Art PROGRAMS

Comic Book Drawing

Anime Drawing For ages 13-19

Children will learn how to create storylines, draw characters and settings, and put them all together to form a comic strip. Students will also learn how to draw using digital applications.

Take figure drawing to the next level. Participants learn the characteristics of anime figures, design original characters and create storylines. Students will learn the basics in the first half of the year and advance their skills in the second half of the year such as learning how to draw settings for them.

Photography For ages 13-19

DIY CLASS For ages 5-8 and 9-12 Children will put their creativity to the test as they create fun projects using everyday objects from around the house. Projects will incorporate crafts and science concepts.

No high-priced camera required for this class. Youth will learn the artistic elements needed to take a well-designed photograph using their personal smartphone or tablet. *electronic device is required for participation*

Music Production

Orchestra

Piano

This class will be about learning how to create music using an online software. Students will learn the principles of creating music and how to create music beats and melodies.

Offered Spring 2022

For participation in this class students are required to have their own instrument. An instructor will work with the group to learn songs and students will learn how to blend together with the group musically.

This class will be a group instruction. An Instructor will work with the group to learn about and create music with piano. A piano or keyboard is required for this class.

Musical Theatre

Lyrical Writing

While focusing mostly on the acting portion, this class will consist of acting, singing, and dancing. Students will learn the basics of performing such as learning how to read scripts, choreography and how to sing theatrical music.

This class will focus on singing. An instructor will provide vocal coaching to help students improve their singing and teach them how to perform.

This class will teach students how to write lyrically. Whether it is poetry or song lyrics, you will learn the basics of lyrical writing.

Contemporary For ages 9-12

Ballet For ages 5-8 and 9-12

Students are introduced to the basics of ballet by practicing foundational warm-ups, such as pliés, relevés, tendus, and por de bras. The instructor and students collaboratively choreograph an Adagio, a graceful and controlled piece, upon stepping away from the barre. Participants learn the technical and expressive aspects of ballet. By watching various ballet pieces and improvising movement to different ballet music, students will develop artistry and empathy while assuming the roles of different characters.

This style of dance combines elements from genres, such as jazz, modern, lyrical, and ballet. Students learn techniques unique to contemporary dance while practicing and performing a choreographed routine at the end of the semester.

Salsa For ages 9-12 Students will follow the rhythm and step to the beat of the music as they learn the fundamental dance moves involved in salsa dance.

Hip Hop For ages 5-8 and 9-12 Students learn the basic steps of hip-hop dance while increasing their mental and physical awareness through movement. Participants practice a routine to perform at the end of the semester.

Kickboxing For ages 13-19

Zumba For ages 5-8, 9-12

Yoga For ages 5-8, 9-12

Students boost coordination, relieve stress, and develop focus and discipline while learning the basic moves of kickboxing, including jabs, kicks, and stance.

In this class, students learn fun, easy-to-follow dance routines that they will demonstrate at the end of the semester.

Students will learn a series of yoga poses that promotes strength, focus, emotional regulation, mindfulness, and stress and anxiety relief.

Karate For ages 9-12 In this beginner class, students will learn the guiding principles behind the Japanese martial arts discipline of karate. Participants will learn how to kick, strike and block using their arms and legs.

See Her Be Her For Ages 11-19

See Her Be Her is a coaching program for girls ages 11-19. The primary goal of this program is to cultivate Black girls by providing a service that is designed to address intergenerational trauma, low self-esteem, and identity issues while teaching etiquette and Black excellence. We uplift young, Black girls and give them the courage and self-confidence to reach their dreams.

Generation Z For Grades 10-12

Generation Z Project is a program designed to empower under-resourced high school students in grades 10-12. Our courses aim to unlock their inner potential while they explore new careers through introductory college courses and job readiness training.

Entrepreneur Academy For Ages 13-19

Teens in this online course learn how to be a business owner. They learn about entrepreneurship, startups, marketing, branding, budgeting, funding a business, elevator pitches, and more!

LEGOS For Ages 9-12

Girls of Color who Code For Grades 3-5, 6-8

Computer Science For ages 9-12, 13-19

Students will learn design and storytelling skills by building with virtual and physical lego bricks. In each semester, students will build on skills learned in the previous semester.

This class uses various platforms and software like App Lab division to teach students how to make basic apps. Our objectives are to create a fun and inviting space where girls build sisterhood and are inventive together, challenge girls to be brave by speaking up and taking risks, ignite girls’ interest in computer science.

Students learn the basics of computer science, such as variables, for-loops, functions, and object oriented programming. By the end of the class, they will have a solid foundation in programming fundamentals, allowing them to expand their knowledge into fields such as AI, data analysis, app design, web design, and video game design

Free-Play Coding Games For Ages 9-12 Students learn how to code by playing free, fun games online with a group of similarly-aged children.
