Catedral: The Basilica Cathedral of Lima possesses an impressive façade – known as the ‘Door of Forgiveness’ – which mixes renaissance and plateresque styles. Casa Aliaga: This living museum was built in 1535 by a conquistador and has been lived in since then by his descendants – 17 genera ons so far – making it the oldest con nually inhabited house in the Americas. Bohemian Barranco: Lima’s most colorful and ar s c quarter offers a large variety of bars and restaurants, beau ful colonial houses and a rac ve cra s shops. Pachacamac: Visit this pre-Inca religious complex, which dates from the second century.

DAY BY DAY D1 LIMA - DINNER WITH ENTERTAINMENT On arrival in Lima, you receive assistance at the airport and are transferred to your selected hotel. In the eveni ng, dine at Dama Juana, a colorful and comfortable restaurant specializing in Peruvian creole food. Located in the district of Barranco, the restaurant boasts a spe cial atmosphere, which combines dances, music and flavors. Dama Juana offers a buffet dinner with live performances of Peru’s main regional dances. Return to and drop off at your hotel.

D3 TOUR OF BARRANCO, CHORRILLOS AND PACHACAMAC Pick-up from the hotel a er breakfast and transfer to the district of Barranco, a v ibrant and alterna ve corner of Lima where ar sts, musicians, writers and trendse ers are as much a part of the scene as the colorful architecture. Sample the bohemian air of the tree -lined avenues and squares of what is undoubtedly Lima’s most enchan ng neighborhood. Con nue to Chorrillos, a picturesque coastal district, and enjoy some me on the promenade to admire the views of the Pacific Ocean and Lima Bay. The final visit of the tour is to the Pachacamac archaeological complex, where the ruins of several preInca pyramids can be explored. Pachacamac dates from about the second century AD and is one of the most important pre-Inca religious centers along the coast. Return to and drop off at your hotel.

D2 CUSCO CITY TOUR AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES Morning free at leisure a er breakfast at the hotel. In the a ernoon, enjoy a guided tour of this charming city, which was the capital of the Inca Empire. The tour starts with a visit to Santo Domingo Convent, a large Renaissance-baroque complex, which was built over the Inca Qoricancha temple. It was one of the most important temples dedicated to the worship of the sun and its founda ons are s ll promin ent at the base of the convent. Ancient chronicles say the temple was covered in gold leaf and filled with golden representa ons of nature. Con nue to the Plaza de Armas to v isit the cathedral. It features an elaborate Renaissance façade and, like other important monuments in the city, was built over a demolished Inca temple. Head to the hills above Cusco to visit the remains of the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, whose imposing ramparts offer a stunning panoramic view of Cusco, the r uins of temple and amphitheater of Qenqo, where it is believed the Incas prac ced agricultural rituals. Finally, visitPuka Pukara (‘Red fortress’ in Qu echua) an Inca military complex located on a prominent hill. Its dwellings squares, bathrooms, aqueducts, walls and towers can s l l be appreciated. Return to and drop off at your hotel.

D3 CUSCO / MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO (115km – 4 hrs) A er breakfast at the hotel, you will be transfered to Poroy Sta on to board the train to Aguas Calientes, the nearest tow n to Machu Picchu. Following a scenic three-and-a-half-hour journey through drama c Andean landscapes, arrive at the sta on in Aguas Calientes. Here you board a coach for a 25 -minute ride to Machu Picchu itself. The ‘Lost City of the Incas’ had lain abandoned in the heavens f or four centuries un l American explorer Hiram Bingham happened upon it in 1911. Machu Picchu is believed to have been built in the 1450s by Inca emperor Pachacu as a holiday ret reat yet within a century the city would be abandoned following the Spanish conquest. The Spaniards never found it so it was spared the destruc on they wrought on other Inca sites. Instead, it was slowly swallowed up by the jungle and hidden from harm. A guided tour explains the origins behind this awe-inspiring citadel and the most prominent landmarks among the 200 or so buildings such as the monumental Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and the Burial Grounds. Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch at the famo us Café Inkaterra, a beau ful thatchedroof restaurant hemmed in between the railway and a mountain. Return to Cusco by train in the a ernoon.

D5 CUSCO – PISAC – OLLANTAYTAMBO – SACRED VALLEY (75km – 8 hrs) Savor breakfast at the hotel before depar ng for the Urubamba River valley, which is popularly known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The first stop is at Awana Kancha (‘weaving palace’ in Quechua) a farm-cum-zoo where endemic Andean camelids are bred. Learn about llamas, alpacas and vicuñas, which are friendly and domes cable, and which have wool with very strong fibers, which are used to weave ponchos, chullos, and oth er garments. The ‘Lost City of the Incas’ had lain abandoned in the heavens for four centuries un l American explorer Hiram Bingham happened upon it in 1911. Machu Picchu is believed to have been built in the 1450s by Inca emperor Pachacu as a holiday retreat yet within a century the city would be abandoned following the Spanish conquest. Stroll over to the Cat hedral, which was begun in the 16th century and took 80 years to build. Then visit the Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted in 1 535 by chief conquistador Francisco Pizarro to Jerónimo de Aliaga, one of his captains. Located on a ridge high in the Andes and in the shadow of the peaks of Mounts Chicon and Veronica, today’s Chinchero is as famed for its tranqui l beauty as for the lively markets held three days per week in the esplanade in front of a former Inca palace. Descend to the Sacred Valley towards the salt ponds of Maras, w here the salt ponds create a dazzling scene. The thousands of small ponds give work to and help feed many local families. During I nca mes, the salt deposits were an important economic center and of great value to the imperial economy. Con nue to the archaeological site of Moray. D2 LIMA – CUSCO (75 mins flight me) CITY TOUR AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES Pick-up a er breakfast and transfer from your hotel to Lima Airport to catch a flight to Cusco. A meet and greet service on arriv al is followed by transfer to your selected hotel. In the a ernoon, enjoy a guided tour of this charming city, which was the capital of the Inca Empire. The tour starts with a visit to Santo Domingo Convent, a large Renaissance-baroque complex, which was built over the Inca Qoricancha temple. It was one of the most important temples dedicated to the worship of the sun and its founda ons are s ll prominent at the base of the convent. Ancient chronicles say the temple was covered in gold leaf and filled with golden representa ons of nature. Con nue to the Plaza de Armas to visit the cathedral. It feature s an elaborate Renaissance façade and, like other important monuments in the city, was built over a demolished Inca temple. Head to the hills above Cusco to vi sit the remains of the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, whose imposing ramparts offer a stunning panoramic view of Cusco, the ruins of temple and amphitheater of Qenqo, where it is believed the Incas prac ced agricultural rituals. Finally, visit Puka Pukara (‘Red fortress’ in Quechua) an Inca military complex loc ated on a prominent hill. Its dwellings squares, bathrooms, aqueducts, walls and towers can s ll be appreciated. Return to and drop off at your hotel.

