The Islands of Tahiti possess a magic that makes them a genuine bucket list destination.

The allure begins with the natural environment. Towering volcanic peaks rise from the deep Pacific Ocean. These are surrounded by crystal-clear lagoons that radiate a neon shade of azure, home to vibrant coral reef and a real-life aquarium of marine creatures.

Flawless beaches and bays fringe the coast, tempting visitors at every turn. Inland, lush rainforests cloak the interior of many islands, with trails winding through dense vegetation, leading to cascading waterfalls and serene pools. Fragrant blooms of hibiscus and tiare abound, and the rhythmic rustling of coconut palms sway in the tropical breeze.

The Islands of Tahiti are also home to a rich culture woven from ancient Polynesian traditions, mixed with more recent French influences. Rooted deeply in the ethos of their ancestors, the Polynesian way of life places a strong emphasis on community, family ties, and respect for nature. Oral traditions preserve the region's history, with stories, legends, and myths passed down through generations.

The islands’ cuisine combines Polynesian ingredients with French culinary techniques. Breadfruit, coconut, and fish, staples of the Polynesian diet, are often paired with French sauces and preparations, creating a unique fusion of flavours.

Against this picture postcard backdrop come a myriad of activities that can be enjoyed by visitors.

Water-based activities attract enthusiasts from across the globe. The crystalclear lagoons are perfect for snorkelling and diving, where visitors can get up close with coral reefs, manta rays, and schools of tropical fish. Surfers can ride world-renowned waves, while those preferring a calmer experience can opt for paddleboarding or kayaking in serene lagoon waters. Deep-sea fishing offers the thrill of catching marlin and tuna, and sailing between the islands provides breathtaking views that can't be seen any other way. Nature lovers and adventure seekers can hike trails, leading to waterfalls, ancient archaeological sites, and panoramic lookouts.

In total, this vast South Pacific paradise is home to a staggering 118 islands which are divided into 5 geographical groups – Society Islands, Marquesas Islands, Tuamotu Archipelago, Gambier Islands, and the Austral Islands. Each offers its unique allure and charm, meaning there are virtually endless opportunities to explore. Here, we focus on the most frequented destinations which sit within the Society Islands - the iconic Islands of Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora, and the lessvisited landscapes of Raiatea, Tahaa, and Huahine. While there's much more to French Polynesia than just these islands, we provide you with a glimpse into the heart of this mesmerising region.

Society Islands The Society Islands, including Tahiti, Bora Bora, and Moorea, are the epitome of South Pacific paradise. With lush mountainous landscapes, turquoise lagoons, and overwater bungalows, these islands offer a luxurious escape. Tahiti, the largest island, serves as the vibrant hub of French Polynesia, blending traditional Polynesian culture with modern sophistication.

Tuamotu Islands Renowned for its expansive coral atolls and vibrant marine life, the Tuamotu Archipelago is a diver's paradise. With countless motus (small islets) surrounded by crystal-clear waters, visitors can explore world-class diving and snorkelling sites. The untouched, serene beauty of the Tuamotu Islands offers an authentic Polynesian experience off the beaten path. These atolls are flat and offer a stark contrast to the mountainous Marquesas and Society Islands.

Gambier Islands Sitting in the remote southeastern corner of French Polynesia, the Gambier Islands provide a retreat into a slower way of life. Exuding an enchanting charm, this archipelago is known for its historical sites, including ancient churches and ruins, showcasing a blend of Polynesian and European influences. The lush landscapes and friendly local communities make the Gambier Islands a captivating off-thebeaten-track destination.

Marquesas Islands Raw and unspoiled, the Marquesas Islands are perfect for adventurous travellers who seek untamed beauty and cultural authenticity far from the usual tourist trails.

Rugged landscapes, towering volcanic peaks, and deep valleys characterise this remote archipelago. Home to some of the world's most ancient tiki sculptures, the Marquesas provide a unique blend of natural wonders and Polynesian heritage.

They are also famous for their wood carving and distinct tattoos.

Austral Islands Cooler and rugged, the Austral Islands are a cultural haven located in the southernmost archipelago in French Polynesia. These islands offer a quieter, more intimate experience, with lush green landscapes, traditional Polynesian villages, and archaeological sites. The Austral Islands are a haven for those seeking a tranquil escape, far from the bustling tourist hotspots.

