Jada Whitted Creative Writing/ Fall 2013 Ms. Smith 1. 13.14.

Reflection Paper: My experience in Creative Writing 1 has had it ups and downs I can honestly. I have learned a lot about writing that really can help me in the future and overcame a few things that I needed to get better at. I used to think that I was the worst when it came to writing and reading poems because they were boring and never really attracted my attention but in this class, Ms. Smith taught me that poetry isn’t really as bad as it really seems, from breaking it down to find the true meanings of the poem. Honestly, I think I have improved as writer I really don’t know if I grown or not only time can tell. Adding on to this, I think I improved on thinking more about how I write things than just putting something simple and vague and calling it a day, it’s better to just expand it and think more on it and being more creative to make the paper better than the starting. Also, I think another one of my growths was me and my fear of public speaking. I hate it with a passion but for some reason, I’ve been getting a little better about it and not being so afraid anymore. I guess I can honestly say that Creative Writing 1 made me some what outgoing and more creative to thinking outside the box on things. Weaknesses that I have would be grammar and punctuation when it comes to my writing, writing vague things, and way more stuff I know but just don’t what categories you would put those in. Some valuable lessons that I have been taught is something that I would only hear Ms. Smith say which was “Stop Biscuiting”, she would always say when students in the class when it came to presenting work. If I had to take anything back it would be my procrastination and slacking off in this class. This class was not difficult at all so I feel like I could put in more effort than I actually instead of just a little bit and not giving my all like I was required to. If I would have never procastinated or anything I think I would have a great chance of making better grades than the ones I made. I’ve learned to not sit around and think that work that I am required is just going to get done on it’s on, I have to my work with great effort and turn it on time and make the grades that I need to help me pass. Overall I think that in the future with me actually taking this course will help me better in my English and History classes a lot. Even though I second guessed about taking this class I am actually glad I did.

Partner Poem: Exempt

Haiku Sequence:

Chirp The birds are chirping Highly soaring through the sky With fast moving winds Bright The sun brightly shines The thoughts running through my mind Casting dark shadows Flowers Pink flowers blooming Pedals fall slowly to ground Falling gently down

Limerick Poem: There was a lady who bakes Cupcakes, cookies even cakes She sold her goods to the people up west They always told her they were the best There was no doubt about it the lady could back!

MultiMeaning Poem: The Big Day Tap, tap, then leaps The little girls fastly move their feet Messing up would be bad so they tried their best They wanted to make everyone proud and smile This was their last moment so everything had to be perfect

Observation Poem: The Noise The squeaking noise from the ceiling catches my attention Along with voices echoing, did I mention The halls at the moment very calm; typically they’re loud, crowded, and alarmed The fresh air is nice outside I hear buzzing and chirping as I walk by As you see the noise never stops at Orange High

Color Poem: Orange Orange is my favorite, it makes me think of fire I like when I wear the color because it makes me look brighter Orange makes me smile It makes me feel calm and happy Orange also reminds me of my great grandpa (Pooh Pooh) who passed, it was his favorite color too.

Deaf/Blind Piece Blind I feel as if I am trapped with the blindfold over It’s like I’m being tortured for something bad or being taken away from everything I sit on the hard concrete bricks with others around me Voices from people talking are around me too The sun brightly beams down on me

Deaf I am deaf I cannot hear anything at all People who try to interact with have to use signs or we won’t be able to communicate I see people standing around me by all the trees

Short Story (Revised)

June was finally here and it was a nice summer day in Bubble Village. Suzie loved summer, it was her favorite time of the year. It was always the best to go to the village river bank and spend the day. It was where she spent some of her spare time when she wasn’t at school. Suzie had just moved to the city to start her freshman year and she really didn’t meet anyone other than her new roommate, Kate that she really liked. Suzie found herself spending most of her time going to the river bank enjoying to the nature scenery. As Suzie walked down the path making her down to the bank, she recognized a tall boy coming towards her, not knowing what to do or how to react Suzie tried to sit there and look calm. The boy was wearing a long sleeved plaid shirt with jeans and cowboy boots carrying his shotgun in his hand. “Hey are you okay?” the boy said to Suzie. So many thoughts ran through Susie's head as the boy stood there. “Hi yes I’m fine thanks for asking.” The boy stands look in Susie’s eyes grinning hard. “Haha no problem. Oh by the way my name is Robert” Robert says. Robert had more of a country side to him Suzie learned looking at the way he dressed.Suzie found him quite attractive the way Robert looked even though her father, John always wanted to marry some rich guy from a big city. The last thing on Suzie’s mind was what her father thought she wanted to make things with this new guy so she on with the flow. “ Nice to meet you Robert, I’m Suzie” Suzie says. “So what brings you here to Bubble Village?” Robert says. “I just recently moved here in the late spring to prepare to start school but it’s not going quite well with getting used to being around people I know and a new place to live.” Suzie says. Robert gives Susie a puzzled look then says “That’s not usually for new people here in Bubble Village because with all the friendly people around we usually welcome them with open arms. Maybe we could go out for lunch one day this week.” Right then Susie had gotten an exciting feeling inside and couldn’t do nothing but smile, she couldn’t believe that not only she had met a new friend other than her

