Music - REJJIE SNOW

Snow, Snow, Snow. Introducing:

Words by Jade Lambourne

R

20 year old Irish rapper, Rejjie Snow is taking on the British Rap scene by storm.

ejjie Snow‘s often compared to the likes of Tyler the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt, but the 20-year-old affirms his originality with blazing songs touching on everything from albinism to the Cartoon Network. “You see lyrical content is very important to me but not important in the sense of portraying a message… It’s more the emotional side and how you feel when you listen to it. It’s not supposed to guide people on how to live or tell people what to do, it’s just like ‘listen to this shit and feel something from it’, you know?”.

It seems Rejjie is bringing something fresh to the whole rap scene. “I don’t talk about my personal life because no one would really care. It’s more about fantasies and giving yourself the persona of something else… Just creating a world; making everything imaginary. I used to be quite shy but rapping gives me confidence, it makes me appreciate myself more”.

Snow’s real name - Alex Butler has had growing success with over 22,000 Twitter followers.

INTRODUCING

“I’m just changing my horizon”

Rejjie has also had an influence on youth fashion in recent months. The current trends in underground culture are heavily streetwear infulenced; think Stussy, Supreme and Nike. Along with Rejjie’s fellow rapper friend Yung Lean, they are bringing 90s vibes back with Fila & North Face everything and bucket hats.

Raised in Dublin, Ireland; the artist who moved to Florida on a football scholarship. But returned to Ireland to focus on his music career, already has a brimming CV. Performing with such artists as King Krule, Joey Bada$$, MF Doom and the mighty Kendrick Lamar. He is now signed to Elton John’s label, Rocket Music Entertainement. His back-to-basics sound and raw, guttural scowl are at long last proving Irish hip hop to be a non-laughable proposition. You try and name a better Irish rap than Snow’s aggressive spits on ‘Lost in Empathy’.

New Generation - Rejjie Snow

Trend Watch - Leather

The talented rapper names Dr Dre, Nas and A Tribe Called Quest as his main inspirations. “Music wise mostly RnB and hip hop are the themese that infulence me the most. Around the house my dad would just play normal shit like Montell Jordan and all that weird shit. RnB and D’Angelo. I don’t know, I just feel I’ve always kind of had an ear for it, you know”.

We predict HUGE things for this young, creative artist and can’t wait for some new material. “Living in Dublin, you have to kind of learn things on your own,” he says. “I’m just changing my horizon... I can do something mad with Rejjie Snow, but with me – I’m shy as shit, you know what I’m saying?”. Here at FC Edit we like to (try) and keep our finger on the pulse and our first issue is all about that. We want to introduce the new generation of talents that you will soon be seeing EVERYWHERE.

Fashion - Interview

ALEXA CHUNG Shares her top style and beauty secerts.

The on trend fashion icon tells FC Edit readers her top tips. Ranging from her wardrobe must haves to missing the NU Rave scene.

It seems there is not a lot Miss Chung can’t do as the presenter/ journalist/ model/ author/ desinger/ editor comes into HQ for a chat and sneak peak at our new collection. “I am obessessed with all of this leather” she utters running her hands through the rail of our new AW collectioin. “You see I’m scared of bright colours” admits Alexa. Do you have a style philosophy? ‘Stick to the classics, and you can’t ever go wrong. I see old ladies on the street who have fabulous style and realise it’s because they are probably wearing really classic items that they’ve had for years and years. I think if you find something that suits you, you should just stick to it.’ What fashion item can you not live without? “A navy blue jumper is potentially the most boring item anyone could design, and yet it’s my most important possession. The one I own belongs to an ex-boyfriend, and before to cheer me up. It worked.

21.

shops caught on and made “boyfriendfit jeans” and “boyfriend sweaters,” everyone was happily throwing on their actual boyfriend’s belongings to keep warm. I have never traveled without it and it has rescued me from many mornings of outfit panic. Once when I was heartbroken a male friend of mine sent me his navy cashmere jumper to wear as a perpetual hug”. Do you make associations between music and fashion? ‘I’m indie through and through. I’ve always gone out with boys in bands. I designed a collection for Madewell two years ago, and the whole inspiration for that was girls backstage.

Maybe I’m pop sometimes. I think now there’s really no distinction between the categories. Back in the day it was more clear, but now everything is a bit wishy-washy because indie isn’t indie anymore, because it became popular. These days everyone just dresses like a hipster.’ One of our favourite things about Alexa is her constant link with music, and it is obvious in her style. “’ I mean I really really miss that whole Nu Rave scene. I was really torn, because I was friends with [Klaxons] and The Horrors. I would spend one night in a fluoro shirt and the next night in black and white. It was a very confusing time for me.”

Style - Alexa Love

WE

Alexa’s Street Style

How do you get the Alexa make up and hair look? “My look is pretty low maintenance, I have a great team around me for hair and make-up and they have also taught me some great tricks over the years for when I’m doing my own. If I’m doing my hair myself, I just wash it and let it naturally dry. I’m actually quite good at doing hair; if I wear it up I usually do it myself. One of most used products is dry shampoo and L’Oréal Professionnel Fresh Dust, £10.60, is good for a quick fix if I’m going out straight after filming my music show”.

mean, you’ve got all of my favourite styles, colours and trends in one whole great collection. I completely adore it! The new collection is in stores September 26th Alexa Chung’s book ‘IT’ is avaiable in stores nationwide.

Any beauty regimes you follow? “I’m rubbish – I’m really not good at my beauty regimes! I use whatever’s available to me. Dove soap is good or I use a Swedish cleanser made of egg whites that you can buy for five bucks in the States.

Shirt £39.99 Leather Skirt £79.99 Shoes - Alexa’s own

Thoughts on our new collection then Alexa? “Oh my gosh, can I just pack it all up and take it home with me? I
