Polyurea spray technology has come a long way since it was first launched in the 1980s. Almost thirty years on, the benefits of polyurea coatings are now widely recognized and their popularity goes from strength to strength. Marc Broekaert (Fig. 1), Project Manager at Huntsman Polyurethanes, takes a closer look at polyurea’s pedigree, how the technology has evolved, and where it’s currently being used.

Dopo quasi trent’anni, i benefici dei rivestimenti di poliurea sono ora ampiamente riconosciuti e la loro popolarità è in continuo aumento. The market for polyurea first emerged in the United States in the late 1980s. Asia was next to embrace this innovative coating method, followed by Europe – where demand began to pick up pace after the millennium, following a false start in the late 1990s. Initially, polyurea was used as a protective layer over polyurethane insulation foam for roofing applications.
