CHAMBER AWARDS EMISSARIES AND DIPLOMATS There is an adage that states, “Those who can, do. Those who can do more, volunteer.” The Chamber Diplomats and Emissaries proved this saying to be true during the 2011-2012 year. By making numerous Chamber member contacts and attending monthly meetings, they devoted countless volunteer hours to The Chamber. On April 27, The Chamber hosted a recognition luncheon to honor members of both the Chamber Diplomats and Emissaries groups. Special awards were also presented to individuals that have risen above and exceeded the groups’ requirements. Lisa Cothran, Manager Membership Development, said “We wanted to take time to say thanks for all they did last year. Volunteers are the backbone of this organization. We could not accomplish the many things we do without them.”

Chamber Connection: What does your organization do that most people don’t know about? JDDC: That we work with businesses to help them be successful. We partner with others to help bring them success. Their success is downtown’s success. Chamber Connection: What are some recent successes your organization has experienced? JDDC: In 2011, there were 17 new business opened in downtown along with over $10 million in private/public investments. JDDC: The volunteers, the residents and the businesses are why JDDC is alive and well. Without their input, vision and hard work JDDC would not be where it is today.
