BSc in Games Development Programme Description: This course takes a software engineering approach to games development, combining the technical aspects of games programming with the principles of project management, quality assurance and organisational management. While students focus on the development of games software, they are also given a general grounding in software engineering to give them the skills to work in all areas of the IT industry. Students are encouraged to build a portfolio of work and enter competitions that enhance their learning experience.
Course Structure: YEAR ONE: This is a common year across computing streams.
Students complete modules in game culture and appreciation, and in game design and programming. Students work in teams to create complete games. YEAR TWO: Students study the production of 2D and 3D content
using content production software, and create 2D sprite-based games. Students also study data structures and the algorithms used to support large scale complex games. Students are encouraged to form teams and enter games competitions.

YEAR THREE: The emphasis moves to 3D game programming and
game engine production. Students also study casual games for web/ mobile platforms. Students work in teams to complete a game to a professional standard in the game project module. Students also undertake a work placement.
Career Opportunities: Graduates work as games developers, web developers, software engineers, software developers or analysts. Students can also set up their own games company on campus in the Innovation Centre.
Further Study Opportunities: Graduates can progress to the Level 8 BSc (Hons) in Computing in Software Development, which includes advanced games programming options.
