in the global spotlight, reminding the world that we can and must end this deadly epidemic that has already claimed more than 35 million lives.” Eva Longoria after thanked the event’s sponsors introduced amfAR Chairman of the Board Kenneth Cole. He stressed that “ending AIDS is not a fantasy, it is a goal within our reach,” mentioned that in less than three years amFar had awarded grants totaling close to $40 million to support HIV cure-focused research. I
t is the perfect escape dream to a heavenly isle. Barbados is one of the destinations -preferred places on earth for American celebrities as well as for Europeans. Before the English colonization, Barbados was inhabited by the Carib and Arawak Native Americans in the 16th century and now is an Independent British Commonwealth nation. The official language is English and Bajan Creole, a local dialect also widely spoken. Barbados is a tiny island with a huge heart represented by its people and welcome smiles! Surrounded by the incredibly beautiful turquoise waters, a calm ocean, and the white sand, the island offers 5-star hotels like Sandy Lane, Hilton, and Marriott among others less expensive. Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados, is also a cruise-ship destination port. The main street carries the department store Cave Shepperd & Co, owned by the historical Duty-Free Caribbean Holdings, under Dufry from Switzerland since 1865. For such a small island there is so much surprising information about its past, including that Barbados has the first constructed synagogue “Nidhe Israel” founded in 1654. Celebrities in Paradise

he island is very familiar with celebrities visiting their unique paradise with plenty of lush landscapes, world-class beaches and total privacy to the ones that choose Barbados as the scenario for intimate moments. BY THE YEAR OF 1650, BARBADOS WAS THE NUMBER ONE SUGAR PRODUCER IN THE WORLD. THIS PRIVILEGED POSITION WAS ONLY POSSIBLE DUE TO THE FORCED LABOR OF SLAVES.
According to the 2016 census, Barbados has a population of 284,996 in an area of only 431 square kilometers. After its independence in 1996, Barbados has conquered a new space among the other Caribbean islands. The determination of its people to make their mark in the world has been proven over and over again. An excellent example of this is the world reknown singer, Rihanna. Rihanna and grew up on Barbados but soon became a bright star in the international music industry. A challenging task. The Pop Star now has a street named after her -- Rihanna Drive in the St. Michael area, a beautiful community in Barbados with luxury real estate and the Sandy Lane Hotel. From the 1640s a Rum named “Kill-devil”

fter the 17th century, the island quickly switched from the production of cotton and tobacco to sugar and cane. By then Barbados witnessed a fantastic economic transformation. Introduced by the expatriate Jewish community, the cultivation of sugar cane opened the door for the production of the liquor named at the time as Kill-devil. Barbados was the “arrival” island for refugees from Europe, especially those from the Netherlands. With more than 500 windmills installed, soon the island surpassed all the other Caribbean European island colonies producing sugar cane. By 1650, Barbados was the number one sugar producer in the world, but this position was only possible due to the forced labor of slaves. Because of its production of sugar, why Barbados become the birthplace of rum, previously named as Kill-devil. If you go to Barbados, it is important to visit Mount Gay, the Distillery founded in 1703. The liquor produced by Mont Gay is considered one of the best rums in the world. The history of Barbados is intrinsically linked to this beverage.

Exploring Barbados
W
ith its rich mixed culture, Barbados is considered one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. A crystal clear turquoise ocean indeed is the perfect invitation of avid tourists to do absolutely nothing but relax and enjoy the many historical places such as Gun Hill Station, George Washington House or the Parliament Buildings in Bridgetown. In the year of 1751, George Washington then only 19 years old, decided to visit Barbados with his half-brother Lawrence. The future first US President spent two entire months on the island. A historical 18th Century Plantation house located in the historic area of Garrison, the George Washington House is today under the protection of UNESCO World Heritage. Barbados is the first and only place outside the United States visited by George Washington. The question is; why would Washington at 19 years decide to visit this island? What aroused his curiosity? You may discover the reason by visiting The George Washington House opened to the general public in January of 2007.

