Print layer: for sharper design

This second PVC layer is applied to smooth out the stabilising glass fi bre beneath and to provide a fi nish that’s perfect for creating high-quality designs with high defi nition.

Impregnation layer: enhanced

Permeating through the glass fi bre in a process that’s similar to reinforced concrete, the impregnation layer adds dimensional stability.

Glass fibre: strength and stability

Glass fi bre brings strength and stability to the construction, giving the advantage that you don't need expansion gaps. Preventing contraction, expansion, cracking and curling, it ensures the fl oor stays where it should. Important when it comes to rapid temperature changes such as those experienced in holiday homes or recreational vehicles.

PVC backing: versatility in performance

This waterproof PVC backing layer is available in different specifi cations so we can tweak the performance of the fl oor: super-strong compactback, powerback for impact resistance or thermoback for better thermal insulation.

Textile backing: easier installation and more comfort

Last but certainly not least, the high quality textile backing is adding many advantages such as evening out irregularities in the subfl oor, saving time and costs, giving you a better acoustic and thermal insulation, and it can be installed semi-loose lay in even bigger areas than the standard vinyl fl ooring.

With the extra insulation coming from the textile backing, heat is better retained, and shocks are better absorbed, resulting in a sense of well-being when walking on the fl oor with your bare feet. Installation

Thanks to the extra textile layer, lumps and bumps in the sub fl oor are smoothed out, saving you time and costs in installation. The textile backed vinyl fl oor can be installed easily on an existing fl oor of tiles or planks. If your room is smaller than 40m² you don’t need to glue it down, saving you time and costs. The tear resistance is superior because of the extra textile layer, which is an extra advantage during installation. The textile layer also improves the dimensional stability, which ensures your fl oor will stay rock solid in every climate.

INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Within this visual installation guide, we demonstrate the semi-loose lay method, widely recognized as the most common and user-friendly DIY installation technique for vinyl flooring.

A simple utility knife and Xtrafl oor® Loose Lay Tape or regular doublesided tape is all you need.

Apply Xtrafl oor® Loose Lay Tape or appropriate double sided tape to the perimeter of the area. Leave the protective foil in position for the time being (install one wall at a time).

Line up the cut vinyl to your selected starting wall. The material is laid with the 5 cm over-cut running up the walls, ensuring that the pattern runs parallel to the wall.

Push the vinyl into the joint between the wall and fl oor with a straight edge and neatly cut off excess material around the edges of the room in small strips at a time, gradually working the material down to the fl oor keeping the blade tight against the skirting board.

Always hold the knife perpendicular to the fl oor to keep a straight cut fi nish. Ensure the product is free of tension (there may be 1 mm of give).

Avoid bubbles, compressions and tensions. To remove any bubbles, rubbing from the inside out should even out the fl oor.

Cleaning

Although vinyl fl ooring is easy to look after, it makes sense to make sure you care for it in the right way so that it can continue to give you years of style and comfort. The frequency of maintenance will depend on how busy your home is, the room where vinyl fl ooring is installed and on the outside conditions. For example, a hallway in winter will require more regular maintenance than a bathroom or bedroom in summer.

Our premium vinyl fl ooring is equip ped with wa PU lacquer, a specially developed, permanent coating that makes it easier to remove stains and marks with normal household cleaning methods. Our PU lacquer is a permanent part of vinyl fl ooring that will last your fl oor’s lifetime.

Ensuring your vinyl fl ooring is kept free from dirt and soil and that spills are immediately wiped away, is all that’s required to keep your vinyl fl ooring looking good.

The five keys to effective maintenance

1. Preventive measures

Keeping dirt off the vinyl fl ooring is easier and less expensive than removing it.

2. Vacuuming

Regular vacuuming is the most important part of a successful maintenance program.

3. Spill and spot cleaning

Spots are inevitable, but they don’t have to be permanent. Remove a spill quickly and there is less chance it will become a stain.

4. Periodic cleaning

Scheduled periodic cleaning helps the vinyl fl ooring retain appearance, and improves performance. Limited and/or ineffective periodic cleaning will inevitably lead to key 5 (deep cleaning).

5. Deep cleaning

Seasonality can infl uence the amount of cleaning required. Deep cleaning will remove heavy soiling from within the emboss structure and/or joints of the vinyl fl ooring.

