A sonnet for katherine

Page 1

Dear Kate, I must speak to you and be bold I had just seen your speech and heard thy roar Though I’m dazed, for I’ve seen it all before And I must ask, does your speech truly hold? For I have seen your youth for all these years I’ve seen you as the buzzard’s curst wife Tis true “Thy husband is thy lord, thy life” Or twas it all lies, so thou shed no tears? Let us broach a topic thou has not faced For it is the men who made you this way Your freedom is mental, you let them slay Peremptory men, who keep you in place. Maybe you seem like a bird no one holds That does not mean your life isn’t controlled
