Discover Duhallow Issue 66

By Stephanie Moynihan

In celebration of our Carers in Duhallow, and to kick off National Carers week 2022, IRD Duhallow was delighted to host a new initiative in June of this year, which was a coffee morning in the James O’Keeffe Institute for Mums & Dads of children with special needs funded through the Dormant Accounts Funding for Carers.

Mum’s and Dad’s had an opportunity to meet other parents while the children enjoyed the screening of a while with plenty of popcorn and treats served. All enjoyed a wonderfully relaxed morning and it is hoped that many similar events will be held in the coming months.

National Carers week is a national celebration of Family Carers with the aim of raising awareness of carers, offer meaningful and supportive events for Family Carers as well as raising awareness among Carers who have not yet accessed support. All those interested in joining our activities for Family and Voluntary Carers are invited to join us at our meetings on the first Thursday of every month at 8pm in the James O’Keeffe Institute. In addition to this group we are hoping to set up a new network for parents of children with special needs. We also have exciting events coming up including Mindfulness, Art Therapy, Stress Management & Resilience workshops and a very interesting training on the use of Video Conferencing tools.