Measuring almost six meters in length, the Vision MercedesMaybach 6 Cabriolet incorporates the classic proportions of art deco design with its extremely long bonnet and puristic, flowing lines, and at the same time completely reinterprets these aesthetic principles. The contrast between the dark blue paintwork in “nautical blue metallic” and the chrome highlights increases the fascinating relationship between the defined areas with organically shaped wings and the chrome trim elements. The extended, round “boat tail” format of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet’s rear recalls a luxury yacht and tail lights which emphasize the width of the vehicle integrated into its outer edges. 360° open-air luxury lounge The generous, flowing design idiom brings exterior and interior together in a holistic design. The flow of the areas
from the rear into the interior gives rise to a typical yacht feeling. A light wing flows in a curve across the door trim and the center tunnel into the seating landscape, creating a 360° open-air luxury lounge. Above the 360° luxury lounge, the display strip links doors, dashboard and the rear area. All display elements integrated into the continuous glass trim part. By way of contrast, classic round dials positioned prominently. Luxury experience of the highest order In addition to the flowing contours, the material composition produces a luxury experience of the highest order. The brand’s
hallmark authentic materials and colors are used, such as rose gold on the trim elements, or the surfaces which come into contact with the skin, featuring a rich, quilted crystal white Nappa leather finish. In this luxury technique, familiar with other things from Chesterfield furniture, the leather is put into folds in a diamond pattern and secured to the frame with buttons. The futuristic interpretation of traditional seat upholstery In the case of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet, this traditional seat upholstery boasts a futuristic interpretation: each button of the quilting depicts a delicate Mercedes star, backlit in blue. The open-pore wood floor with inlaid aluminum underscores the lounge sensation and the connection to yachting. estas 11th Hour Racing and Dongfeng Race Team traded blows throughout the first half of the Cape Town In-Port Race course on Friday afternoon, before the Chinese-French team grabbed the lead midway through the race and stretched away for their first win in the series. The victory vaults skipper Charles Caudrelier’s team to second place on the leaderboard for the In-Port Race Series, just behind MAPFRE who retained the overall lead with a fightback second place finish on Friday. “The team did a fantastic job, very nice boat handling and good speed, so well done to the full team,” Caudrelier said after the race. “Our start was not fantastic, but after that we made a good call to tack a bit

earlier and put pressure on Vestas and then we found some good speed. That was a key factor.” Conditions were spectacular on the waters off Cape Town, with wind near 20 knots, under bright, sunny skies. Boat handling was at a premium in the fresh conditions and on the first two laps of the course, there were several very close crosses as the boats approached the turning gates. Near the end of the second run, Vestas 11th Hour Racing were sailing on an awkward wind angle to the mark and had difficulty furling their big A3 downwind sail in preparation for the rounding. It didn’t hurt them immediately but when they next tried to deploy the sail at the final top mark, it wouldn’t fully unfurl, and the team was very slow for most of the final run. “We started well,” said navigator Simon Fisher. “At the second top mark Dongfeng did a great job, pushing us to

the less favoured side, which pushed us back into the fleet, which put pressure on the downwind drop, which meant we didn’t have a great furl, and that hurt us on the last run. It’s just a great example of how things can snowball.” The mistake cost the team two places, as both MAPFRE and team AkzoNobel raced past on the run to the finish. The second place finish represented a tremendous comeback for MAPFRE who were forced into a penalty turn just before the start, leaving them them the last to get across the line. But the Spanish team kept pushing its way up the fleet, finally forcing team AkzoNobel away with an aggressive luff near the final top mark, setting the table for the pass of Vestas 11th Hour Racing on the final run. Further back, Brunel and Scallywag engaged in a luffing match early on the first run. The Umpires penalised Scallywag for an infraction and following the penalty turn, David Witt’s team were trailing the fleet. At the finish, a hard-charging Brunel nearly stole a place from Turn the Tide on Plastic. But Dee Caffari’s team, who had a very strong start to the race, held on for fifth place. n