D3 CUSCO – AWANAKANCHA – PISAC – OLLANTAYTAMBO – SACRED VALLEY Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before depar ng for the Urubamba River valley, which i s popularly known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The first stop is at Awana Kancha (‘weaving palace’ in Quechua) a farm-cum-zoo where endemic Andean camelids are bred. Learn about llamas, alpacas and vicuñas, which are friendly and domes cable, and which have wool with very strong fibers, which are used to weave ponchos, chullos, and other garments. Con nue to Pisac, a historic town on the valley floor, to wander through its market. Break for lunch is a local diner before con nuing to late Inca period Ollantaytambo fortress, which controlled access to the Sacred Valley. The site is a huge archaeological complex which, although it is known as a ‘fortress’, was actually a tambo, a leisure city used to accommodate delega ons that traveled long distances . D4 SACRED VALLEY – INCA TRAIL: PISKACUCHO - WAYLLABAMBA (12km – 4hrs) You will be picked up from your hotel in the Sacred Valley at a very early hour and will head for Piscacucho (km. 82), the st ar ng point of the hike to the Inca Trail. On the way, you will stop in the town of Ollantaytambo for 15 or 20 minutes. Once you arrive in Piscacucho, you w ill start to hike un l you reach our camp in Wayllabamba. Lunch will be served on the way. Today you will walk between 5 and 6 hours (7.7 miles). Dinner will be served and the camp, where you will overnight.

D5 INCA TRAIL: WAYLLABAMBA - PACAYMAYO (13km – 7,5 hrs) A er breakfast, you will start the hardest part of the hike, which consists of climbing to the highest poi nt on the road, the Warmi Wañusca pass (4,200m/13,776 ). Then you will descend to our second camp in Pacaymayo, where you will enjoy lunch and dinner and will over night. You will walk between 6 and 7 hours today (7.2 miles).

D6 INCA TRAIL: PACAYMAYO - WIÑAYHUAYNA (15km – 7 hrs) This is the longest and the most impressive and interes ng day due to the quan ty of archaeological complexes and the cloud forest you will find on the way. You will ascend to the Runquracay pass from Pacaymayo, and then you will descend to Chaquicocha, to enjoy a delicious and refreshing lunch. At the end, you will con nue to ascend to the Phuyupatamarca pass (3,700m/12,073 ), you will walk through a cloud forest to reach the last camp, Wiñayhuayna (2,679m/8,792 ). You will walk between 8 and 9 hours today (10 miles). Dinner will be served at the camp, where you will overnight.

D7 INCA TRAIL: WIÑAYHUAYNA - MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO (6km – 2 hrs) You will resume hiking in the early morning a er having breakfast, to reach th e In punku (“Gateway of the Sun”), the entrance to Machu Picchu. You will see the historic sanctuary in full splendor at daybreak, to then descend to the citadel. The guide will explain this Inca won der for two hours, and then you will have free me to walk around and enjoy Machu Picchu on your own. At the end of the tour, you will return to Aguas Calientes by bus. You will ha ve lunch at “Café Inkaterra” in Machu Picchu Pueblo. DAY BY DAY D1 CITY TOUR: CATHEDRAL, CASA ALIAGA AND LARCO MUSEUM Explore Lima old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site packed with fascina ng historic buildings. Start with a scenic tour in t he colonial downtown, which radiates from the Main Square, where you can apprecia te the grandiose architecture of the Spanish Empire. Stroll over to the Cathedral, which was begun in the 16th century and took 80 years to build. Then visit the Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted in 1535 by chief conqu istador Francisco Pizarro to Jerónimo de Aliaga, one of his captains. This is the only house from that me that s ll belongs to the same family a er all t hese centuries. Con nue to the Larco Museum, located in the tradi onal Pueblo Libre district, which is housed in a beau fully re stored viceregal mansion built on a seventh-century a preColumbian pyramid. The museum boasts the most complete pre-Hispanic collec on of gold and silver artefacts, as well as pieces of ero c art. Finally, head to the ‘Love Park’ in the upscale coastal district of Miraflores, where you can admire the cliffs and a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. On the route we will take a short break in Mo llepata before climbing a winding mountain road up to a place called Soraypampa (12,690 ). From here we will start to walk to the Salkantay pass (4,63 8m). We will stop at the pass to enjoy the sights of the snowed-capped mountains of the Vilcabamba Range in all direc ons, the southern face of the Salkantay glacier rising over us. We will keep your eyes well open to spot the Andean condors that can be seen in this area. We will descend from the mountain sad dle to Wayracmachay, to enjoy our lunch and then con nue to descend on the le bank of the Salkantay River, through an increasingly greener landscape. We can feel the warm air ascending from the jungle, accompanied by colorful bu erflies and orchids, and we will reach our first camp in Andenes ( 9,481 ), a beau ful place surrounded by lush vegeta on.


