FSNE - Two Generation College & Careers Pathway Program

ABOUT IUPUI’s Family, School and Neighborhood Engagement (FSNE) is a unit within the Office of Community Engagement. FSNE is introducing a new program for Tech High School students and their parents.

We utilize the concept of a two-generation approach to create opportunities for and address challenges experienced by children and their parents within the Martindale Brightwood neighborhood to impact career development and family income sustainability.

Challenges that impact quality of life include low educational attainment; low paying jobs that offer little mobility; as well as barriers to changing circumstances presented by limited finances, inadequate childcare, lack of transportation and inflexible class schedules, amongst other challenges.

TWO GENERATION COLLEGE AND CAREERS PATHWAYS PROGRAM

PROGRAMS Our Workforce Readiness programs support the unemployed and underemployed in their move to living wage career opportunities. Programs are designed for adults with limited income and provides community-based education and career development opportunities.

Classes are held in locations within the community such as community centers.

PATIENT ACCESS SPECIALIST A 30-hour fast-track program designed to prepare individuals for multiple entry level opportunities available in health care patient access areas.

PHARMACY TECH

MEDICAL CODING

A 40-hour program designed to prepare individuals to enter the pharmacy field in Indiana hospitals, home infusion pharmacies or community pharmacies as a technician.

DETAILS APPROACH

High School student participants must enroll in either an Arsenal Tech vocational training program or if 18 yrs. or older an FSNE program. Parents or guardians must enroll in an FSNE program that best aligns with their interests and strengths. FSNE enrollment fees are covered at 50%. If our programs do not align with participant interests, we will refer to one that does.

ELIGIBILITY

• Arsenal Tech High School parent/ guardian and student.

• Resident of Martindale Brightwood neighorhood.

• Unemployed, underemployed, laid off or looking for a career change.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS Designed to prepare students for challenging coding position in hospitals, clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, insurance companies and other settings where diagnostic and procedural data are coded in ICD-10 Coding and CPT for reimbursement purposes.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP Participants that choose this track will participate in a 10-week training program that leads them from the formulation of their business concept through completion of a business plan.

• Participate in at least one community center program.

• Enroll in one arsenal tech vocation or FSNE workforce readiness program (both caregiver and student).

• Have to be 18 yrs. old by the time of program completion.

• Meet mandatory program attendance requirements.