Beyond the beach While The Islands of Tahiti are known for their world-class underwater experiences, there’s plenty to do on-land as well. Take, for instance, the ethno-botanic tour offered by Vanilla Tours on Taha'a island. This 4-wheel drive journey unveils lush valleys, panoramic viewpoints, and a behind-the-scenes look at vanilla plantations.

On Moorea, the pineapple trail also provides a fascinating adventure. While it's not a sealed road, it can be accessed via ATV, quad, bicycle, or even by walking. This trail connects the island's big bays: Cook and Opunohu. Along the way, you'll encounter a few homes, but as the name suggests, you'll traverse a pineapple farm. These pineapples are cultivated for the Rotui juice production facility situated near Mount Rotui and are also available in local stores.

Tahitian Guesthouses, typically family-operated, allow travellers to immerse themselves in a genuinely authentic experience. In fact, guests at these Tahitian Guesthouses often form close bonds with the host family and the local community members they meet.

Opting to stay at a pension not only provides visitors with deeper insights into Tahitian culture but also fosters a profound connection to the island's stunning environment. Guests at pensions frequently enjoy communal meals, benefit from the hosts' local knowledge, and can even be guided on island adventures like pearl diving, snorkelling, and hiking. An aquatic wonderland Surrounded by azure lagoons, vibrant reefs, and the vast Pacific Ocean, The Islands of Tahiti are quite simply, a paradise for underwater enthusiasts.

Best of all, it’s easy to grab a snorkel and fins, and explore the waters from a beach or your resort. If you’d prefer a more extensive underwater experience, you can always join a snorkelling day tour. Local operators Moana Voyages have a unique 4-hour experience led by a marine biologist. They’ll take you through the crystal-clear waters of Moorea, offering an ‘a la carte’ style tour where guests select preferred options from five exciting activities: whale and dolphin swims, reef snorkelling, a journey into the big blue, shark and ray encounters, and underwater flying.

If you're after an extraordinary, multi-day ocean adventure, Majestic Whale Encounters, an Australian-led tour operator, offers whale swimming tours. These immersive experiences allow you to swim alongside these magnificent creatures, creating memories that last a lifetime.

For diving enthusiasts, the lesser-known islands of Tahiti offer some of the world’s most spectacular dive sites. Whether it’s swimming with manta rays in Huahine with Mahana Dive, exploring the waters of Rangiroa with Topdive, where dolphins and marlins are common companions, or encountering walls of sharks in the UNESCOdesignated biosphere of Fakarava with O2 Fakarava, these world-class underwater experiences will be a true lifetime highlight.

The world's largest marine sanctuary The Islands of Tahiti are also a global leader in marine conservation. Since 1996, Tahiti has reserved its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) exclusively for the Polynesian fishing fleet and banned any fishing methods other than line fishing. This commitment has ensured that no fishing licenses are sold outside French Polynesia, and industrial fishing remains strictly prohibited. 2002 also marked a significant milestone with the establishment of a marine mammal sanctuary, protecting whales and dolphins in these pristine waters. This includes strict rules around interactions with these species.

Connecting with local culture It’s understandable that visitors fall in love with Tahiti’s natural surroundings. But behind ‘the place’ are a people with a vibrant Polynesian culture. And visitors who take the time to connect with these age-old traditions, will be rewarded with a deeper travel experience.

For those seeking a deeper understanding of Tahiti and its history, there are a number of museums that offer a treasure trove of knowledge and insights. Musée De Tahiti Et Des Îles in Tahiti and Écomusée – Te Fare Natura in Moorea are a good place to start. Visitors can also engage with the island's past at cultural centres like the ‘Arioi Center and the Tamaeva Cultural Center, where the ancient practices and seafaring heritage of the Mā’ohi, the ancestors of modern Polynesians, are brought to life.

Surf's up in Tahiti Tahiti is renowned for the formidable Teahupoo surf break, a staple on the World Surf League. This testing (and sometimes terrifying) break will be in the global spotlight next year when it hosts the Paris 2024 Olympics. No doubt, Teahupoo's waves will present an Olympic-level challenge to competitors, and it promises to be an exhilarating spectacle for fans in Tahiti, visitors and a global audience.

While Teahupoo and similar shallow reefs across all The Islands of Tahiti offer seasoned surfers a supreme challenge, the northern side of Tahiti provides a beginner-friendly alternative – with much more forgiving black sand beaches.

Here, Julien Miremont, owner and head coach of Taie Fa'ahe'e Surf School, dedicates his days to teaching both local novices and international visitors eager for their first surfing experience.

