And, as all do at IWC, you will give practice and meaning to your learning, as you actively work and serve in the community. You will acquire knowledge. You will gain experience. And you will unearth a larger vision for your life. Prepared to succeed, inspired to make a difference, you will set out into the world a better and bolder you.

A BOLD TRADITION We are one of the nation’s most historic and boldest institutions. From IWC emerged the nation’s first female attorney, the first female commander of the International Space Station, one of the first centers for service-learning (we are currently ranked the top college in the country for our commitment to service), and more.

IWC is one of the oldest four-year, coeducational, church-related liberal arts colleges west of the Mississippi River.

Be inspired.

Find meaning How will you lead Discover yourself Strong mentors Pursue social justice World changer Pursue your passion Step out Be you

IWC is a small college that offers huge encouragement. Our classrooms average just 10 students, making possible close relationships with professors who will teach you, mentor you, and inspire you. Challenged to be your best, supported in every way, you will step out as never before – engaging, taking risks, and developing into a bold, confident leader. You’ll learn about your chosen field, but you’ll learn about social justice and servant leadership, too. You’ll find knowledge. You’ll find meaning. You’ll find inspiration – for a deeper, more purposeful life.

BECCA KOKJOHN ’16 | ELEMENTARY EDUCATION MAJOR WEST POINT, IA

“I went to a very small high school, so I didn’t want a large university. I didn’t want to sit in a large classroom and just blend in. At IWC, all my teachers know me, and they know my goals. They are always there for me with the help and encouragement I need.” WHY I LIKE MY MAJOR I’m a freshman, and I’m already getting experience in the classroom.

Be active. Small school

So many opportunities Lecture? What lecture? Lunch with my professor Join the club Forget the Xbox No standing on the sidelines Meet new people Join in and lead Doing is better

Ours is a hands-on, immersive education at IWC. Here, students actively engage in the learning process. Our classrooms are alive with debate and discussion. Service-learning is integrated throughout the curriculum. Internships and other field experiences are part of every major. And, on our smaller campus, students find all kinds of opportunities to participate and lead. Why all this emphasis on experiential learning? Because research shows engaged students are more successful students. They’re experienced. They’re prepared. They’re ready for the world.

ACTIVE CLASSROOMS Instead of sitting back and taking in a lecture, you’ll actively engage in the classroom at IWC. In small, interactive classes, you’ll share in class discussions, participate in activities and demonstrations, and collaborate with other students and your professors.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM With additional opportunities such as internships, service-learning, field trips, and course-related campus events and speakers, you will deepen your understanding of lessons learned in the classroom.

Be real. Apply what you

learn So this is what an attorney does Internship required Experience your field Meet professionals Learn by doing Study abroad

IWC students learn in the real world. Through field experiences, internships, service-learning, civic engagement programs, and more, our students are able to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it alongside seasoned professionals, in an actual work environment. When they’re not gaining work experience, many IWC students are experiencing study abroad, acquiring a broader, more informed perspective of the world. All of these experiences make for a deeper, more practical education – and provide a “real” advantage for all IWC graduates.

PRACTICAL INTERNSHIPS All IWC students complete at least one internship or field experience before graduation. These professional, hands-on experiences enable students to gain invaluable firsthand experience in their fields, while developing new skills and creating professional networks.

STUDY ABROAD A wide range of study abroad opportunities are available to IWC students through the College and a local consortium, including programs in Austria, England, France, Ghana, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, and Wales.

IWC is ranked #1 in the country for its commitment to community service. In our highly acclaimed service-learning program, you will serve, and you will learn – as you master course concepts by engaging in service opportunities in the community, focusing on community development, social justice, and human welfare.
