7.500 tonnellate di acciaio installate, fino a 1.450 tecnici che lavorano fianco a fianco in cantiere e un volume di termini contrattuali da soddisfare: la costruzione del reparto di verniciatura del nuovo stabilimento Volkswagen a Wrzesnia, in Polonia, è uno degli ordini più importanti che Dürr abbia mai ricevuto. A poco tempo dalla conclusione dei lavori, tutto prosegue esattamente secondo i piani. Il Vice Presidente Thomas Gstettenbauer, che sovrintende le operazioni di gestione del progetto per la società impiantista, spiega in un’intervista come Dürr realizza progetti di scala globale (fig. 1).
Mr. Gstettenbauer, you and more than 100 employees in the project and construction site management team are currently coordinating 25 large-scale projects in the painting and final assembly areas. What is your biggest challenge? The new paint shop for Volkswagen in Poland, for which we are providing all handling and processing equipment for the new Crafter – a transport van that measures up to 7.3 meters in length and has 85 m² of surface area to paint – is quite a big challenge indeed. In the steel construction alone, we have mounted some 5 football fields of platforms and installed 640 meters of drying equipment, 1,000 meters of work stations and 7.6 km of conveyor systems, not to mention routed 650 km of cable. The fact that we have 1 also been commissioned to erect the building as a general contractor makes the endeavor even more demanding. Regardless of the volume, however, the factors that determine the success of every project have always been the delivery scope, time, quality and costs. For our customers in the automotive industry, the most important criterion is the start of production, or SOP. If this deadline is overshot, heavy contractual penalties can be imposed. Thankfully, Dürr is known for meeting project deadlines.
Signor Gstettenbauer, lei e oltre 100 addetti del team di progettazione e costruzione state attualmente coordinando 25 progetti su larga scala per i reparti di verniciatura e assemblaggio finale. Qual è la sfida più grande? Il nuovo reparto di verniciatura per Volkswagen in Polonia, a cui stiamo fornendo l’intero impianto di movimentazione e trattamento per il nuovo Crafter, un furgone che misura fino a 7,3 m in lunghezza e presenta una superficie verniciabile di 85 m2, è davvero una grande sfida. Solo per le strutture in acciaio, abbiamo montato qualcosa come 5 campi da calcio di piattaforme e installato 640 m di dispositivi di essiccazione, 1.000 m di postazioni di lavoro e 7,6 km di trasportatori, senza contare i 650 km del percorso cavi. Il fatto che ci sia stato affidato, come general contractor, anche l’incarico della costruzione dell’edificio rende lo sforzo ancora maggiore. Al di là del volume, comunque, i fattori che determinano il successo di ogni progetto sono sempre l’ambito della fornitura, le tempistiche, la qualità e i costi. Per i nostri clienti del settore automotive, il criterio più importante è l’inizio delle attività della produzione, o SOP (Start of Production). Nel caso in cui questo termine non sia rispettato, possono essere imposte pesanti penali contrattuali. Fortunatamente Dürr è nota per rispettare le consegne dei progetti.
How do you manage to carry out projects just in time? Over the last few years, we have continually worked on optimizing our processes as they lay the foundation for ensuring that projects are completed smoothly and efficiently. Our primary goal is to implement every step 14

7,500 tons of installed steel, up to 1,450 technicians working side by side at the construction site and a contract volume to match: Erecting the paint shop for the new Volkswagen plant in Wrzesnia, Poland is one of the largest orders Dürr has ever received. Shortly before the facility is commissioned, everything runs exactly to plan. Vice President Thomas Gstettenbauer, who oversees project management activities for the plant engineering firm, reports in an interview how global projects are carried out at Dürr (Fig. 1).
Come riuscite a realizzare i progetti just in time? Negli ultimi anni, abbiamo continuamente lavorato per ottimizzare i nostri processi in modo da porre le basi per garantire che i progetti procedano senza intoppi e in modo efficiente.