Prevention is better than cure

There are different ways of protecting your vinyl fl ooring from possible damage caused by dirt or heavy objects.

At all external entrances you should use a suitable entrance mat that is regularly cleaned to remove dirt. Avoid rubber and latex-backed mats as these will permanently discolour vinyl fl ooring.

The feet of furniture should be fi tted with good quality felt pads and castor cups should be used under all castors. Felt pads will help to prevent scratches while castor cups will prevent pressure spots and prevent scratches or marks from rubber wheels. Avoid the use of rubber furniture feet as these will discolour your vinyl fl ooring.

A green factory

Our plants in Europe, located in Belgium, Luxembourg and Poland, provide employment to more than 450 people. The plant in Avelgem (Belgium) was built in 1997 according to the newest standards. In 2006, we took over a vinyl flooring production site in Wiltz (Luxembourg) and in 2022 we acquired Lentex Wykladziny, located in Lubliniec (Poland). In every plant and in every step of our production lines, we produce our vinyl flooring to the highest possible sustainable standards.

Smart use of resources

When producing our vinyl, we use all raw materials as consciously as possible:

• Our raw materials are delivered in bulk to avoid unnecessary packaging.

• A part of our energy consumption comes from our wind farm and solar panels.

• The water used in the process comes from the river Scheldt.

• The gelling drums recuperate the heat from the oven through a revolutionary heat recovery program.

• All post-industrial vinyl waste is recycled and reused for production purposes, with a circular economy in mind.

Towards circularity

By using internally recycled materials in the composition of our floors, we use fewer new raw materials and work towards our goal of a fully circular product. We try to reduce our environmental impact not only by producing efficiently, but also by the way we use materials. Today all vinyl flooring production waste, and most of the vinyl flooring coming in via our Recover Take Back Program is being recycled and reused in the backing of LVT products.

Our ‘RECOVER’ loop

In our ambition to achieve full circularity, waste reclamation, reuse and recycling are essential parts of our daily process. With our Recover Take Back Program, we try to maximise the amount of material that we recycle into new fl oors. The initiative gives us a way to collect off-cuts and used fl oors to be recycled or reused.

First of all, we take back postinstallation waste and post-consumer loose-lay vinyl fl ooring during installation and guarantee full recycling, often at our own

on-site recycling units. This way, we avoid additional transport between partners and our production sites. Secondly, we promote loose-lay installation, which is easier to remove and recycle. All recycled material is then used as raw material for new LVT.

Recover

1 Collecting

After installation or at end-of-life, old floors and off-cuts are collected into bags or on pallets. The customer contacts us to arrange collection.

2 Transport

Depending on what we’ve collected, we bring the waste back to our recycling centres, or send it to one of our partners.

3 Sorting

Before the collected materials are ready for recycling, they need to be sorted and cleaned before being shredded.

4 Recycling

The action or process of converting waste into reusable material. At our own recycling plant or external recycler. Used as raw material for new floorings. Material that’s too contaminated or not REACH compliant is turned into raw material for road furniture.

5 New floors

The recycled material is used as raw material for new LVT.

6 Other applications

Some post-consumer floors can’t be recycled into new flooring because they’re not REACH compliant. We then look for other applications, such as footwear, street furniture and outdoor tiles.

Aintree Race Course United Kingdom

At The Grand National Aintree, the most popular horse race in Britain, more than 3,000 m2 of wood and vinyl went directly from the racecourse to the landfi ll each year.

A huge waste after an event of only three days. Thanks to our Recover Take Back Program, all fl oor materials are now recycled, saving about 2.45 tonnes of CO2

Vaccination Centres Belgium

During the pandemic, the Belgian government set up vaccination centres in several public buildings, such as a 2,000 m² site in Bruges. To protect the original fl oors from damage during this temporary use, vinyl fl ooring was installed loose-lay so it could be easily reclaimed and recycled afterwards through the Recover Take Back Program.

Our ultimate goal? A fully circular product. Using an innovative recycling technology, we aim to make all layers of our vinyl flooring circular. We’re completely rethinking our products: how can we use recycled vinyl flooring in the development of new vinyl flooring? In order to do this, we’re taking a two-pronged approach, centred on the micronisation of vinyl flooring on the one hand and the recycling of plasticisers via innovative extraction technology on the other hand.
