English language began with the Anglo-Saxons, Germanic Tribes that settled where Celts were. Celts spoke Latin and a Celtic language and had very little influence on Old English and should not be considered ancestors of English. English began as a distinct language when the Anglo-Saxons split off from their Germanic cousins and left mainland Europe beginning around 450