D4 ANDENES – LUCMABAMBA Today we will con nue to hike along the Santa Teresa river valley, through more densely populated rural areas. We will pass by orchards, banana, granadilla, avocado and coffee planta ons (this is recognized as one of the best organic coffees in the world). We will enjoy a picnic lunch on the way. A er lunch, we will walk for about 2 hours; a private vehicle will gather us for a short tour to the beginning of the "Llactapata Inca Trail" (for about 30 minutes). From the beginning of the recently restored Inca Trail we easily hike to the last camp in Lucmabamba. In the evening, we will a e nd a coffee tas ng demonstra on presented by our host, a local family.

LUCMABAMBA–LLAQTAPATA – AGUAS CALIENTES A er breakfast, we will start our last day of hike. We will climb for 2 -3 hours to the Llactapata pass, where we will get a remote yet spectacular glimpse of the Machu Picchu historic sanctuary from the southeast (8,974 ), a view that few travellers have the opportunity to watch. We will take a short break to explore the Llactapata remains. Lunch is served at the lookout, with a view of Machu Picchu. A er lunch, we start our final descent to the Aobamba River through bamboo woods, lush orchards and coffee planta ons. Finally, we will reach the train sta on at the Machu Picchu Hydroelectri c Power Plant, where we will board the train for Aguas Calientes.

D6 AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO Today will be unforge able because we will visit Machu Picchu, one of the 7 wonders of the world. A er breakfast, we will board the buses tha t will take us to the Machu Picchu citadel, a masterpiece of engineering and architecture. which is believed to have served as a sa nctuary and resort for Inca Pachacútec (1438-1471). Stroll over to the Cathedral, which was begun in the 16th century and took 80 years to build. Then visit the Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted in 1535 by chief conqu istador Francisco Pizarro to Jerónimo de Aliaga, one of his captains. D4CUSCO – PISAC – OLLANTAYTAMBO – SACRED VALLEY (75km – 8 hrs) Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before depar ng for the Uru bamba River valley, which is popularly known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The first stop is at Awana Kancha (‘weaving palace’ in Quechua) a farm-cum-zoo where endemic Andean camelids are bred. Learn about llamas, alpacas and vicuñas, which are friendly and domes cable, and which have wool with very strong fibers, which are used to weave ponchos, chullos, and other garment s. Con nue to Pisac, a historic town on the valley floor, to wander through its market. Break for lunch is a local diner before co n nuing to late Inca period Ollantaytambo fortress, which controlled access to the Sacred Valley. The site is a huge archaeological complex which, although it is known as a ‘fortress’, was actually a tambo, a leisure city used to accommodate delega ons that traveled long distances. D5 SACRED VALLEY – MACHU PICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES (115km – 4 hrs) A er breakfast at the hotel, head to Poroy Sta on to board the train to Aguas Calientes, the nearest town to Machu Pi cchu. Following a scenic three-anda-half-hour journey through drama c Andean landscapes, arrive at the sta on in Aguas Calientes. Here you board a coach for a 25min ute ride to Machu Picchu itself. The ‘Lost City of the Incas’ had lain abandoned in the heavens for four centuries un l American explorer Hiram Bingham happened upon it in 1911. Machu Picchu is believed to have been built in the 1450s by Inca emperor Pachacu as a holiday retreat yet within a ce ntury the city would be abandoned following the Spanish conquest. The Spaniards never found it so it was spared the destruc on they wrought on other Inca sites. Instead, it was slowly swallowed up by the jungle and hidden from harm. A guided tour explains the origins behind this awe-inspiring citadel and the most prominent landmarks among the 200 or so buildings such as the monumental Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windo ws, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and the Burial Grounds. Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch at the famous Café Inkaterra, a beau ful thatched -roof restaurant hemmed in between the railway and a mountain.Rest of the day free at leisure.

D6 AGUAS CALIENTES – CUSCO (110km – 4 hrs) Breakfast at the hotel is followed by a free morning. We strongly r ecommend that you wake early today and make your way to see the sunrise over Machu Picchu. This is a genuine once-in-a-life me experience. The best views are from Huayna Picchu, which is about 360 meters above Machu Picchu and boasts an underground temple complex, and In Punku, which offers even be er views from some 390 meters above the citadel. Another op on is the Inca Bridge, a secret military trail, which controlled access to the citadel. In the a ernoon, return by train to Cusco.

