BOUND POCKET

Bound pockets look like large versions of the bound buttonhole. They can also be referred to as a double welt pocket, jetted pocket or besom pockets. They can be finished with a button and loop for added decoration or function. Bound pockets can be constructed in different ways

FLAP POCKET

The flap pocket, as the name suggests, is made with a flap that covers the opening of the pocket. Flap pockets are part of suit jackets and the flap is usually rectangular but can also have a pointed or curved bottom. Some flap pockets have a buttonhole and button fastening. Double flap pockets are used in some styles of shirts and jackets but single is also popular

FRONT-HIP POCKET:

Front hip pockets are visibly positioned on the front of the garment connecting at the waist (or any horizontal seam on the front) and a side seam (or an appropriate vertical seam on the front/side of the garment). As opposed to an on-seam pocket that is comprised of two identical pocket bag pieces, a front hip pocket is made of two differently shaped pieces: a facing and a pocket piece.

INSEAM POCKET

Inseam pockets are the type of pockets that are hid den in a seam of your garment and are entirely enclosed by the outer layers, leaving no visible edges, stitching lines etc. They are primarily, though not exclusively, used on dresses, skirts and some pants.

JETTED POCKET

A jetted pocket is a slit in the facing of the jacket, with the pouch hanging inside. Now, the fact that the pocket is almost entirely unseen is exactly what makes jetted pockets so appropriate for the most formal suits and jackets.

PATCH POCKET

The patch pocket is the basic pocket. It can be a contrasting color or just top stitched to show it has some style. The patch pocket is seen on shirts and many other fashion styles. It is literally what its name suggests – a patch of fabric sewn to make a pocket. Using different techniques the basic patch pocket can become more decorative and appealing

SLASH POCKET

A pocket suspended on the wrong side of a garment from a finished slit on the right side that serves as its opening.

WELT POCKET

Welt pockets are either found on the front of a man’s tailored jacket, with a handkerchief tucked in to them, or on the reverse of a pair of jeans. They are bound, flat pockets that have finished with a welt or reinforced border along the edge of a piece of fabric.
