Well, it is hard to believe it is time once again for many of our Canadian Snowbirds to make their exodus to their southern homes. Where did the time go? I hope everyone had a great summer, although it seemed a long time getting to us. The first Canadian Club dinner will be hosted by Kathy and Carl Marquis on Thursday, November 15th. For those who will be at Tara Woods, you will be treated to cedar plank salmon – sounds yummy. Contributions of salads, desserts or appetizers would be most welcome. Please let the Kathy and Carl know what you would like to bring.

If there are new Canadian Tara Woods residents, please forward your names and addresses to Brenda Redgers, bzztoy@hotmail.com, so I can update our mailing list. Looking forward to seeing all of you in the near future. Safe travels south. Our sympathies go out to Cookie Franks on the passing of Don. His humour and twinkling eyes will be missed. Also, to Richard Stonhill on the passing of his wife Carole. CANADIAN CLUB

I hope all persons in the Tara Woods community have returned safe and healthy and ready to begin another year of activities.

The get-together in October for the wine and cheese party was a great start for another year of fellowship.

The next Mid-Atlantic Social Club meeting date is Sunday, November 17th. Please note that our time has been changed to 5:00 PM due to a scheduling con ict. As temperatures cool and the time changes, we look forward to a potluck dinner. Watch for emails and newsletters for details. Add Saturday, November 30 th , at 9:00 AM, to your calendar for decorating the Clubhouse Christmas tree.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of Tara Woods from the Mid-Atlantic Social Club. Barb Pollitt, Secretary MID-ATLANTIC SOCIAL CLUB NEWS

Hello, Midwest Club! I can’t believe it’s already November. Many of us will be very busy from now until the end of the year.

At the meeting on October 11 th , volunteers were asked to provide and sell baked goods for the upcoming Craft Fair on Saturday, November 2 nd . All proceeds will be going to the Hearts & Homes For Veterans, Inc., such a wonderful way to

honor our vets. Those of you who have volunteered will have already received instructions on the procedures for that day.

The Friday, November 8 th meeting, will be a day that we will honor our veterans. Please bring your favorite soup, salad or dessert. The sign-up sheet will have been posted on the Clubhouse bulletin board with more information.

The Midwest Club will be hosting the annual Tara Woods Christmas Dinner this year. Music is to be provided by John Nichols from Mobile Music, the gentleman who entertained us at the Valentine’s Day Party. For dinner, we will be serving chicken alfredo, garden salad, garlic bread sticks, and cheesecake for dessert. Volunteers will be asked to help with many duties that are required to host a large party. The tickets will be sold for $12.00 per person, which will go on sale Saturday, November 9 th , at Saturday Morning Coffee and Tuesday Bingo until Tuesday, December 3 rd . Looking forward to a very festive evening.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!!

Welcome back to our Winter residents! On Thursday, November 7 th , the Computer Club will begin a new season of free computer classes for the owners, renters, and guests of Tara Woods. These are held at 10:30 AM every Thursday in the Card Room at the Clubhouse. They are open to everyone, and there is no membership fee.

Our normal schedule of classes resumes on Friday, December 6 th . The rst and third Thursday of each month are devoted to Computer Basics. This is a complete course on how to use your computer. The second and fourth Thursday are reserved for General subjects, and cover a single speci c topic of interest. If there is a fth Thursday in a month, it is an open question and answer session where you can ask me almost anything you want.

It’s never too late to join our group, even if you’re a total novice. This is a great time to learn the Basics; we are starting again at the very beginning and assume that you know nothing about computers. The General topics cover all sorts of subjects, programs, and hardware, including Windows, working with photos, multi-media, tablets, cell phones and e-book readers. We spend as much time as we need to on each topic, and the next topic to be covered is always posted on the bulletin board in the Clubhouse. Feel free to attend only those classes that appeal to you. Bring something to take notes with, and your laptop computer if you want to follow along on it. I will answer any question you care to ask me. I also give private lessons and set up or repair computers in your home. I’ve been designing, programming, repairing, teaching, and working with computers since 1968, and can help you with all of your computer needs. Please call me with any questions or comments at 652-0488. I’m looking forward to seeing you

So, Ladies and Gentlemen...it is November and our rehearsals (Monday and Thursday, except the 28 th ) are coming along. This year’s offering will be one funny play, “She Was Only Marginally Modest or Have You No Shame”. This year our actors are stretching themselves, and they will be all the better for this effort. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Speaking of being better for it, life in Tara Woods is better because we make it so. If you wake each day and moan about your life, most likely your day will go just like that. What a better world if each day we woke, got out of bed and were glad. There are plenty of things to complain about and nd fault with, but there are also many things to be pleased about. Put a smile on your face, say hello and wave to your fellow Tara-ites. Will this change your life? No, not unless you want it to. So how about we all try to stretch ourselves and try something new, then maybe we will all be the better for it. And who knows, you might even get the urge to join the Entertainers and really stretch yourself.

Reminder to all members and interested parties – November 16 th Entertainers Meeting after Saturday Morning Coffee.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH The two primary reasons for the WATCH are the protection of our residents and the observation of our community. Check on your neighbors who may be housebound or ill. If you haven’t seen them for a while, check on them.If you see something out of the ordinary, call and report the problem. (911 or 239-477-1000) THIS MONTHS TIPS: Enjoy your winter here in Tara Woods. Beware of anyone asking for your personal information that you have not contacted. Remember your bank will not ask for your information via email. Never give out your SS#. Do not deal with a vendor over the internet unless you have checked them out. Bob Glandorf Neighborhood Watch Happy Fall to everyone in our Tara Woods Community and to the snowbirds nally arriving back. A quick reminder, November leaves us with 55 days until Christmas and 61 days until the New Year 2020. Let’s talk Turkey and let me put my paws in gear – don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour on November 3 rd , as I stated last month. Remember the old saying “Fall back – Spring ahead”.