D7CUSCO – PUNO (390km – 10 hrs) Transfer to the bus sta on a er breakfast at the hotel, boarding a bus to Puno, on the western shore of Lake Ti caca. Ther e are three stops along the way to visit historic monuments. The first stop is at Andahuaylillas, a picturesqu e town famed for the beau ful 16th century Church of St Peter the Apostle. It boasts a gilded baroque interior and frescoes so delicate that it is known as the ‘Sis ne Chapel of America’. Con nue to Ra qchi to admire the ruins of an Inca temple built to worship Wiracocha, one of the most important Inca gods. Break for lunch at Sicuani and also stop briefly at La Raya, which at more than 4,300 meters above sea level is the highest point on the route. The final cultural stop is at the archaeological site of Pukara, which dates from 200BC to 300AD, and where you can admire the collec on of pre-Inca sculptures and objects at the Lithic Museum. D8 LAKE TITICACACRUISE Transfer to the shore of Lake Ti caca a er breakfast to enjoy a motor boat cruise, aligh ng at a number of the islands in the lake. The first stop is at the unique Uros Islands. There are more than 40 of these floa ng islets, which are made en rely from totora reeds plucked from the lake. Meet the Aymara speaking islanders, learn all about the making of the islands, their lifespan and upkeep while exploring these marvels of eng ineering made using only primi ve materials and methods. D2 CITY TOUR: CATHEDRAL , CASA ALIAGA AND LARCO MUSEUM Explore Lima old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site packed with fascina ng historic buildings. Start with a scenic tour in th e colonial downtown, which radiates from the Main Square, where you can appreciate the grandiose architecture of the Spanish Empire . Stroll over to the Cathedral, which was begun in the 16th century and took 80 years to build. Then visit the Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted in 1535 by chief conqu istador Francisco Pizarro to Jerónimo de Aliaga, one of his captains. This is the only house from that me that s ll belongs to the same family a er all these centuries. Con nue to the Larco Museum, located in the tradi onal Pueblo Libre district, which is housed in a beau fully restored viceregal mansion b uilt on a seventh-century a preColumbian pyramid. The museum boasts the most complete pre-Hispanic collec on of gold and silver artefacts, as well as pieces of ero c art. Finally, head to the ‘Love Park’ in the upscale coastal district of Miraflores, where you can admire the cl iffs and a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. D3 LIMA – AREQUIPA (90 mins flight me) CITY TOUR AND SANTA CATALINA CONVENT Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before transfer to the airport to catch a flight to Arequipa in the south of the country. On arrival in Arequipa, you are met b y a representa ve and transferred to your selected hotel in the city. In the a ernoon, head for a tour of Peru’s third -biggest city, which is popularly known as the ‘White City’ because of the sillar volcanic rock used in many of the buildings. Start off at the main square, Plaza de Armas, admiring its elegant colonial buildings such as the neo-Renaissance style cathedral beforevisi ng the sensa onal Santa Catalina convent, which for centuries was a forbidden city within a city, closed off from prying eyes and the influences of the outside world. The convent, founded in the 16th cen tury, was an almost selfsustained village, made up of houses for the nuns and their servants, cloisters, plazas and narrow streets, kitchens, refectories and more. The nuns’ families paid vast dowries for their daughters to be admi ed, which added to the convent’s wealth and pres ge. Nowadays, to wande r through its brightly colored alleys is to step back centuries in me to colonial Peru. Con nue to the Church of the Company, perhaps the greatest master piece of Peruvian baroque, to study its fascina ng façade. The vestry is par cularly beau ful with its cupola and walls covered in murals represen ng the jungle while the Jesuit seminary is famous for its beau ful principal cloister. Finally, head to the residen al districts of Yanahuara and Chilina, where yo u can enjoy a magnificent view of Mt Mis volcano rising above the city in the horizon.

D4 AREQUIPA – COLCA VALLEY (170km – 4.5 hrs) Depart Arequipa a er breakfast at the hotel, driving through the Yura district en route to the Colca Valley. Yura is charact erized by a number of drama c geographical features such as gullies, mountain ranges and canyons. Con nue through the Pampa Cañahuas Reserve, an extensive plai n populated by


vicuñas, one of the four indigenous Andean camelids found all over Peru. Cross through the pampas of Viscachani and Toccra, skir ng the crater of the Chucura volcano to reach the Los Andes scenic lookout in Patapampa, which is 4,800 meters above sea level. From here, you can see the various volcanoes that surround Arequipa. Lunch is in the picturesque town of Chivay with transfer in the a ernoon to your selected hotel in the Colca Valley. Rest of the day free at leisure or you may visit the local hot springs.

D5 COLCA VALLEY – PUNO (280km – 6 hrs) A er breakfast at the hotel, prepare for a day of high drama wi th a trip to the breathtaking Condor Cross lookout. Take a deep breath and appreciate the sheer vastness of the Colca Valley, which is one of the world's deepest canyons with a maximum depth of more than 4,160 meter s – twice that of the Grand Canyon. The thrill of the experience is enhanced by the natural spectacle of huge condors flying over the canyon. Watch in awe as these gr aceful birds of prey glide over the canyon, patrolling it with military discipline. Descend to the valley floor to discover some of the rus c towns on the banks of the River Colca such as Chivay, Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma and Yanque, where quaint colonial churches are as much as part of the scenery as the peaks of the Andes.There are also stops at the scenic lookouts of Antahuilque and Choque co, where you can admire majes c views of the valley. A er lunch, which is also at the hotel, take to the road for Puno on the western shore of Lake Ti caca. The route cuts through the Salinas and Aguada Blanca Na onal Reserve and takes in the stunning ‘stone forests’ of Patahuasi. The landscapes and scenery could not be more forbidding yet enchan ng, with a combina on high plains, unusual rock forma ons and lagoons populated by cranes drying their wings in the icy wind above the water. D6 PUNO – TOUR TO THE UROS ISLANDS & TAQUILE ON LAKE TITICACA– PUNO Transfer to the shore of Lake Ti caca a er breakfast to enjoy a motor boat cruise, aligh ng at a number of the islands in the lake. The first stop is at the unique Uros Islands. There are more than 40 of these floa ng islets, which are made en rely from totora reeds plucked from the lake. Meet the Aymaraspeaking islanders, learn all about the making of the islands, their lifespan and upkeep while exploring these marvels of engineering made using only primi ve materials and methods. Board the boat again to con nue the voyage of discovery at meless Taquile island, where t he Quechua-speaking residents have maintained their ancient social system and earned a reputa on for their fine hand -weaving technique. The island’s history is also as fascina ng as its people, having been a penal colony during Spanish colonial mes. Retu rn to Puno a er lunch with rest of the day free at leisure.

