Læsø "Isle of Hlér" is the largest island in the North Sea bay of Kattegat,off the northeast coast of the Jutland Peninsula, Denmark. It is an example of sustainable island living, maintaining its stable population with both tourism and small scale industry. Læsø has a rich history. Mentions of the island appear in Norse mythology and through Danish naval history. Island life has had profound affects on the social and historical development of Læsø as the devisions of labor and reliance on church and state changed differently from mainland Denmark. Denmark

Boutique fishing and shrimp farming is the only significant export from Læsø, a range of tourist activities have developed from the previous historical activities on Læsø 1 : 100 000
The well educated LÌsøkid
Woman and Man, mother and father.
The men on LÌsø often went to sea. They left the women on the island with responsibility for the farm and chrildren.
For the women who took care of the farm, education of her children was also extremely important. The chrildren got schooling and was just as well-educated as wealthy kids from the mainland. UNIVERSITY
Island of Women
In the Poetic Edda poem Hárbarðsljóð the god Thor comments that is was on Læsø he was attacked by and so fought berserk women or brides of berserks who had bewitched all of the men on the island. Thor details that, upon beaching his ship, the women battered it, threatened him with iorn clubs and chased his servant, Tjalfe.
In 1388 the ship of Queen Margreth I wrecked in Læsø. The queen was well recived, as of she gave the Læsø people their national dress. She also gave them the right to independence.
The women was in charge of land and farm.
In 1867 Duchess Maria Feodorovna donated a large sum of money for the reconstruction of Ă˜sterby Church.
In 2013 Danish television made a tv-show caled Læsø Kalder. The intention of this programe was to promote living om Læsø. It didn’t had any effect.
