Cuzco & Machu Picchu

Journey to Iquitos & the Amazon

Wonder at the beauty of the mysterious citadel, Machu Picchu, known as the “Lost City of the Incas.” Perched 2,408 metres above sea level on a mountain ridge, this archaeological jewel is the most famous icon of the Inca world. Equally fascinating is nearby Cuzco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire, blending colonial Spanish charm with the more ancient remains of Pre-Columbian glory. You will also explore Sacsayhuaman, an ancient complex of massive, precisely constructed walls on the outskirts of Cuzco. Located on a steep hill that overlooks the city, the site offers an impressive view of the valley below.

European-Peruvians established Iquitos as a Jesuit mission to the indigenous peoples in the 1750s. During the rubber boom of the late 19th century, Iquitos attracted thousands of immigrants from around the world, creating a diverse culture of ethnically mixed families. After a tour of Iquitos, enjoy a 25-mile riverboat journey down the Amazon River to your lodge in the Amazon rainforest. You may choose to visit a Yagua Indian village and learn firsthand about the native culture, or perhaps you prefer to venture along the Canopy Walkway, suspended over 30 metres in the air, for a tree-top view of the amazing Amazon wildlife and vegetation.