D7PUNO – CUSCO (390km – 10 hrs) Savor breakfast at the hotel before taking to road for Cusco. Transfer from your hotel to the sta on to take the bus to the former Inca capital. Travel through the jaw-dropping landscapes of the highland plateau, which are do ed by Andean hamlets and herds of grazing llamas and vicuñas. Stop en route at the archaeological site of Pukara, which dates from 200BC to 300AD, as well as in Raqchi to admire the ruins of an Inca temple built to worship Wiracocha, one of the most important Inca gods. There is one more stop before Cusco at Andahuaylillas, a picturesque town famed for the beau ful 16th century Church of St Peter the Apostle. It boasts a gilded baroque inter ior and frescoes so delicate that it is known as the ‘Sis ne Chapel of America’. Also visit the towns of Huaro and Checacupe to see their beau ful churches. Upon arrival in Cusco, you are met by a representa ve and tran sferred to your selected hotel in the city.

D8 CUSCO CITY TOUR AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES Enjoy a guided tour of this charming city, which was the capital of the Inca Empire. The tour starts with a visit to Santo Do mingo Convent, a large Renaissance-baroque complex, which was built over the Inca Qoricancha temple. It was one of the most important temples dedicated to the worship of the sun and its founda ons are s ll prominent at the base of the convent. Ancient chronicles say the temple was covered in gold leaf and filled with golden representa ons of nature. Con nue to the Plaza de Armas to visit the cathedral. It features an elaborate Renaissance façade and, like other important monuments in the city, was built over a demolished Inca temple. Head to the hills above Cusco to visit th e remains of the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, whose imposing ramparts offer a stunning panoramic view of Cusco, the ruins of temple and amphitheater of Qenqo, where it is believ ed the Incas prac ced agricultural rituals. Finally, visit Puka Pukara (‘Red fort ress’ in Quechua) an Inca military complex located on a prominent hill. Its dwellings squares, bathrooms, aqueducts, walls and towers can s ll be appreciated. Return to and drop off at your hotel.

D9 CUSCO – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO (115km – 4 hrs) A er breakfast at the hotel, head to Poroy Sta on to board the train to Aguas Calientes, the nearest town to Machu Picchu. Following a scenic three-anda-half-hour journey through drama c Andean landscapes, arrive at the sta on in Aguas Calientes. Here you boar d a coach for a 25-minute ride to Machu Picchu itself. The ‘Lost City of the Incas’ had lain abandoned in the heavens for four centuries un l American explorer Hira m Bingham happened upon it in 1911. Machu Picchu is believed to have been built in the 1450s by Inca emperor Pachacu as a holiday retreat yet within a century the city would be abandoned following the Spanish conquest. The Spaniards never found it so it was spared the destruc on they wrought on other Inca sites. Instead, it was


slowly swallowed up by the jungle and hidden from harm. A guided tour explains the origins behind this awe-inspiring citadel and the most prominent landmarks among the 200 or so buildings such as the monumental Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Wi ndows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and the Burial Grounds. Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch at the famous Café Inkaterra, a beau ful tha tched-roof restaurant hemmed in between the railway and a mountain.

D4 CUSCO / MACHU PICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES Your trip to Machu Picchu will start with a private transfer from your hotel to the Ollantaytambo t rain sta on, a route of approximately 2 hours, from where you will take the train to Aguas Calientes, which takes approximately 1 and a half hours. Here you board a coach for a 25-minute ride to Machu Picchu itself. The ‘Lost City of the Incas’ had lain abandoned in the heavens for four centuries un l American explorer Hiram Bingham happened upon it in 1911. Machu Picchu is believed to have been built in the 1450s by Inca emperor Pachacu as a holiday retreat yet within a ce ntury the city would be abandoned following the Spanish conquest. The Spaniards never found it so it was spared the destruc on they wrought on other Inca sites. Instead, it was slowly swallowed up by the jungle and hidden from harm. Stroll over to the Cathed ral, which was begun in the 16th century and took 80 years to build. Then visit the Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted in 1535 by chief conquistador Francisco Pizarro to Jerónimo de Aliaga, one of his captains. D5 AREQUIPA CITY TOUR A ND SANTA CATALINA CO NVENT Enjoy a tour of Peru’s third-biggest city, which is popularly known as the ‘White City’ because of the sillar volcanic rock used in many of the buildings. Start off at the main square, Plaza de Armas, admiring its elegant colonial buildings such as the neo -Renaissance style cathedral before visi ng the sensa onal Santa Catalina convent, which for centuries was a forb idden city within a city, closed off from prying eyes and the influences of the outside world. The convent, founded in the 16th century, was an almost self -sustained village, made up of houses for the nuns and their servants, cloisters, plazas and narrow streets, kitchens, refectories and more. The nuns’ families paid vast dowries for their daughters to be admi ed, which added to the convent’s wealth and pres ge. Nowadays, to wander through its brightly colored alleys is to step back centuries in me to colonial Peru. D6 AREQUIPA – COLCA VALLEY (165km – 3 hrs) Depart Arequipa a er breakfast at the hotel, driving through the Yura district en route to the Colca Valley. Yura is charact erized by a number of drama c geographical features such as gullies, mountain ranges and canyons. Con nue throu gh the Pampa Cañahuas Reserve, an extensive plain populated by vicuñas, one of the four indigenous Andean camelids found all over Peru. Cross through the pampas of Viscachani and Toccra, s kir ng the crater of the Chucura Volcano to reach the Los Andes scenic lookout in Patapampa, which is 4,800 meters above sea level. D7 COLCA VALLEY – PUNO (280km – 6 hrs) A er breakfast at the hotel, prepare for a day of high drama with a trip to the breathtaking Condor Cross lookout. Take a de ep breath and appreciate the sheer vastness of the Colca Valley, which is one of the world's deepest canyons with a maximum depth of more than 4,160 meter s – twice that of the Grand Canyon. The thrill of the experience is enhanced by the natural spectacle of huge condors flying over the canyon. Watch in awe as these graceful birds of prey glide over the canyon, patrolling it with military discipline. Descend to the valley floor to discover some of the rus c towns on the banks of the River Colca such as Chivay, Pinchollo, Maca, A choma and Yanque, where quaint colonial churches are as much as part of the scenery as the peaks of the Andes. TOUR OVERVIEW Savor a southern sojourn for 13in this fascinating corner of Peru, visiting the main cities and cultural treasures. Starting and ending by the capital, Lima, the tourt akes in the gastronomic capital of Arequipa, the Colca Valley, the indigenous world centered on Lake Titicaca, and the Inca and colonial heritage of Cusco as well as Machu Picchu, the legendary ‘Lost City of the Incas’. Groups vary in size, but are typically made up of about 6-10 travelers.

