outique hotel” is a term that has been created in the USA to indicate small luxury hotels in an unconventional intimate environment, also called “design hotels” or “lifestyle hotels”. The first boutique hotels were created in the beginning of the 1980’s in big cities like New York, London and San Francisco. The “boutique apartment” trend followed the boutique hotels and they are similar in many ways. The boutique apartment is usually smaller, stylish and located in a fashion district. In both cases, the important element is the building in which they are located as well as the personalised services they offer. Unique in its design and architecture, the boutique building can be distinguished by its personal style, aspect and unique feeling, interpreting the exclusivity associated to the word “boutique”.

outique hotel è un termine coniato negli Stati Uniti per indicare dei piccoli hotel di lusso, con un ambiente non convenzionale e intimo. Spesso chiamati “design hotel” o “lifestyle hotel”, i primi boutique hotel sono nati all’inizio degli anni Ottanta nelle grandi città come New York, Londra e San Francisco. Il trend dei boutique apartment ha seguito quello dei boutique hotel e in qualche modo essi si somigliano. Il boutique apartment è solitamente piccolo, “stiloso” e collocato in un quartiere alla moda. In entrambi i casi ciò che fa la differenza, oltre all’offerta di servizi personalizzati, è l’edificio che li contiene. Unico nel design e nell’architettura, il boutique building si distingue sempre per il proprio stile, l’aspetto e il feeling unico, interpretando il senso di esclusività associato con la parola boutique.