Other than setting our clocks back this month, we want to acknowledge Veterans Day, Monday, November 11 th . Thank you for your service. Some places honor Veterans with a free meal. One of my favorite places who honors Vets this way is at your local Golden Coral (Ft. Myers, Cape Coral and Punta Gorda), after 5:00 PM. Check your website, TV news, and local newspapers for more information and other places who honor Veterans in some way.

If you are wondering what the difference is between Veterans Day and Memorial Day here is a quick feedback. True, Memorial Day and Veterans Day are both patriotic holidays honoring the military, but there is a difference between them. Memorial Day falls on the last Monday in May which honors the men and women who died while serving in the military. We recognize these American Patriots who have made the ultimate sacri ce while protecting and defending our country they deeply loved. As we well know, Veterans Day is always observed on November 11 th . VeteransDay recognizes all who have served in the Armed Forces. On Memorial Day, we honor our fallen heroes by attending services, laying owers and placing ags on graves. VeteransDay is the opportunity to do the same, but it’s also an appropriate time to show your appreciation to their friends and family by ying the American Flag. “Thank you for your service.”

I also want to address the brief history on Veterans Day. Veterans Day was rst celebrated on November 11 th , 1919 to commemorate the end of World War I. Hostilities formally ended at the 11 th hour of the 11 th day of the 11 th month of 1918. This is when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. It was known as “Armistice Day” until SHILOH SPEAKS

1954 when it changed to VeteransDay. Once again “Thank you for your service.”

As we well know, November has another holiday that brings family and friends together – Thanksgiving. This year Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 28 th . You know what that means? IT’S TURKEY TIME! Boy, am I looking forward to Thanksgiving! Yummy! Turkey with all the stuf ng and xings. Oh yeah! I guess I’ll share if you really want me too. But as we all know, we make way too much so I know I’ll get some of the leftovers. But please, no bones. Don’t eat too much turkey.

Well, my time is up for this segment of Shiloh Speaks. Just a quick reminder to pick up after us at our Dog Park, and around our community of Tara Woods. Respect IT!

To end this segment, my Thanksgiving prayer for my fellow four-footed furry friends and their owners on this Thanksgiving Day:

A DOG IS GOD’S WAY OF PROVING HE DOESN’T WANT US TO WALK ALONE.

Happy Tails. Shiloh

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THESE ARE USED FOR?

TENNIS ASSOCIATION

Kathy and I are looking forward to getting to our home in Tara Woods. The weather in Northern Minnesota is getting chillier by the day. We have the wood stove going every morning to take the chill out of the house.

I hope everyone is ready for the new tennis season. As I mentioned in the October issue, the rst Round Robin of the season is Sunday, November 24 th – it will be good exercise before the Thanksgiving holiday.

The snacks during the Round Robin will be provided by Fred Puhlfuerst, Kathy Rafferty, and Gail Stewig. The dinner, which is served at 5:00 PM, will be hosted by Frank and Carole Neveu. Following the dinner we will have our rst Tennis Association Meeting which starts at 5:45 PM.

As I’ve said before, anyone with an interest in tennis is invited to join the Tennis Association – beginner to experienced tennis players and everyone in between. This is an all-inclusive group. Don’t be shy; you will be more than welcome to join us for a little fun and camaraderie.

See you on the courts, which are re nished and ready for play. – Roger Rafferty TENNIS LEAGUES

We hope you are ready to cheer on all of our tennis teams as you show your support for your Tara Woods friends. WOMEN’S LEAGUE WOMEN’S TEAM – ANGELS

If the tentative league schedule is approved, the Tara Woods Angels should begin their league play on Thursday, November 14 th , with an away game at Herons Glen.

The team practices are on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM.

The league schedule will be posted on the Tennis Bulletin Board as soon as it is nalized. We hope you will come out to watch us play and show your support for the Tara Woods women’s team. – Linda Engel MEN’S LEAGUE WHITE TEAM – STALLIONS

We hope that everyone had an enjoyable summer. The Tara Woods Tigers are excited to start the 2019-2020 tennis season. We are hoping for a fun and injury-free season, complete with success for all Tara Woods teams. The captains’ meeting for all the league teams is scheduled for October 28th and team play will commence soon after. GO TIGERS! – Al Dion / Mike O’Hearn BLUE TEAM – MUSTANGS

No tennis information to report at this time. – Mike Renzulli ROUND ROBINS

Our new 2019-2020 season is ready to start. Welcome back to all the returnees and those who are on the way.

The rst Tennis Association event is scheduled for Sunday, November 24 th . Please check the bulletin board at the tennis courts to sign up for this season’s activities. Round Robin pairings will be posted before the play time. We expect to have fun times with the members and any others who may want to join us. As you know, new members are always welcome.

Also, team events will also be starting this month. Be sure to check the schedules and come out to support the league players and their team play. We have three men’s teams and one women’s team which compete in area leagues.

Looking forward to another successful Tara Woods tennis season. – Dale Holat Submitted by Linda Engel TENNIS NEWS