DAY BY DAY D1 LIMA On arrival in Lima, you receive assistance at the airport and are transferred to your selected hotel. Rest of the day is free at leisure to get to know the city.

D2 CITY TOUR: CATHEDRAL, CASA ALIAGA AND LARCO MUSEUM Explore Lima old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site packed with fascina ng historic buildings. Start with a scenic tour in the colonia l downtown, which radiates from the Main Square, where you can appreciate the grandiose architecture of the Spanish Empire. Stroll over to the Cathedral, which was begun in the 16th century and took 80 years to build. Then visit the Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted in 1535 by chief conqu istador Francisco Pizarro to Jerónimo de Aliaga, one of his captains. This is the only house from that me that s ll belongs to the same family a er all these centuries. Con nue to the Larco Museum, located in the tradi onal Pueblo Libre district, which is housed in a beau fully restored viceregal mansion b uilt on a seventh-century a preColumbian pyramid. The museum boasts the most complete pre-Hispanic collec on of gold and silver artefacts, as well as pieces of ero c art. Finally, head to the ‘Love Park’ in the upscale coastal district of Miraflores, where you can admire the cliffs and a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. The tour may end at the Larcomar Shopping Mall, at the Peru pa’ food market or at the hotel.

D3 LIMA – AREQUIPA (90 mins flight me) CITY TOUR AND SANTA CATALINA CONVENT Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before transfer to the airport to catch a flight to Arequipa in the south of the country. On arrival in Arequipa, you are met by a representa ve and transferred to your selected hotel in the city. In the a ernoon, head for a tour of Peru’s third -biggest city, which is popularly known as the ‘White City’ because of the sillar volcanic rock used in many of the buildings. Start off at the main square, Plaza de Ar mas, admiring its elegant colonial buildings such as the neo-Renaissance style cathedral before visi ng the sensa onal Santa Catalina convent, which for centuries was a forbidden city within a city, closed off from prying eyes and the influences of the outside world. The convent, founded in the 16th century, was an almost self-sustained village, made up of houses for the nuns and their servants, cloisters, plazas and narrow streets, kitchens, refectories and more. The nuns’ famil ies paid vast dowries for their daughters to be admi ed, which added to the convent’s wealth and pres ge. Nowadays, to wander th rough its brightly colored alleys is to step back centuries in me to colonial Peru. Con nue to the Church of the Company, perhaps the greatest masterpiece of Peruvian baroque, to study its fascina ng façade. The vestry is par cularly beau ful with it s cupola and walls covered in murals represen ng the jungle while the Jesuit seminary is famous for its beau ful principal cloister. Finally, head to the residen al districts of Yanahuara and Chilina, where you c an enjoy a magnificent view of Mt Mis volcano rising above the city in the horizon.

D4 AREQUIPA – COLCA VALLEY Depart Arequipa a er breakfast at the hotel, driving through the Yura district en route to the Colca Valley. Yura is charact erized by a number of drama c geographical features such as gullies, mountain ranges and canyons. Con nue through the Pampa Cañahuas Reserve, an extensive plain populated by vicuñas, one of the four indigenous Andean camelids found all over Peru. Cross through the pampas of Viscachani and Toccra, s kir ng the crater of the Chucura Volcano to reach the Los Andes scenic lookout in Patapampa, which is 4,800 meters above sea level. From here, you can see the various volcanoes that surround Arequipa. Lunch is in the picturesque town of Chivay with transfer in t he a ernoon to your selected hotel in the Colca Valley. Rest of the day free at leisure or you may visit the local hot springs.


D5 COLCA VALLEY TOUR A er breakfast at the hotel, prepare for a day of high drama with a trip to the breathtak ing Condor Cross lookout. Take a deep breath and appreciate the sheer vastness of the Colca Valley, which is one of the world's deepest canyons with a maximum depth of more than 4,160 meter s – twice that of the Grand Canyon. The thrill of the experience is enhanced by the natural spectacle of huge condors flying over the canyon. Watch in awe as these graceful birds of prey glide over the canyon, patrolling it with military discipline. Descend to the valley floor to discover some of the rus c towns on the banks of the River Colca such as Chivay, Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma and Yanque, where quaint colonial churches are as much as part of the scenery a s the peaks of the Andes.There are also stops at the scenic lookouts of Antahuilque and Choque co, where you can admire majes c views of the valley. Con nue to the Ocolle lookout to admire what’s know as ‘the Amphitheater’ and then hike to the Uyo Uyo archeological site. Return to and dro p off at your hotel.

D6 COLCA / PUNO Morning free at leisure. A er lunch at the hotel, take to the road for Puno on the western shore of Lake Ti caca. The route cuts through the Salinas and Aguada Blanca Na onal Reserve and takes in the stunning ‘stone forests’ of Patahuasi. The landscapes and scenery could not b e more forbidding yet enchan ng, with a combina on high plains, unusual rock forma ons and lagoons populated by cranes drying their wings in the icy wind above the water. On arrival in Puno, transfer to your selected accommoda on for check -in, with the rest of the day free at leisure.