new roommate finally but she also was being asked on a date also. As she hands over a slip of paper with her number inside she quickly says “That’ll be great. Here’s my number inside so you can call and tell me the time and place. I have to go before my roommate gets worried about me being out too late.” Unexpectedly, Robert and Susie hugged. Susie tried to walk away from Robert as calm as she could be but she control her happy feelings inside. From that day, Robert and Susie became good friends eventually from going on a couple of dates together. Susie started to develop strong feelings for Robert after a few months of knowing each other, she didn’t know if it was the right time to tell Robert because things could fastly end between them or maybe if she told Robert he might have felt the same way to and things could lead them to being more than good friends. Another thing that kept Susie from expressing her feelings about Robert was her parents especially her daddy. Susie’s family was more of wealthy family and always wanted their daughter to be with a nice rich man and go live off somewhere in a grand house in the city. After meeting Robert, Susie thought that he was the perfect guy for her but she knew couldn’t say nothing about him to her parents so she could stay on good terms with Robert. Things went wrong too fast for Susie to even control Susie’s father made Susie move back home since her father thought he had met the perfect wealthy man for Susie to marry. Susie couldn’t stop her daddy from his desire of the man that he thought she should marry. A month later Suzie had gotten married to a man named Michael Petters. They had an extravagant wedding in the garden of a big mansion and they went on a honeymoon to an island. The couple had then moved into a new home near where Michael's parents lived, it was neighborhood where mostly the wealthy people lived. Susie was now pregnant with their first child after three years of marriage. Their marriage was not going good at all, Michael had become very abusive to Susie and the couple would have frequent arguments and Susie was always depressed. Susie wished she could live a happy life with the one person who made her happy, Robert

but that all changed suddenly. Susie didn’t have a job, wasn’t in school anymore and still didn’t have any friends; once Susie had got married to Michael he thought that she should become a housewife. Susie was always miserable at home being alone and always having Robert on her mind, she wanted things to change about her life. It was a rainy cold day in the city of Jansport. Of course Susie was home alone doing housework or nothing at all during the day and Michael was at his job as a head chef in a fancy restaurant called Webster’s Kitchen. Ding donggggg! the doorbell rings loudly. Susie quickly rushed to the door to see who was there. As she opened the door, there stood in the heavy rain, her husband Michael. “Hi sweetheart you’re home finally. How was your day at work?” Susie says, trying to sound happy but she really wasn’t. “Work was fine, didn’t have not as much service as we usually do. I’m glad to see you got some work done around the house today.” Michael responds in stern voice giving Susie an unusual. “.....That’s good” Susie says as she slowly walks backwards with an anxious look on her face. Robert then walks away with a sneaky smirk on his face towards the living room. “Something wasn’t right just by that look he gave me” Susie thought to herself as she sat at the kitchen table. A few moments later, the house got really quiet, so quiet you could hear when a pen drops Susie got worried and started to wonder what Michael had been up to. She couldn’t walk but so fast with her pregnant belly so she walked slowly down the hall and saw that their bedroom was really dark. Continuing walking down the hallway she could see her husband dressed in all black coming towards with a red rose in one hand and the other hand was hidden behind his back. “Crea Kkkkkkkkkk” the floor loudly sounds as Michael walks fastly to Susie giving a sneaky grin with evil look on his hand. Susie then knew that he was about to hit her and wanted to get away as fast she could but it was going to be hard especially since she was 6 months pregnant. “Stop! You’re hurting me Michael” Susie screams as Michael grabbed her arm with a strong grip. “Shut up woman! Don’t you dare think about

running away or this will not end good.” Michael says in loud stern voice. In the reflection of the mirror Susie could see that in the hidden hand behind Michael's back that he was holding a knife, right then she knew she had to get away to save her and her baby’s life. Susie turn towards the opposite direction to the end of the hallway then starts to pull away her hardest away from Michael as tears flowed down her face fast. “You’re crazy let me go!” Susie screams. Michael acted if he didn’t her and suddenly pulled the knife from behind his back. “Ahhhhhhh” Susie screams as she felt the knife being stabbed in her back slowly falling to her knees. Michael stood there with a blank look on his face and then walked out the house leaving Susie there laying on the floor seeing Susie laying there in great pain while pregnant with his child didn’t even matter so he did nothing to help her or even called for help. Hours later, Susie was found there by her neighbor still lying in the floor in a large puddle of blood. Thankfully Susie finally made it to the hospital still alive but her baby inside had died it was too late. Michael didn’t make it very far, he was put in jail for five years and Susie had to move back home with her mom. Susie’s dad had passed from a tragic heart attack about a year after Susie was married. Life wasn’t the same anymore.

