Facts •

Thomas Johnson Myers was born on June 7, 1840 in Warren County, Indiana.

He entered Iowa Wesleyan University in 1858 and graduated with Bachelor of Arts in 1864.

On June 13, 1861, he enlisted in the First Iowa Volunteer Cavalry. He started as a non-commissioned officer and left the Army as a Sergeant. He was in active service from 1861-64. He worked as a recruiting officer from January 1, 1864 until April 1864. He also worked in Little Rock, Arkansas, from May 1, 1864 until September 9, 1864.


Facts • He was admitted to the Iowa Conference and served as a minister, as follows: o 1869 – New Sharon o 1870 – Sigourney o 1871 – Otley o 1872 – Bellfountain o 1874 – Kirksville o 1877 – Kossuth o 1880 – Danville o 1883 – South Burlington o 1884 – P.E. Burlington District

• And as a pastor: o 1890 – Centerville o 1891 – P.E. Keokuk District o 1902 – P.E. Burlington District


Facts • He was Treasurer and Financial Secretary of I.W.U. in 1897 and Treasurer and Field Secretary in 1908.

• He was elected as a member of three general conferences: Omaha, Cleveland, and Los Angeles.

• Myers was also a twice Reserve Delegate.

• He married Eliza J. Morrison on September 16, 1869 in Victoria, Illinois. They had four children together: Edward Morrison (1893), Mary L. (1896), Charles Haven (1902), and John Foster.

• Reverend Myers died May 13, 1929 and is buried in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
