wore braces as a child; it was a rite of passage: a mouth full of silver metal and refusing to smile until they came off. The real problem for me came later, at the grand old age of 41, when I realised my braces hadn’t actually worked and I’d grown up with what was affectionately known as a ‘snaggle tooth’. While I had mastered my best possible angle for photos and my crooked little tooth had become a part of me, it wasn’t a part of me I necessarily wanted to keep.
