Take some time to get to know us Who we are Isabel Hospice has been providing free palliative care to its patients and their families across eastern Hertfordshire for forty years. We support patients and their families who are living with life-limiting illnesses, including heart failure or respiratory illness, neurological conditions, such as motor neurone disease, and cancer. We help people to live pain-and symptom-free so they can make the most of the time they have left, and to die with dignity in the place of their choice knowing their loved ones are supported. Demand for our life-changing, compassionate care has never been higher. However, Covid-19 presented a number of critical challenges and we had to adapt quickly, making substantial changes to the way we deliver our care so we could continue to be there for some of the most vulnerable people in our community. One thing has remained constant: the dedication of our expert nursing, medical and support teams, who have been unwavering in their care of local people who are nearing the end of their lives, and their bereaved loved ones. All of our services are free of charge to those who need them, but they are not without cost, meaning we must raise £7 million every year to guarantee the future of our care. Whether it’s fundraising, volunteering, sponsorship or even offering your professional expertise, we are grateful for your time and interest with us. Charity of choice? Charity of the Year? You decide!

Your local hospice services Our life-changing care helps families make the most of every moment, at the point when life is most precious.

Living Well with Isabel supports patients to deal with the physical and psychological effects of their condition and improve their daily quality of life. Our Compassionate Neighbours provide assistance to those struggling with social isolation.

Our community team manages our helpline and provides consultations and specialist palliative care knowledge and support to patients at home living with a life-limiting diagnosis.

The In-Patient Unit provides 24-hour medical and nursing care to patients when they have distressing or complex symptoms which cannot be managed at home.

Our Hospice at Home team works alongside local GPs and District Nursing teams to offer specialist palliative nursing care and support in a patient’s place of residence, often avoiding the need for admission to hospital.

The Family Support service offers practical counselling, and emotional and social support to patients, carers, family and friends, which continues throughout illness into bereavement.

In their own

words

Our supporters talk about their experiences “Some of our staff have already seen first-hand how the Hospice has provided comfort to their family and friends. The sad reality is that many more are likely to go through the same experiences at some point in their life. As a large local employer, we are thrilled to be supporting a local charity that means so much to our staff and local community.”

“We are privileged to be able to support Isabel Hospice. The outstanding work the staff do to improve the lives of so many is truly remarkable. We will continue to support this amazing charity wherever possible.” “From day one, we wanted charity initiatives to be a key part of our brand, positioning us as the reliable and ethical organisation that we aimed to become. This ethos has given us the opportunity to support various local school events, local children’s football teams and also identify a local charity that aligns with our values. Giving Isabel a small percentage of our sales doesn’t affect our day-to-day finances but is a great way to support little and often, and give something back.” “We have been providing support to a wide range of local causes for over 20 years. During this time, we have made a variety of tax-efficient charity donations including money, equipment, trading stock and employee time.” “Following a staff nomination and voting process, five charity partners including Isabel Hospice were selected to work with for the next three years!”

“Our relationship with Isabel Hospice began in the late 90s, when our founder had a close friend whose wife was being helped by the Hospice. We will always be grateful for the care they provided, and do what we can to help support Isabel events and our own fundraising ventures.”