“Surfing might take a lifetime to master, but starting with solid basics can make the journey easier. It’s about spending quality time in the water and gradually building confidence,” explains Julien.

The east side of Tahiti, known for its reef breaks, is not suitable for beginners, but it’s an ideal playground for experienced surfers looking to challenge themselves.

These spots, accessible only by boat, benefit immensely from Julien's deep local knowledge. He not only ensures safe access to these prime locations but also offers in-water coaching, helping surfers capture the essence of a quintessential Tahitian wave.

18 holes in paradise Playing golf probably isn’t the first thing that springs to mind when you think of The Islands of Tahiti, but on Moorea you’ll find a premium, championship golf course designed by living legend Jack Nicklaus. Jack has designed close to 300 courses around the world, but the Moorea Green Pearl Golf Course remains the only one in the South Pacific.

Among those 300 or so, it’s debatable whether Jack had a more striking canvas to work with. Sitting aside the clear lagoon waters of Tamae Bay, the course is set over two distinct landscapes. The ‘oceanside’ holes include the whole front nine and four holes of the back nine. While the terrain is gently undulating, the presence of Jack’s fairway bunkers makes each hole a challenge.

Like the island itself, the club has a relaxed feel. Visiting golfers are always welcome and while the course can be busy on the weekends (when golfers from Tahiti pop over for a round), during the week you’ll be able to get on the course without any trouble. Just call or email ahead to check if the club is running a tournament or club day. And if they are, you can always join in.

If you don’t fancy lugging your golf gear to Tahiti, the club has a well-equipped pro shop with quality hire clubs, golf buggys and everything else you could want. You may even like to get a lesson from the local pro. To top it all off, the clubhouse is home to an excellent restaurant. And of course there’s a full bar serving (muchneeded) post-round beverages.

Food Tours: Tempt your tastebuds Tahiti is celebrated for its pristine beaches and azure waters, but it’s also a hidden gem for foodies. The island's cuisine is a delightful fusion of its cultural influences, blending Tahitian, Chinese, and French culinary traditions. From the fresh seafood caught in the clear blue waters to exotic fruits harvested from its fertile lands, Tahiti offers a gastronomic journey that will tantalise the palate.

While visitors can embark on a culinary adventure on their own – opting for a guided tour is a fantastic choice for those wanting to go straight to the standout eating spots!

Tahiti Food Tours is a local operator founded by chef Heimata Hall. With two distinct tour offerings, this local enterprise promises an immersive gastronomic experience.

The Moorea Tama’a Street Food Tour invites attendees on a flavorsome journey, sampling a wide array of local dishes ranging from succulent fish preparations to delectable treats like pai and mape. Must Try Dishes Poisson Cru All the Pacific Islands have their variation of raw fish, and in Tahiti it’s called Poisson Cru. It’s a ceviche-style fish served with coconut milk and vegetables. As well as being delicious – this dish is light, refreshing and the perfect snack on a hot, tropical day.

Chevrettes Another mouth-watering entrée, local chevrettes featuring king prawns, often cooked in a rich coconut sauce infused with local spices like vanilla. (YUM)

Poulet Fafa Poulet fafa is chicken with taro leaves and is often cooked in the traditional ahima’a (an oven dug underground covered with coconut husks).

Sustainable Travel: Play your part Every traveller has the power to make a positive impact on the destinations they visit.

Keep plastic to a minimum Consider bringing your own reusable bag with you. Even better, purchase a locally-made bag – a sustainable and memorable souvenir from your journey.

Use coral-friendly sunscreen Opt for coral-safe sunscreens when taking a dip. Ensure your sunscreen is mineral-based and free from harmful chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which can damage corals. A tell-tale sign of a reef-friendly sunscreen is the presence of zinc oxide or titanium oxide among its top ingredients.

Support local artisans If you want to bring something home, purchase souvenirs labelled "Made in Fenua". By doing so, you're supporting local artisans and helping preserve their rich cultural craftsmanship.

Get on a Bike!

Exploring The Islands of Tahiti on an e-bike is an eco-friendly way to discover breathtaking landscapes, while minimising your carbon footprint. Either hire an e-bike or take one of many e-bike tours.

Look, but don’t touch If you’re in the water, admire the corals, but from a distance. Refrain from touching or collecting them, as they're not only delicate but also vital habitats for marine species.

Discover Tahiti by Sea One of the most memorable ways to explore Tahiti is by sea. As a rule, the ships cruising Tahiti are smaller, i.e. they’re not mega-liners carrying thousands of passengers. This makes for a much more intimate experience, and it means that ships can sail into areas that can’t be accessed by the big boats.