D7 LAKE TITICACA CRUISE Transfer to the shore of Lake Ti caca a er breakfast to enjoy a motor boat cruise, aligh ng at a number of the islands in the lake. The first stop is at the unique Uros Islands. There are more than 40 of these floa ng islets, which are made en rely from totora reeds plucked from the lake. Meet the Aymara speaking islanders, learn all about the making of the islands, their lifespan and upkeep while exploring these marvels of eng ineering made using only primi ve materials and methods. Board the boat again to con nue the voyage of discovery at meless Taquile island. Unlike other islands, inhabited by Aymara-speaking people in the lake, its residents speak Quechua. It was part of the Inca Empire and i t is s ll possible to no ce ves ges of said culture in their buildings. Nevertheless, when the Spaniards arrived, they forced the residents to get rid of their typical clothes and forced them to wear tradi onal farmers’ clothes. Upon your arrival, you will receive a brief explana on of the island and will a end a cultural ac vity. You will have lunch and will return to Puno. The rest of the day free at leisure.

D8 PUNO – CUSCO (390km – 10 hrs) Savor breakfast at the hotel before taking to road fo r Cusco. Transfer from your hotel to the sta on to take the bus to the former Inca capital. Travel through the jaw-dropping landscapes of the highland plateau, which are do ed by Andean hamlets and herds of grazing llamas and vicuñas. Stop en route at the archaeological site of Pukara, which dates from 200BC to 300AD, as well as in Raqchi to admire the ruins of an Inca temple built to worship Wiracocha, one of the most important Inca gods. There is one more stop before Cusco at Andahuaylillas, a picturesq ue town famed for the beau ful 16th century Church of St Peter the Apostle. It boasts a gilded baroque interior and frescoes so delicate that it is known as the ‘Sis ne Chapel of America’. Upon arrival in Cusco, you are met by a representa ve and transf erred to your selected hotel in the city.

D9 CUSCO CITY TOUR AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES Enjoy a guided tour of this charming city, which was the capital of the Inca Empire. The tour starts with a visit to Santo Do mingo Convent, a large Renaissance-baroque complex, which was built over the Inca Qoricancha temple. It was one of the most important temples dedicated to the wor ship of the sun and its founda ons are s ll prominent at the base of the convent. Ancient chronicles say the temple was covered i n gold leaf and filled with golden representa ons of nature. Con nue to the Plaza de Armas to visit the cathedral. It features an elaborate Renaissance façade and, like other important monuments in the city, was built over a demolished Inca temple. Head to the hills above Cusco to visit the remains of the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, whose imposing ramparts offer a stunning panoramic view of Cusco, the ruins of temple and amphitheater of Qenqo, where it is believ ed the Incas prac ced agricultural rituals. Finally, visit Puka Pukara (‘Red fortress’ in Quechua) an Inca military complex located on a prominent hill. Its dwellings squ ares, bathrooms, aqueducts, walls and towers can s ll be appreciated. Return to and drop off at your hotel.

D10 CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY – CUSCO Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before depar ng for the Urubamba River valley, which is popularly known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The first stop is at Awana Kancha (‘weaving palace’ in Quechua) a farm-cum-zoo where endemic Andean camelids are bred. Learn about llamas, alpacas and vicuñas, which are friendly and domes cable, and which have wool with very strong fibers, which are used to weave ponchos, chullos, and oth er garments. Con nue to


Pisac, a historic town on the valley floor, to wander through its market. Break for lunch is a local diner before con nuing to late Inca period Ollantaytambo fortress, which controlled access to the Sacred Valley. The site is a huge archaeological complex which, although it is known as a ‘fortress’, was actually a tambo, a leisure city used to accommodate delega ons that traveled long distances. Drop off at your selected hotel.

D11 SACRED VALLEY – MACHU PICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES A er breakfast at the hotel, head to Ollantaytambo Sta on to b oard the train to Aguas Calientes, the nearest town to Machu Picchu. A er a scenic one and-a-half-hour journey through drama c Andean landscapes, arrive at the sta on in Aguas Calientes. Here you board a coach for a 25-minute ride to Machu Picchu itself. The ‘Lost City of the Incas’ had lain abandoned in the heavens for four centuries un l American explorer Hiram Bingham happened upon it in 1911. Machu Picchu is believed to have been built in the 1450s by Inca emperor Pachacu as a hol iday retreat yet within a century the city would be abandoned following the Spanish conquest. The Spaniards never found it so it was spared the destruc on they wrought on other Inca sites. Instead, it was slowly swallowed up by the jungle and hidden from harm. A guided tour explains the origins behind this awe-inspiring citadel and the most prominent landmarks among the 200 or so buildings such as the monumental Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and the Burial Grounds. Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch at the famous Café Inkaterra, a beau ful thatched -roof restaurant hemmed in between the railway and a mountain

D12 AGUAS CALIENTES – CUSCO Breakfast at the hotel is followed by a free morning. W e strongly recommend that you wake early today and make your way to see the sunrise over Machu Picchu. This is a genuine once-in-a-life me experience. The best views are from Huayna Picchu, which is about 360 meters above Machu Picchu and boasts an underground temple complex, and In Punku, which offers even be er views from some 390 meters above the citadel. Another op on i s the Inca Bridge, a secret military trail, which controlled access to the citadel. In the a ernoon, return by train to Cusco.

