THE IMPULSE TO TRAVEL IS ONE OF THE HOPEFUL SYMPTOMS OF LIFE As I write this introduction to the list of 2021 tours, I have to wonder how many of you may be thinking twice about travel. We’ve just entered the second week of self-imposed social distancing due to the worldwide pandemic now known as COVID-19. To say it has changed the current state of travel would be an understatement. Will we ever travel again? Of course, we will! I believe there will be new conditions placed on travel that will be for the good of all, and I hope that – in this time of being apart – we are drawn more tightly into the great companionship that small group travel offers. Take a look at what some of our passengers had to say about traveling with us in 2020: Go to www.isualum.org/travel for links to our social media. Request our electronic travel newsletter, Cy’s Suitcase. To get on our mailing list, email Lainey at laineyc@iastate.edu Visit us online Go to www.isualum.org/travel2021 to learn more about each of our 2021 trips, request brochures, and more. Contact us at (515) 294-5775 (877) ISU-ALUM (478-2586)

• “The receptions provided great means to meet our fellow travelers. Since there were so many of us, our ISUAA host did a great job to provide additional opportunities to get together as we needed more time to meet each other.” Each time you return from a trip, we send out a survey that compiles information we can use to improve and enhance our trip selections. This is also where you have a chance to tell us where you would still like to go, and we are thankful that you always respond so clearly! This is a recent list that I love, because it starts with nowhere and ends with everywhere!

1. No plans at this time 2. Tahiti, Europe such as Scotland, Ireland, • “We travel on our own a lot, but decided that Switzerland, Spain, Eastern Mediterranean this would be a good opportunity to do a group 3. Spain, Portugal & Morocco, possibly Egypt. • “The trip was our first guided tour, and it far We would like most of this via land, though. exceeded our wildest dreams.” Eastern and Central Europe, including some of • “Our adventure in Australia and New Zealand the important sites factoring into the Holocaust was enhanced by the wonderful program and Jewish history. Japan. manager who made certain that everything ran 6. Costa Rica smoothly and all our needs were met! Amidst all 7. Everywhere the cruise ship passengers and crew, we always felt personally looked after!”

In 2021 we will go to nearly every one of those places listed above. We’ve chosen 58 trips for you to select from. We’re going back to Southeast Asia for the first time in several years as well as India and exotic Singapore and Bali. We’re journeying to Israel and the Holy Land and will visit Bavaria during the heart of Octoberfest and Japan during cherry blossom time. New this year are two multi-generational family trips: a land tour in Costa Rica and an Alaskan cruise with a Youth Explorer Program onboard. Grandparents and parents – grab the kids and make memories to last a lifetime! Past travelers will automatically receive a copy of a brochure for each trip in this catalog. If you haven’t had the pleasure of being a Traveling Cyclone, we encourage you to go online and request the brochures you would like. We will mail those to you once they are available, usually 6 to 11 months prior to departure. You can find the form and more information for each trip at www.isualum.org/travel. If you have questions, please call 515-294-9310 or 515-294-5775.

I am hopeful that you still have the same impulse to travel and that this 2021 list of trips will inspire and excite you. This year is undoubtedly going to look different for the tourism industry, and tour providers are going to need us now more than ever. While some things may change, we promise to provide the same great itineraries and will take care of all the details so you don’t have to worry. We want you to feel safe and secure when you travel so all you have to concentrate on is making memories and friendships.

You may also contact Lainey Crawford at (515) 294-5775 or laineyc@iastate.edu. Reservations are honored in order of receipt. WHAT IF I’M BOOKING JUST FOR MYSELF? Trip pricing is based on double occupancy, or two people sharing a room or cabin, unless specified by the “no single supplement” text. Many of the trips offered will require a single supplement for those who wish to travel alone. On most tours, a limited number of single rooms are available. We keep a database of single travelers and send out email requests to those looking for a roommate. Contact Heather or Lainey to be added to the list. WILL MY TOUR INCLUDE A HOST? A minimum number of participants is required to secure the services of an ISUAA host. We make every effort to send a host from our staff on as many departures as possible as we know this greatly enhances the travelers’ experience and makes the trip unique. Please note that our tour operators provide tour directors or program guides on every trip, and they do a fantastic job. Their goal, and ours, is to take great care of you and make sure you have the trip of a lifetime.

DO I HAVE TO BE IN GOOD PHYSICAL SHAPE TO TRAVEL? To enjoy the alumni travel experience, passengers must be in good physical and mental health and be able to keep pace with the group. Passengers requiring extraordinary help must be accompanied by an assistant who will provide all required aid. IF I CANCEL, WILL I GET A REFUND? Tour participants are subject to cancellation penalties as outlined in the individual trip brochures. Cancellation penalties are structured to coincide with advance payments that our tour operators must make to their suppliers, and the penalties are strictly enforced due to these contractual commitments. Because our tour operators have different cancellation policies, please make sure that you understand all cancellation penalties prior to making your trip deposit. We also highly encourage purchasing trip cancellation insurance. SHOULD I PURCHASE TRIP INSURANCE? We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance to ensure coverage in case of an illness, injury, medical evacuation, delay, or unforeseen emergency. For your convenience, the Alumni Association has partnered with USI Travel Insurance Services to provide insurance to our passengers. We suggest that you check with your medical insurance company to determine whether you are covered when traveling outside the United States. Details on the ISUAA’s travel insurance information are found at my.travelinsure.com/isuaa.
