A weapon, like many other goods, is bought “with the eyes”: this may seem a platitude, but the buyer’s desire is triggered by the appeal of the structure, design and look of a weapon. In the vast finishing industry, little attention is paid to the surface treatments carried out to perform a double function: Aesthetic and protective against mechanical and chemical stresses of different nature. Here, we are focussing on the hunting and sporting weapons, i.e. products that, in the course of their service life, are subjected to mechanical stresses, weathering, contact with chemicals (e.g. lubricants) and physiological substances (e.g. hand perspiration) requiring the finish to protect the hundreds of sensitive components and the sophisticated mechanisms against wear and corrosion. However, this durability and strength performance, already difficult to achieve, must be combined with the top quality
Un’arma, come molti altri beni, si compra con gli occhi: può sembrare una banalità ma il desiderio dell’acquirente è scatenato dall’appeal di architettura, design ed estetica di un’arma. Nel vasto settore della finitura poca visibilità è data ai trattamenti superficiali eseguiti su un prodotto per il quale essi svolgono una duplice funzione: estetica e protettiva contro sollecitazioni meccaniche e chimiche di natura diversa. Stiamo parlando delle armi da caccia e sportive, manufatti che, nel corso della loro vita utile, sono sottoposti a stress meccanici, influenze atmosferiche, contatto con sostanze chimiche (i lubrificanti, ad esempio) e fisiologiche (il sudore delle mani) che richiedono alla finitura di difendere da usura e corrosione le centinaia di componenti sensibili e i meccanismi sofisticati che le compongono. Queste prestazioni di durata e resistenza, già di per sé difficili da raggiungere, devono combinarsi con caratteristiche este-
