Karen Hass & Peter Mulvenny’s
Glasgow The owners of CoLab Store on art, the West End and working together
Favourite part of the city? We love the vibrancy of the West End. There’s a great mix of people, loads of great bars and restaurants, good parks and shops. We live and work here - we opened CoLab Store in the heart of Partick. Where did the idea for CoLab Store stem from? We liked the idea of a creatively driven concept and lifestyle space with in-house coffee shop and had seen similar ideas on the continent. The name came from it being a collaboration between me and Peter and between retail and coffee. Did you always plan to work together? We’ve always chatted about it since the days we sold Peter’s photography prints at local markets. When we started printing his images onto cushions, coasters and mugs, retailers began approaching us asking to sell our products – so we decided to do it ourselves. What does a typical day involve? We only opened in December last year so every day is different. We could be serving in the coffee shop and store or merchandising, sourcing new products and working on our social media. It’s a constant learning curve.
