The Do‘s and Don’ts after a job interview

Waiting to hear back after a job interview? Keep the following in mind:

Be patient

This can be very tricky but so very important. Try not to over analyse your performance and be kind to yourself. Remember that getting to the interview stage is a fantastic achievement in itself.

Follow up

Following up with the employer after the interview is a good idea after some time has passed. You could ask in the interview, when the employer is hoping to make a decision, and it is very important to wait until at least that timeframe has passed. You want to express your interest in role by following up then without being to forceful i.e. repeatedly calling or emailing the employer. Please keep this in mind.

Continue your job search

Use this time of waiting productively and continue your job search for the time being.

Check your emails, phone and voicemail

Keep an eye out for any updates from the employer and ensure that your voicemail is set up with a professional greeting. Alert your referees You could also use this time to alert your referees about the possibility of receiving a phone call or email from the potential employer.