Paul Gauguin Cruises Paul Gauguin has been sailing the South Pacific since 1998. With a capacity for 332 passengers, this ship's journey from Tahiti to Bora Bora features a special stop at the private isle of Motu Mahana. A trip on the Paul Gauguin is a blend of romance and thrill. Its spacious cabins, attentive service (boasting a 2-to-3 crew-topassenger ratio), local cultural experiences, and an extensive array of activities.

Aranui Cruises Aranui Cruises, the pioneering cruise company in French Polynesia, has showcased the Marquesas Islands to avid explorers for over three decades. Their vessel, the Aranui 5, launched in 2015, is a bespoke passenger-freighter. It blends the luxury of a cruise ship with the utility of cargo service. Itineraries include an 11-night Discover the Marquesas Cruise, 10-night Voyage to the Austral Islands Cruise, and 11-night Pitcairn and Gambier Cruise.

Other Cruise Lines Windstar Cruises is another cruise line that sits firmly in the small, luxury ship category (their ships serve between 148 and 342 guests). Many visitors to Tahiti will recognise the distinctive sails of Wind Spirit Sailing Yacht. A decade of diversity On July 8th, 2013, Tahiti was the location of the region's first gay marriage. This occasion didn’t just signal a legislative shift, but reflected the local community's values of inclusivity, acceptance, and warmth towards all, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity. Spanning over 3,500 square kilometres in the South Pacific, The Islands of Tahiti might seem remote, but reaching and exploring them is surprisingly straightforward. Direct flights from Auckland to Papeete, lasting under five hours, connect New Zealand to this paradise with ease. Niue

Agents fall in love with Niue Niue Tourism recently launched a self-famil programme for agents travelling up to the end of March and sold over 40 packages for these agents to experience Niue for themselves. There has been some amazing feedback to date. Two groups of travel professionals also attended a hosted famil to Niue, and each one has left with heartfelt memories and plans to return to the island paradise. Sarah Porter, a New Zealand-based Niue Specialist, said the 20 travel professionals and media who joined her fell in love with Niue and experienced much of what the island had to offer.

“They returned to New Zealand exhausted but with full hearts and plenty of memories. From fishing to snorkelling to scuba diving, to exploring and enjoying many of the island’s sea tracks and chasms, they also had the chance to meet many of the local operators and have formed some lovely connections on both professional and personal levels.” The famil groups were perfectly timed, just ahead of the announcement of Niue’s second flight from April 2024. “I am confident these travel professionals will sell Niue to the right type of visitor – the active relaxers who want unique memories. On top of this, many have already planned and booked their own personal trips back to Niue."

Adventure events back on the start line Events are back on the calendar in Niue with the Rockman Adventure Race Week relaunching in November after a forced hiatus during COVID-19. These are great for anyone into adventure races, running, or mountain biking in a very relaxed and social environment.

Extra flight a huge boost for tourism Fantastic news for Niue with confirmation that Air New Zealand is reintroducing a twice-weekly service departing from Auckland on Tuesdays and Saturdays, starting from 2 April 2024. Demand for the destination has continued to grow throughout 2023. This was initially recognised with the provision of a larger aircraft for the weekly flight, which was later expanded to a seasonal twice-weekly service from November to the end of January.

Director of Tourism, Micah Fuhiniu-Viviani, added, “we are absolutely thrilled with the announcement of the second air service starting from April 2024. This really does complement the hard work our team and the wider tourism industry have put in over this last winter, where not only was the demand to travel to Niue at an all-time high, but the satisfaction levels of our visitors were off the charts. We appreciate the commitment Air New Zealand has shown to Niue in acknowledging this and making the flight a fixture for 2024."

Niue’s near perfect satisfaction stats A new satisfaction survey of visitors has been running for a few months now, accessible through the free airport Wi-Fi for departing passengers, and has gathered some very positive data.

A staggering 99.5% of visitors would recommend Niue to others!

98% have said they would return to Niue in the future. The overall rating of their experience in Niue is 4.5 out of 5, noting that 90% of those surveyed scored it as 'very good' or 'great' – no one rated it poor!

For a moderate walk that mixes ancient archaeological sites and spectacular views of the northeast coastline, take the Lower Sauma Ridge Trail.

If you’re up for more of a challenge, take the 9km Mount Alava Adventure Trail.

