Are You Looking After A Loved One? Join Us!

By STEPHANIE MOYNIHAN

A line said by one of our Duhallow Carers network member’s at one of our recent meetings has stuck in my mind ever since. She referred to the group as a “tribe”, which I thought was a lovely way of describing the purpose of this group. This is what the group is all about- being a tribe, a safe environment and space for those who are looking after a loved one to get together. To share experiences, skills and knowledge on their journey as carers. We want to be there for you, support you and offer a listening ear all while drinking teas and coffees and eating delicious buns. Perhaps you are looking after an elderly relative of yours, a neighbour, or your child with special needs- we would be so thrilled to meet you. We are delighted to offer training to those looking after loved ones, hopefully helping you to feel better equipped and understood. Recent workshops included a seminar on how to advocate on behalf of your child at school or a very interesting session on the Assisted Decision Making Act and suggestions on future training are always so very welcome. Our group meets every first Thursday of the month in the James O’Keeffe Institute in Newmarket at 8pm and we have some fantastic events such as our Celebrating Mum’s coffee morning with some much needed pampering coming up. There are no obligations whatsoever-Just pop in on days suitable for you. I am at the end of the phone should you wish to find out more on 02960633. I can’t wait to hear from you.
