Zetech University Celebrates Appointment of New Vice Chancellor

T

he Zetech University fraternity celebrated a milestone this April when the institution welcomed Professor Njenga Munene as the new Vice Chancellor. Appointed by the Zetech University Council, Prof. Njenga Munene took over from former VC Prof. Edwin Wamukoya who served the institution for six years, overseeing its transition to University status. Prof. Munene joined the institution from Egerton University where he served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration and Finance. A distinguished strategist, he also served as Chairman of various committees at the varsity and was a member of the Egerton University Management Board.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr. Mohammed Hassan, Chairman, Zetech University Council noted that the timely step is geared towards growing the university’s status and provision of quality education, “It is a great time to welcome a scholar of Prof Munene’s stature, a leader capable of steering Zetech University to greater heights. We are privileged to have him join us and we look forward to benefitting from his rich experience in higher education.” Mr. Mohammed noted.

A highly regarded scholar, Prof. Munene has a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Studies from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Science in Clinical Studies and a Bachelor of Veterinary Studies from the same University. He also pursued Advanced Studies in Protozoan Diseases at the Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (Japan).

Speaking during his unveiling ceremony at the University main campus, Prof. Munene stated that he aims to promote academic excellence, expand research investment and expertise as well as enhance service delivery during his tenure at Zetech. The Professor of Clinical Veterinary Medicine added that he is enthusi-

astic about working with a vibrant faculty and administrative team to enhance the students’ experience, “It is indeed an honour and privilege to join Zetech University and work with a team eager to reshape the provision of higher education in Kenya. In line with the Varsity’s five year strategic plan, my work will largely involve steering the team in: amplifying the capacity of our faculty, growing our student population, development of infrastructure and increasing our programme offerings, to meet the growing need for quality education in the country.” Prof Munene said. He added that these engagements are critical in the University’s journey towards attaining a University Charter. The Professor, who is a registered veterinary surgeon and a member of the Kenya Veterinary Association and the Kenya National Academy of Sciences, is widely travelled and published in refereed journals, with several University awards to his credit. Indeed, the institution’s fraternity is proud to work with the distinguished and inspirational Professor whose experience will be of great impact to the university as a whole.
