OVERVIEW Every year the NC Mountain State Fair showcases the best Western North Carolina has to offer. The mountain heritage and local talents on display at the fair are what makes it a unique and enjoyable event. It’s that delicate balance of sustaining the well-worn and treasured traditions of the fair and introducing a few fresh attractions that has made the NC Mountain State Fair a destination for families for the last 23 years.

F OO D For many, the fair means one thing: food. Lots and lots of food, often deep fried, on a stick or deep fried and on a stick. Fair-goers marvel each year at the various concoctions, returning to old favorites and trying new treats. Can you say fried pineapple on a stick? Or pork chop on a stick? Then there’s deepfried Milky Way bar on a stick, cheesecake on a stick, fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich on a stick and don’t forget about the fried pickle on a stick. It seems like everything at the fair just tastes better on a stick. E MP LO Y M E N T The NC Mountain State Fair has approximately 400 paid employees for the 10 day duration of the fair. E NT E R TA IN M E N T Over 100 acts perform at the fairs’ numerous free entertainment venues. ATT R A C T IO N S Drew Expositions features more than 40 carnival rides and numerous games of skill. Kiddyland offers 30+ carnival rides for pint-sized fair visitors. FAC ILIT Y IN F O R M AT IO N The WNC Agricultural Center is owned by the State of North Carolina and operated by the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The facility and the NC Mountain State Fair are completely self-supported and receive no appropriated tax funds for operational expenses. The NC Mountain State Fairs’ mission is to educate and involve our guests by providing a world-class agricultural showcase that is innovative, entertaining and fun.

Squalus provides a permanent home for these sea lions for the rest of their lives. K E N YA S AFAR I AC R OBAT S The Kenya Safari Acrobats offer a truly unique cultural experience. Marc, a lifelong musician, plays 9.1 instruments at once. Cavin, at age 13, plays guitar and 204’ of 2” PVC pipe in 33 tubes. The repertoire covers songs from the 60’s thru today with a mix of Rock, Country, Pop and more.

H I GH D I V E F I R E MAN S HO W The local Fire Department jumps into action when a frantic woman loses her baby who then appears on a 5 meter platform. Controlled chaos follows as they perform hilarious acrobatic comedy dives to rescue the baby. The whole family will be engaged as they watch the Olympic style dives from 3 platforms, the highest being 80 feet high.

C OME D Y H Y P N OT I S T Family Friendly Vegas Style Hypnosis Show. Watch in absolute disbelief as your friends, family, co-workers and students forget their names, become Elvis impersonators, or even jump up and down convinced that they have “won the lottery!” You’ll have the oppotunity to take part in the show and become an instant star or just back, relax and watch the fun unfold! The show is clean comedy and appropriate for all audiennces.

M OB I L E D AI RY C L AS SR O O M Teaching kids about the dairy industry is one our priorities. Our Mobile Dairy Classroom is a traveling milking parlor, featuring a live cow and an oral presentation. Our trained instructors will demonstrate how to milk a cow, describe how milk goes from the farm to the consumer, and then answer questions from the audience. This is an innovative program that brings the dairy experience directly to children.

FAIR FOOD

As autumn approaches, we look forward to ripe produce, shorter, cool days, and a classic western carolina tradition: the Mountain State Fair. The best part of the fair? For many, the fair means one thing: food. Lots and lots of food, often deep fried, on a stick or deep fried and on a stick. Fair-goers marvel each year at the various concoctions, returning to old favorites and trying new treats Talk about choices - check out the fair’s 30+ food stands located throughout the grounds. Can you say fried pineapple on a stick? Or pork chop on a stick? Then there’s deep-fried Milky Way bar on a stick, cheesecake on a stick, fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich on a stick and don’t forget about the fried pickle on a stick. It seems like everything at the fair just tastes better on a stick. 2017 V E ND O RS :
