Extend Search Online Videos

When you do the Extend Search, one option you can choose is to search in Online Videos. Selecting this will do your search automatically in several sites that have movies that you can watch online. The movies you can watch in their entirety will be generally be older, since these are mostly the ones in the public domain. But there are lots of scenes from all kinds of movies.

One of the best places to search for these movies is in Google Videos. There are several options you can choose once you do your search. You can limit the length of the movie to more than 20 minutes in length (20+ min.) to get the full length films. There are many full-length films here, along with scenes from many others.

Another major resource for movies is the Internet Archive. While many materials in other sites are not freely available, everything is in the Internet Archive and can be downloaded.

Make sure to select Moving Images in the drop-down list. When you search from this page, this selection is made automatically.

Another place to look for movies is in IMovies. When you search here, you will search Google, automatically limited to IMovies. In this search, in addition to the movie, you may see pages that discuss the movie.

Joost is still another site that has lots of films. This site also allows you to discuss and rate the movies.

Entertainment Magazine has several good movies available but is difficult to navigate. We search Google and limit to the site here, but as with IMovies, you may be looking at pages that discuss the movies.

LikeTelevision is also useful with many movies you can watch online. When you click on it, you will open a new window.

SurftheChannel is yet another website that allows you to watch streaming videos. Please note a few problems: 1) Internet Explorer does not work with this site 2) not all videos are viewable from Italy and 3) as with all such sites, you may run across variant languages or inferior versions. Still it’s worth a try!

Extend Search

For this example search of “Star Trek” you can select the type of video you wish to view, and then select more specific ones in the “Channel results.” When you select the video, you will go to the site where it is hosted.

You can also search for movie reviews using MRQE or the Movie Review Query Database. This only works with the title of the movie. If you search for actors, directors or other information, you will get zero. You may want to see more information on this in the Blog post.

Extend Search

To actually watch a movie, you may want to open it in a new window, or watch it in full-screen mode. Most viewers allow you to do this.
