On Friday, December 17, 2010, Mrs. Shonette Charles and Mrs. Dawn Blagrove gathered a group of mothers at Bogart’s Restaurant in Raleigh, NC for a festive dessert reception full of holiday greetings. The attendees expressed a common need to reinforce ethnic pride, development, and leadership in their children through socialization and planned cultural and community service activities. With these objectives in mind, the mothers committed to bringing their families together to begin the process of starting a second Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated chapter in Wake County, North Carolina, and the City of Oaks Interest Group formed. Mothers left that evening with both vision and enthusiasm. On January 9, 2011, these like-minded women attended a meeting hosted by Mid-Atlantic Regional Director Pamela B. Askew and the Raleigh-Wake Chapter, in order to gain additional insights into the cultural and civic activities of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated and the chapter establishment process. After this meeting, additional mothers were recruited. Later that same month, 37 mothers met, elected officers, and decided to submit an application to Jack and Jill of America, Inc. under the name Capital City Interest Group. In March 2011, Capital City officially became recognized as a Provisional Group. 15 mothers attended the National Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Convention in Philadelphia, PA in July 2012. At this 75th anniversary occasion, Capital City showcased chapter activities with a provisional group display, featuring the theme “There’s No Place Like Capital City”. An impressive presentation utilizing the same theme was made to the convention delegates. Capital City was subsequently ratified by the delegates on July 27, 2012 as a provisional chapter. The hard work and dedication of 21 members has led to the chartering of the Capital City Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated on September 15, 2012. Their efforts continue to strengthen Capital City’s positive impact on the community and in the lives of the children of Wake County.

C CA AP PI IT TA AL L C CI IT TY Y C CO OT TI IL LL LI IO ON N ~~ B BE EA AU UT TI IL LL LI IO ON N The Cotillion~Beautillion is a program that embodies social grace, etiquette, community service, cultural activities, team building, and civic enrichment for young ladies and gentlemen from the N.C. Triangle area in grades 10 through 12. The essential component of the program is Leadership training for the participants. The Cotillion~Beautillion program affords the Capital City chapter of Jack and Jill the opportunity to provide Leadership training to teens throughout the Triangle and is the essential component of the program. We believe our training will inspire future leaders to reach back into their community to help others. Therefore, if Capital City can bring ten debs and beaux through the program and each of them positively impacts the lives of ten others, and then those ten impact the lives of ten more people, we will inspire an entire generation to impact their community and this world positively. The program's purpose was to bring back the southern tradition of cultivating leadership programs that enhance life skills, provide leadership workshops, etiquette training, engage in community service initiatives and ballroom dance lessons for young men and women. Capital City's program is unique because we are the only African-American organization in the Triangle area that offers this for young men and women in 10th through 12th grade. Capital City’s program concludes with the Rose & Sapphire Ball.

These objectives are achieved through a seven-month curriculum consisting of educational workshops, bonding activities, community service, and dance rehearsals. Masterpiece

When you look in the mirror, what do you see?

You. Beautiful, melodic, methodical, melanated muse… never to be confused. There is no dichotomy of passion and strength laced in our being for they are one.

The epitome, embodiment and very definition of brilliance all at the same time… no reason nor rhyme to your elegance and grace.

You are the keynotes of this juncture. The blissful signature of hope and peace. The trumpet songs and the anticipation of victory. The reminder that we are, and have always been ROYALTY.

You are the very Codex in our DNA and the promise of a better tomorrow, no matter what they say. The they…The non factors in a voiceless realm. The individuals that long for your purpose that overwhelms and gleams with timeless ancestral strength. The strength that left the maps to conquer nations. Don’t deviate from it. Don’t stop. Don’t hesitate in your glory. You own the tools to write your own story.

You. Beautiful, hypnotic, melodic, melanated muse. Imitations of you continue to fall short from the recipe that can not be duplicated. Just the essence of your skin

2 parts honey 3/4 gold, one cup of moon light, 3 cups of bold. The resilience is breathtaking. Be the representation of your already carefully painted picture. The picture in the mirror of you.
