A large mass of material has been gathered so that it stands away from the body.

The width of women’s hips is deliberately exaggerated, as in the skirt below, which is narrower at the hem than at the hip.

Dirndl

a full, wide skirt with a tight waistband.Originally the skirt was long, but in more modern designs it is typically midlength. Traditionally, the skirt has a pocket on the side or in front, which is hidden under the apron.

Fishtail

This is a skirt of any length, from the knee and down. It is form-fitting through the torso and hips and “fishtails” out into a floor-length flare, adding the illusion of more curves.

A hobble skirt was a skirt with a narrow enough hem to significantly impede the wearer’s stride. It was called a “hobble skirt” for that very reason. it seemed to hobble any woman as she tried to walk around while wearing one.

Handkerchief skirt

Hobble skirt

It’s with asymmetric hems, created from fabric panels of different lengths sewn together, to create a hem with several corners that hang down as points. The hem resembles a handkerchief that is held by the centre so that its corners hang down as points.

Mini skirt

A miniskirt is a skirt with its hemline well above the knees, generally at mid-thigh level, normally no longer than 10 cm below the buttocks.

Midi Skirt

Kind of like the name suggests a midi skirt is a length that falls in between a mini skirt (short) and a maxi skirt (long). Falling midway down your calf between your knee and ankle.

It is a slim-fitting skirt with a straight, narrow cut. Generally the hem falls to, or is just below, the knee and is tailored for a close fit. It is named for its shape: long and slim like a pencil. It sometimes has a slit at the side or back.

Maxi Skirt

Pencil Skirt

These are skirts that stop at the ankle or at ground level. The hem is wide so that it is comfortable to walk in it and can be made up to any material. The width of the hem changes accordingly with the use, fabric and style

Kilt skirt

It is a type of knee-length non-bifurcated short dress with pleats at the back, originating in the traditional dress of Gaelic men. kilts are now made for casual wear in a variety of materials. But traditionally they are pleated only in the back, never in the front.