You’ll head along ridgelines with views of the north and central parts of the national park and island. You’ll hike up and down ladders with ropes for balance. The trail leads to Mount Alava Summit, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic view out across the island, before you return down another steep section of trail to Vatia Village. Disney makes maiden voyage Disney Cruise Line embarked on its maiden voyage to the shores of American Samoa in October, creating an unforgettable experience for its passengers. Jetstar increases direct Sydney flights More positive news for the Cook Islands. Jetstar has announced an increase in non-stop flights from Sydney to Rarotonga. The airline already operates three flights a week. With the introduction of new flights starting from 27 March next year, the schedule will include flights on Tuesday, Wednesday (from next year), Friday (from 3 November), and Sunday each week. Graeme West, General Manager Australasia Cook Islands Tourism, commented, “This news reflects the growing demand we've observed from Australians keen on holidaying in the Cook Islands. We're thrilled that Jetstar is expanding its flight offerings, making travel to our islands even more accessible for Australians.”

Charlotte Piho picks up prestigious award In late October, Cook Islands-based photographer Charlotte Piho received one of New Zealand's most celebrated photographic honours, the NZ Geographic Photographer of the Year award in the Wildlife category.

Charlotte also achieved recognition as the New Zealand Photographer of the Year – People's Choice (Ockham Residential People’s Choice Award).

Bags are tagged and securely transported to the airport, and boarding passes are issued on the spot. Upon arrival at the airport, guests can proceed directly to security and immigration, i.e. NO check-in queues.

Sofitel Fiji's grand extension begins Exciting news for Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa at Denarau. Construction has begun on an expansive extension, set for completion in three years. This extension, named Vatu Talei (The Jewel), will add 190 rooms and suites. Situated to the left of the current resort's entrance, Vatu Talei will comprise three structures, including nine-storey and four-storey buildings with rooftop pools and bars, plus a three-tiered low-rise. Top floors promise sea views, while the base offers direct access to an expansive pool, featuring a lazy river. Michael Nacola of Richmond Ltd stated this pool would be four times larger than any in Fiji! While Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, present at the groundbreaking, labelled the project as “ambitious but achievable”. We look forward to seeing the progress.

Surf League returns to Fiji The World Surf League, in collaboration with the Fiji Government, has announced the return of Fiji to the Championship Tour schedule in 2024.

The world's top surfers will compete at the famous left reef, Cloudbreak.

After a hiatus of seven years, the event will take place from August 20 to 29. The 2024 Fiji Pro will welcome back the top 24 male and 12 female surfers to Cloudbreak - the return is facilitated by a three-year collaboration between the WSL and the Fiji Government. 11-time World Champion Kelly Slater shared his enthusiasm, "Having the contest back at Cloudbreak is exhilarating. All participating surfers have missed Fiji, and those who haven't experienced it yet eagerly await their turn. The entire surfing community has felt its absence, so a heartfelt 'vinaka vakalevu’ for welcoming us back."

Maui Recovery Update It's coming up 4 months since the devastating wildfires of Maui, and the recovery progress is mixed. Lahaina Town was destroyed, and slow progress has been made on the cleanup. Since August 16, over 7,500 displaced survivors have been relocated to 29 hotels and hundreds of Airbnbs in Maui.

Maui’s tourism recovery has been moving at a sluggish pace since the wildfires, with tourists being slow to return out of sensitivity to locals. In a September 8 press conference, Hawaii Governor Josh Green said West Maui would be open to tourists again on October 8, two months after the fire started. Only Lahaina—the area that took the most damage—will be closed off to the public.

The Hawaii Tourism Authority launched a campaign on August 21 called Mālama Maui, which means “to protect, nurture, and care for.”

The campaign aims to attract travellers to the accessible areas of Maui, including Kahului, Wailuku, Kīhei, Wailea, Mākena, Pā'ia, Makawao, and Hāna, as well as the other Hawaiian Islands of Kaua'i, O'ahu, Lāna'i, Moloka'i, and Hawai'i Island.

“What we're looking out for are those people who have not booked yet, making sure that they know Maui is open, travel to the island is encouraged, and that respectful, responsible, and compassionate travel will help Maui recover,” said Ilihia Gionson, public affairs officer of the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

Sheraton Deva welcomes new kitchen duo Sheraton Deva Spa and Golf Resort has always boasted first-class dining options. To further enhance their culinary offerings, the resort has recently welcomed Thomas Le Bouler as Executive Chef and Cyril Nicolai as Pastry Chef.

