We trust that each of you got a chance to continue playing more golf in 2021 or hopefully invited someone to play some golf. If not, you still have time to do BOTH. Fall Golf is my favorite time of the year to golf. Not as many people are playing, the Golf Course Superintendents have, for the most part, completed their aerification of the greens and you usually do not have to fight any weather issues like large rainstorms.

And you get to be outside, see the Fall colors and play some golf. The game of a lifetime.

Feeding off of Chad and Randy’s themes on ‘Thank a Superintendent Day’, there are necessary practices to keep the turf we are all privileged to play healthy. Thank you to all the Golf Course Superintendents. Especially the ones I got to serve with…Steve Tyler (Iowa Golf HOF), Steve Fagerlind, Ken “Laser Beam” Ellenson, Chris Coen, Dean “Stay Green” Fagerlind, Tom Klein, the late Charlie “Pribbs” Pribble, John Kofoot, Doug Snook (Iowa Golf HOF) and my last one Dave Beik.

These Superintendents and their staffs work diligently to give us some of the best conditions to play golf. PLUS they get to see all of the best sunrises, and in some cases the best sunsets, that anyone could see. Next time you are playing your home course or any course, be sure to wave to the staff, maybe even go wild, stop them and say “Thank You” to the grounds crew for all of their hard work. After all, golf is a perfect place to escape the world and play a GAME!
