NACE CORROSION CONGRESS 2012 SALT LAKE CITY (USA)
T
his year, the Congress organised by NACE International was held in the U.S., in Salt Lake City (Utah), from 11th to 15th March. As usual, it drew tens of thousands of participants from all over the world. This Congress is in fact recognised by the corrosion industry experts as the event of the year, both for the particularity and the high technical level of the offer and for all related activities taking place at the same time (technical programs, committee meetings, seminars and lectures, networking venues, etc) and the largest corrosion exhibition in the world (attendees bring the latest corrosion knowledge back to their workplace). The program also included several “activities” that have been introduced over the years obtaining excellent results, based on the feedback from the participants themselves, such as the “Foot Race” on the Sunday morning, which was won by an Italian this year, the “NACE and ISO Working Groups anticipating the opening of the Congress, the great inauguration party on the Sunday evening and the important Plenary Lecture introducing the technical-scientific reports dealing with all corrosion problems and the prevention methods in various industries (mechanical, chemical, oil, petrochemical, nuclear, naval, off-shore, aeronautical, civil, building, transport, highway, etc.). As already mentioned, the side activities played an important role too: the meetings of the Trustees/Presidents of the different NACE sections from all over the world divided into geographical areas, the Student Poster Session” and the new prize-giving for the winners of the “MP Readers Choice Award” for the most important and exciting innovations “in the field of corrosion control worldwide”. Companies, individuals and governments were invited to submit nominations resulting in a total of 64 nominations from 17 countries for consideration for the top ten innovations. uest’anno il Congresso organizzato dalla NACE International si è svolto negli Stati Uniti, a Salt Lake City (Utah) dall’ 11 al 15 di Marzo, e, come di consueto, ha richiamato decine di migliaia di partecipanti provenienti da ogni parte del mondo. Il Congresso è infatti riconosciuto dagli esperti del settore dell’anticorrosione come l’evento dell’anno, sia per la particolarità delle memorie presentate e contraddistinte dall’alto livello tecnico, sia per tutte le attività collaterali che si svolgono in contemporanea (programmi tecnici, incontri delle commissioni, seminari e conferenze, incontri di networking, ecc.), e rappresenta la mostra più grande del mondo sulla corrosione (di ritorno presso i propri luoghi di lavoro, i partecipanti portano con sé la conoscenza più recente in materia di corrosione). Come da tradizione il programma prevedeva parecchie “attività” che sono state introdotte negli anni sulla base degli ottimi risultati ottenuti dal riscontro dei partecipanti stessi nelle precedenti edizioni, come la “Corsa Podistica” della domenica mattina, che quest’anno ha visto la vittoria di un italiano; i “Gruppi di Lavoro NACE e ISO” che precedono l’apertura del Congresso, la grande festa dell’inaugurazione della domenica sera, l’importante Plenary Lecture che introduce alla parte delle presentazioni tecnico-scientifiche, le quali coprono tutte le problematiche dell’anticorrosione con i differenti metodi di prevenzione nei molteplici campi di attività (industria meccanica, chimica, petrolifera, petrolchimica, nucleare, navale, off-shore, aeronautica, civile, edilizia, trasporti, autostrade, ecc.). Come già anticipato, importanti anche le varie attività collaterali, tra cui, le riunioni dei Trustee/Presidenti delle varie Sezioni NACE distribuite nel mondo suddivise in aree geografiche, la “Student Poster Session”, e la novità introdotta quest’anno relativamente alle premiazioni dei vincitori del premio “MP Readers Choice Award” basato sulle più importanti ed eccitanti innovazioni nel settore del controllo della corrosione a livello mondiale. Tale iniziativa ha coinvolto aziende, individui e governi che sono stati chiamati a