Observe these mysterious lines and geoglyphs in the form of animals, which have been carved into the desert for some 1,500 years. The representa ons of figures such as a condor, a whale, a monkey, and even a man who looks like an astronaut are a sight to behold. DAY BY DAY D1 AREQUIPA – CITY TOUR + SANTA CATALINA CONVENT On arrival in Arequipa, you are met by a representa ve and transferred to your selected hotel in the city. Head for a tour of Peru’s third-biggest city, which is popularly known as the ‘White City’ because of the sillar volcanic rock used in many of the buildings. Start off at the main square, Plaza de Armas, admiring its elegant colonial buildings such as the neo-Renaissance style cathedral before visiting the sensa onal Santa Catalina convent, which for centuries was a forbidden city within a city, closed off from prying eyes and the influences of the outside world. The convent, founded in the 16th century, was an almost self-sustained village, made up of houses for the nuns and their servants, cloisters, plazas and narrow streets, kitchens, refectories and more. The nuns’ families paid vast dowries for their daughters to be admi ed, which added to the convent’s wealth and pres ge. Nowadays, to wander through its brightly colored alleys is to step back centuries in me to colo nial Peru. Con nue to the Church of the Company, perhaps the greatest masterpiece of Peruvian baroque, to study its fascina ng façade. The vestry is par cularly beau ful with its cupola and wa lls covered in murals represen ng the jungle while the Jesuit seminary is famous for its beau ful principal cloister. DAY BY DAY D1 LIMA / TRUJILLO – CITY TOUR + ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM Upon your arrival in Trujillo, you will receive assistance at the airport and will be transferred to the selected hotel. In the a ernoon, a transporta on service will pick you up from your hotel and make a brief tour of the a rac ons of Trujillo City. As an important city during the Spanish colonial mes, Trujillo s ll keeps beau ful buildings and mansions. You will take a scenic tour to the Santa Clara and El Carmen Churches and their cloistered convents, and to Saint Francis' Church. You will then visit the La Merced Church and the High Court of Jus ce. You will con nue your tour to the Main Square and the Cathedral, built between 1647 and 1666, which houses late baroque altarpieces and pain ngs from the Cusco and Quito art schools You will also visit the Archbishop's Palace and the Calonge House, a colonial house built a er the 1619 earthquake, which served as accommoda on for Simón Bolívar, the Liberator. You will then visit the Emancipa on House, which is the current seat of Banco Con nental, and then the Iturregui Palace, which is the current seat of the Central Club, built in 1842. You will finally enjoy a scenic view of the El Recreo Small Square and Trujillo City's Ancient Wall, before going to the Archaeology and History Museum of Universidad Nacional de Trujillo, where you will find objects from the different cultures that developed in the area of La Libertad. You will be transferred back to your hotel at the end of the tour.

D2 TRUJILLO – THE SUN & THE MOON TEMPLES - CHAN CHAN - HUANCHACO This day you will drive south of Trujillo to visit a religious center of the Mochica culture, built in the fi h century. Admire the temples of the Sun and the Moon that cons tuted the center of the ancient Moche culture, which developed between 100 AD and 900 AD. The archeological complex includes two large pyramids, the Huaca Las Estrellas, Huaca del Cerro Blanco, the Spider geoglyph and other buildings. Also visit the workshop of a tradi onal ar san Moche family. Con nue with the visit of Huaca Dragon, also known as Huaca Arco Iris, belonging to the Chimu culture and located at the north of the city of Trujillo. This is a great religious monument and ceremonial and administra ve center, built in adobe, whose murals are decorated with friezes, showing human figures and represen ng a s lyzed rainbow. Enjoy a delicious lunch at a typical restaurant, before proceeding with the visit to the archaeological complex of Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in America and also the largest of the Chimu culture, with an area of 20 km2 approximately. Proceed then to Huanchaco, an ancient fishing village where you can see the old boats called "Caballitos de Totora" with which millenary tradi on of ar sanal fishing is kept. A er the visit, you will be transfered back to the hotel.

D3 TRUJILLO – EL BRUJO COMPLEX (CAO) / CHICLAYO Depart for the Valley of Chicama, located some 20 miles northern Trujillo, to visit the archaeological complex "El Brujo", which dates back to the Mochica culture. The Na onal University of Trujillo and the Na onal Ins tute of Culture began a joint "dig" here in 1990. They have discovered the "Huaca Cao highlights", pyramids reaching up to 150 feet in height with walls decorated with friezes and colored reliefs that depict complex scenes, characters, and geometric designs. These are the only examples known to relate to the Mochican culture. Interes ngly, the site is located very close to the seashore, and it is believed that ancient mari me rituals were carried out here, although excava on is on going and may reveal addi onal uses for the El Brujo area. Discover the mystery of an ornately ta ooed 1,600 year -old-Mummy unearthed in this archaeological complex, and preserved for centuries, thanks to a me culous treatment and ancient ritual that included the applica on of cinnabar, a red mineral that inhibits the descomposi on of the skin and ssues. A er visit, con nue to Chiclayo.


D4 CHICLAYO – TÚCUME - TUMBAS REALES MUSEUM (SEÑOR DE SIPÁN) - HUACA RAJADA / LIMA A er breakfast, you will be picked up for your tour in Chiclayo. It will begin at Tucume Archaeological Complex. With over 200 hectares, the complex has 26 buildings of monumental structures associated with lower rank buildings as squares, walls, pa os and canals, reflec ng a system of planned growth and the complicated social structure of Lambayeque. Visit also its museum, to get a be er idea of what life was like during that period. Then you will head towards Lambayeque where you will visit the Royal Tombs Museum. Due to the Lord of Sipan discovery, whose importance was shown in the complexity of its burial and apparent semi-divine status, the crea on of a new museum was necessary to be in accordance with the discovery. Thus, a er rescuing, inves ga ng and restoring all registered pieces, the museum was built, a unique place in South America. A er having lunch at El Cantaro or El Pacifico, both local restaurants, will head to Huaca Rajada Archaeological Complex. This is a set of huge mud pyramids par ally destroyed for centuries because of the climate. The place gained special notoriety in 1987 when Dr. Walter Alva, then director of the Bruning Museum of Lambayeque was aware of the illegal excava ons that had been made. And what began as a protec on plan ended with the magnificent discovery of Lord of Sipan's tomb, one of the most impressive pre-Columbian burials in Peru.
