“Hello everybody! I am Kris. I work for a sewing and knitting magazine, but have never learned to sew.” That was my introduction to a two-day sewing boot camp. One that was greeted with much hilarity by all my fellow course participants: a group of enthusiastic ladies ... and one courageous man. Just like me, he was completely out of his comfort zone. Hats off!

And so it happened. To me, everything was new. Even the basics of operating a sewing machine. I learned a lot in just two days. That sewing is something that requires meticulousness and a great deal of patience, for instance. And that it involves hundreds of tiny little pins and takes lots of cutting and ironing. Plus: making clothes together creates a wonderful bond between people.

I was constantly amazed. Particularly when seams lined up perfectly, zip closures moved up and down smoothly, and the outfit I made fit me like a glove. This amazement produced an absolute ‘wow’ effect. Wow, I am proud because I can sew a little now. And wow, can all those Fibre Mood sewistas sew well!