Scary Story (Revised) “Finally the last box!” Sheldon sighed as he walked upstairs to his new room. Sheldon was having iffy about this new house that him and his parents were moving into. The exterior of the house looked kind of spooky and strange and the interior reminded of a haunted house. As he approached his new room with his last box to unpack, he saw one girl with a white dress sitting in a swing and the other girl had a white dress on pushing the other in the swing, outside near his backyard of his window. Anxiously walking over to the window to get a better view of what had caught his attention outside, Sheldon saw that the girls were walking away laughing while looking up at the window at Sheldon and then finally disappeared. Sheldon stood in shock after what he had just seen not knowing if he should just stay in

the house, pretending like it was all in his imagination or go look outside and investigate more. “Ugh I guess I'll just unpack before Mom comes up here and fusses about it” Sheldon says looking over at the large load of boxes. It had been a long day of cleaning, unpacking, and weird things already happening in the new house for Sheldon and his family, they were all worn out and ready to be done, eat dinner then finally just rest. Sheldon was still in shock but was trying his hardest to forget about what had happened. .</p><p class="western" style="marginleft: 0.49in; marginbottom: 0in; lineheight: 200%">  </p> .</p><p class="western" style="marginleft: 0.49in; marginbottom: 0in; lineheight: 200%">  </p> .</p><p class="western" style="marginleft: 0.49in; marginbottom: 0in; lineheight: 200%">  </p> .</p><p class="western" style="marginleft: 0.49in; marginbottom: 0in; lineheight: 200%">  </p> .</p><p class="western" style="marginleft: 0.49in; marginbottom: 0in; lineheight: 200%">  </p> .</p><p class="western" style="marginleft: 0.49in; marginbottom: 0in; lineheight: 200%">  </p> .</p><p class="western" style="marginleft: 0.49in; marginbottom: 0in; lineheight: 200%">  </p> .</p><p class="western" style="marginleft: 0.49in; marginbottom: 0in; lineheight: 200%">  </p> v.</p><p class="western" style="marginleft: 0.49in; marginbottom: 0in; lineheight:

Dead Celebrities Piece I had a dream I stood tall and proud for it as a grown man Living like this was full of angry revenges from people who were against I wanted everything to come to peace It could be so simple But they didn’t want to see me this so they tried to break me down to my lows

That one dream is all I wanted I wanted for everyone It could have been so simple When all the hate came towards I would still be standing there smiling and still spreading love Free at last Free at last

Children’s Book

Writing Prompt A Fresh Start It was Sadie’s first day of kindergarten and she was very nervous. Today would be a fresh start for her to experience being away from her mommy and daddy but now instead she would be in a classroom full of strangers and having to make friends. So many thoughts ran through Sadie’s head that whole morning from stuff like what she should wear to what she would say when she had to introduce herself to her new teacher and the class. Sadie’s parents were so excited to see their daughter going to kindergarten and making new friends although they knew it would be a scary day for Sadie because she would be really nervous and anxious about not having them to be with her. “Mom, I need you.” Sadie yells to her mother down at the kitchen making daily morning breakfast. “I’ll be right there Sadie” her mother responds. As her mother walks up the stairs, Sadie quickly goes to stand by the mirror looking at herself in the new outfit that her and her mother went shopping just for this special. As the door opened Sadie saw in the mirror reflection her mother and father standing there smiling. “You look adorable and the dress fits just perfect!” Sadie’s mother says in a touching voice as she looked at Sadie. Sadie’s mother walked over to Sadie and stood behind with a look of amazement. “I think you already to start your fresh start, don’t you think?” Sadie’s mother says. “As ready as I’m going to be.” Sadie says in a uneasy, shaking voice putting her head down. “You’re going to be just fine, just relax” Sadie’s mother responds. Sadie’s long brown curly hair flowed gracefully down her back as her mother brushed it before adding a bow at the top of her head so it could match her dress. Sadie’s dress was her favorite color yellow with white polka dots going all over, the dress fit perfectly flowing all the way down to just her knees puffed out like a tutu just how she liked. To top it all off, Sadie wore her silver sparkling baby doll shoes that she liked to wear because it made her think that she was a princess like Cinderella. “I think I’m ready for the first day Mom.” Sadie says with a sigh and walked out the room. “You’re going to be just fine remember that sweetie. Let’s take a picture before we head out.

Letter To Your Future Grandchild Dear Future Grandchild, This is your grandmother. I just want to let you know that I am very excited and ready for you to come into this world, probably even more excited than your mommy and daddy. I can imagine me and you now spending a lot of time together, I’ll probably spoil you rotten as people say nowadays. Your grandfather and daddy will have you spending a lot of time watching football and basketball, that’s how they spend most of their free time together. But if you’re a girl like I’m hoping for you to be, your mommy and I will take you around to the park and shopping places..that’ll probably when you get a little bit older, we’ll just stick to your a million toys that you have! I really wonder who you will look like when you’re finally born. Either you’re going to my one and only grandchild that I will always love forever. I hope and pray that you arrive out of your mommy’s before Christmas in two more weeks. I have a special made stocking just for you hanging over the fireplace along with presents. If you come after that, you’ll be a special blessing and a good way to bring in the new year. I’m REALLY EXCITED FOR YOU TO BE BORN! Hurry, everyone is patiently waiting to meet you baby.

Love Always, Grandma