Thomas, a graduate of the French gastronomy school Ferrandi Paris, has a passion for innovating with local cuisine. He has honed his creativity and techniques working in France and Canada. Thomas has previously worked at another Marriott hotel, Le Méridien Ile des Pins.

Cyril, trained as a pastry chef and baker, also bring fresh and inventive ideas and techniques from his global travels. He has had stints in France, India, and the Caribbean before moving to New Caledonia two years ago. Both chefs will contribute their expertise to the various outlets of Sheraton Deva, introducing new menus for an enhanced gastronomic experience!

Rendez-Vous 2023: Kiwi wholesalers discover a slice of paradise New Zealand's travel wholesalers recently had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the charm of New Caledonia. This experience was part of the Rendez-Vous Workshop 2023, hosted by New Caledonia Tourism and national carrier Aircalin. The event, held on Lifou Island, welcomed participants from various markets, including Australia, Singapore, Japan, and France, alongside Kiwi wholesalers.

In the days leading up to the workshop, attendees were immersed in a range of famil activities, offering them a firsthand taste of this enchanting Frenchflavoured paradise. The workshop itself featured 'speed dating' style meetings with local industry partners, cultural experiences, and site visits to upcoming and established resorts like the Intercontinental Lifou Wadra Bay Resort and Le Meridien Noumea. Participants enjoyed a mix of Melanesian culinary delights, traditional Kanak dance performances, and explored Noumea's rich history.

This initiative is part of New Caledonia Tourism's efforts to increase visitor numbers from New Zealand. 2023 has seen a notable rise in Kiwi travellers to the island, outpacing pre-pandemic figures. This growth in tourism highlights New Caledonia's appeal as a nearby paradise offering a blend of natural beauty, unique culture, and French culinary influence.

Aircalin celebrates 40 years of flying To mark four decades of connecting New Caledonia to the world, Aircalin has celebrated its 40th anniversary by introducing a new motto - “New Caledonia, it’s in our nature”. The statement reflects Aircalin’s ongoing commitment to social and environmental issues associated with aviation and as an employer. A new brand campaign will share their message of being respectful to people and the planet. This includes a video clip titled "Flower in the Sky," which will play onboard Aircalin aircraft and on social media channels. Well done, Aircalin! Forty years is a fantastic achievement, and we wish you all the best for 40 more!

Remembering the life of Robert Louis Stevenson Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, known for books like "Treasure Island," had a special connection with Samoa. Born in Edinburgh, Stevenson chose writing over a career in engineering or law, his family's professions.

He travelled a lot to help with his tuberculosis – spending time in California, Switzerland, Scotland, and England. In England, he wrote "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."

When his health got worse, he went to New York, then sailed the South Seas, and finally settled in Samoa at a place that is now the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum. Stevenson was loved in Samoa, where he kept writing until he died at 44. He's buried on a hill with sea views. Today, his old house in Samoa is a museum with free entry. It's close to Apia, and shows his work and family items. It's been open to the public since 1994 and makes for a fascinating visit.

Triumph for Tropical Tours Tropical Tours was awarded the Private Tour Company in Samoa for 2023 by the Travel & Hospitality Awards, a United Kingdom-based program that globally recognises the best hotels, tour operators, and experience providers amongst many other services within the tourism sector.

Trudy and Jimmy O’Dwyer’s journey has not been easy. Before their company even got off the ground, Covid-19 forced them to shut down.

The award, according to Mr O’Dwyer means so much to him, especially since the work he is passionate about also resonates well with others.

“I was very overwhelmed with gratitude that Tropical Tours Samoa was selected as ‘The Private Tour company of the year in Samoa’ winner by the Travel & Hospitality Awards 2023. Tropical Tours were so honoured to receive the recognition for this award, and we were both very humble to be nominated for this category,” he added.

The O’Dwyers acknowledged it was challenging during COVID-19 but they managed to hold on which made them more determined to get the operation back up to showcase Beautiful Samoa.

Air Vanuatu expands to four Auckland flights Kiwi travellers now have more flexibility to enjoy Vanuatu. From November 2, 2023, Air Vanuatu increased the frequency of flights between Auckland and Port Vila – expanding the service to four times weekly. Under the new schedule, flights will depart from Auckland on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Return flights from Port Vila are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. With a flight duration of just 3 hours and 15 minutes between Auckland and Port Vila, the revised schedule is perfect for Kiwis wanting a easy weekend getaway.
