January 6, 2016 #PulseFeast was a huge success, reaching 21 million people, and having 141 events touching from ocean to ocean. Followers on the “home page take overs” of pulses.org and iyp2016. org could see the amazing amount of tweets, photos, videos, and messages that were shared globally to celebrate the International Year of Pulses. EVENTS AROUND THE WORLD In 36 countries, events ranged from a university meal in Chennai joined with a lecture on pulses, and children in Malawi were fed protein supplements made with pulses. A skating party with a Dutch Olympic medal winner in Amsterdam, as well as a roundtable discussion with IFPRI in New Delhi at the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS). As they were chiming in the International Year at the Gate Restaurant in London, those across the Atlantic geared up for new dishes in Brazil, Three Kings celebrations in Mexico City, lunch for one hundred in Pullman, and an event in Toronto that had pulses trending on twitter. On January 6, 2016, the world celebrated pulses by raising awareness of the health, nutrition and sustainability benefits of pulses for people, animals and the planet.


GPC’s IYP campaign has 35 National Committees who were active during Pulse Feast. Here are some of the great events around the world: AUSTRALIA

MALAWI

The Australian national committee celebrated Pulse Feast with a video and getting people to take the pulse pledge!

Pulse nutrients were served to children in Malawi to celebrate Pulse Feast.

BAHRAIN

NETHERLANDS

A luncheon with employees was held at Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co. (GPIC). GPIC will be featuring pulses in their company lunch every Wednesday!

The Netherlands national committee held a Pulse Feast in Amsterdam with an Ice Skating Clinic with Olypmic Speed Skater, Erben Wennemars and Warm Meal from Pulse Food Truck “Blije Boon”. Watch the Dutch video!

CHINA In celebration of the beginning of a new year and Pulse Feast, AGT Ingredients and Foods (Tianjin) Co. Ltd. celebrated Pulse Feast with a lunch! CCFNA arranged special photos of pulse dishes. View the photos here. COLOMBIA Aburra held a cooking event and company meal to celebrate Pulse Feast in Medellin, Colombia. DUBAI Hakan Foods served over 30 pulse dishes at the Istanbul Flower Restaurant in Dubai to celebrate pulses. Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of DMCC, attended. FRANCE A celebration of pulses took place in Dijon, France at the INRA offices. A conference took place in the morning, followed by pulse dishes in the canteen for lunch. INDIA PulseFeast involved a meal and a lecture on pulses at the Great Lakes Institute of Management Studies in Chennai, India, to celebrate pulses. Students enjoyed various pulse based dishes. IFPRI held a roundtable discussion at the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) in New Delhi.

PERU The Peruvian national committee celebrated Pulse Feast at the Marriott hotel in Lima, Peru. Watch the recipe video! SINGAPORE In a noteworthy moment, the Singapore Pulses Association Limited was inaugurated and formed on 6th Jan 2016 at the Singapore Cricket Club. All the traders came together and had a Pulse Feast to celebrate the occasion. View the photos! The second event by the Singapore Pulses Association celebrated IYP during Pongal festival by distributing pulses at the Perumal temple in Singapore. It was organised by Little India Shop owners association (LISHA). View the photos! TURKEY Mersin Commodity Exchange held a PulseFeast Lunch. A celebration was held at Fazuli, a Restaurant in Istanbul, with pulse dishes. UNITED KINGDOM The UK national committee held an event in London at The Gate restaurant. Watch their recipe video! UNITED STATES A Celebration of pulses took place in many States including Washington and Wisconsin. A competition took place at Chippewa Valley Bean, as well as a Potluck at Columbia Grain. On Twitter, the hashtags had a total reach of 21,849,172. #PulseFeast was trending globally after the massive Thunderclap, with a reach of 7,299,040 including the main UN twitter. #LovePulses showed up on the trending topics column on Twitter.com for over an hour, ranking 4th in Toronto, 8th in Canada, and 50th in Australia. #LovePulses 15.9 million #PulsePledge 4 million We were successful in engaging new communities related to cooking and the food-passionate, with hashtags being used on multiple social platforms, including Instagram, Vine, Facebook, and Twitter. The #PulseFeast hashtag had a reach on Instagram of 334,998. On Facebook we achieved a reach of 315,000 and accumulated 25,747 likes. We had excellent support from the UN, who were responsible for 6 million of the Thunderclap reach.

MUDRA Trending 10th on Twitter

QUIRKY & CUTE #PulseFeast caught the attention of many pulse lovers, including pets! We were excited to see the wide range of people and animals loving pulses. Images, music videos, and short clips were sent our way through Instagram, Twitter, Vine and Facebook.
