High student places third in statistics poster contest

The contest is designed for students to research statistical information, either by
Larry Dean Snodgrass, 63, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017, at St John Medical Center in Tulsa. Larry was born in Iola on July 5, 1953, to Dale D. and Louann (Stoddard) Snodgrass. He graduated from Iola High School with the class of 1971. On June 5, 1981, Larry married JoEtta Archer, and they made their home in Skiatook, Okla. Larry loved hunting and fishing, and he enjoyed woodworking in his shop. Most recently, Larry was employed as a contract driver trainer for Schlumberger in Tulsa. Survivors include wife, JoEtta; son Matthew Dean Snodgrass (Teri); sister Deanna Neuner (Charles); nephew Geoff Deman (Ashley Tippin); father-in-law Jimmy Archer (Lucille); and many other relatives and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his father and mother. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Skiatook. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, followed by interment in the Osage Gardens cemetery, under the direction of Sien-Shelton Funeral Home, Skiatook (www.siensheltonfh.com). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a special remembrance honoring Larry or donations to the charity of the donor’s choice.
James Anderson James Guinn Anderson, 77, LaHarpe, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, at his home in Sherman, Texas. He was born July 17, 1939, in Gas City. He grew up in LaHarpe, graduated from Iola High School, attended Allen County Community Junior College James and later graduated with his Anderson master’s degree from Pittsburg State University. He served for four years in the U.S. Navy. He married Doris Schiefelbine on Feb. 26, 1961, in LaHarpe. Over the course of the next five years they added three children to their family. James worked in industry and education and retired from the Kansas State Department of Education in 2001.He enjoyed gardening, family history/genealogy and spending time with his family. He also volunteered and served in various positions in his church throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Evelyn Anderson, and a son, James Douglas. He is survived by his wife Doris; daughter Dana Hicken (Matt); son Michael (Tana), grandchildren Sheryl Bustamante (Will), Christian Hicken (Cami), Nicholas Hicken (Dayna), Megan and Lexi Hicken; and great-grandchildren Trey and Tripp Bustamante and Aubrey Hicken. A graveside service and inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery at Iola. Contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested to Camp Dragon Fly Grief Camp for Kids sponsored by Home Hospice of Grayson County, 505 W. Center St., Sherman, TX 75090. Police report Arrests reported Kody Ratcliff, 20, Iola, was arrested Sunday for allegedly possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the 1200 block of North Jefferson Avenue, Iola police officers said. Ratcliff also was accused of not having liability insurance. Charges are being requested through the Allen County attorney’s office. Allen County sheriff’s deputies arrested Jeffery S. Hambleton, 49, Burlington, for allegedly driving while intoxicated. Deputies arrested Justin A. Gomez, 29, rural Iola, for suspicion of domestic battery and interfering with law enforcement.
