Young Consultant Inspire the children MINISTRY OF YOUTH, NEPAL As a young person, being involved has allowed me to build my skills, but I also feel part of a greater scheme by allow a greater depth of information to be gathered. With a group of young people we work with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Save the Children, the Association of Youth Organisations Nepal (AYON) and Nepal Planning Commission to carry out a situation analysis of young people in Nepal, a newly emerging post-conflict country. My colleagues and I were fortunate to have access to research institutions in Europe and hope we can inspire other youth to also contribute to research in their country.
OUR MISSION – To gather information that reflects the situation on the ground;
– To recruit, train and support young people to be effective researchers.
HOW WE DID IT 1. Calls for applications via ten partners and youth networks; 2. Competitive selection, requirement of previous field experience of working with young people. 3 . Gender balance was also considered, as well as ensuring there was representation of the different c aste and ethnic groups;
4. Group discussion involving 15 candidates, enabling young people to demonstrate their skills through a series of tasks including design of research methodology;
5. Technical/pastoral support from representatives of the partners, an independent research consultant a nd two academic advisors;
6. Young researchers broke down areas of inquiry and developed guidelines for focus group d iscussions, key-informant interviews, questionnaires and dialogue workshops;
7. Tools were piloted and reviewed; 8. Young people carried out research and compiled brief district reports; 9. The report was finalised by the research consultant.

After 2015 we should move from reducing to ending extreme poverty, in all its forms. We should ensure that no person – regardless of ethnicity, gender, geography, disability, race or other status – is denied basic economic opportunities and human rights.
For the next generation I see every single person in this world as an invaluable piece of a bigger puzzle, a puzzle where everyone is fully connected to each other at the same level, a puzzle where everyone can unleash their full potential without any sort of i nequality barrier.

W H AT W E A C H I V E D – An effective way to bring youth participation into professional roles in the organisation;
– Young people were able to establish strong bonds with local NGOs;
– Beneficiaries were able to express themselves more openly to their peers and to a genderbalanced team.

I think that the priority for post-2015 should be education and solidarity. The access to e ducation is one of the most important rights for young people and public policies should make sure that all youngsters have equal opportunities at school. Considering the migration waves in E urope right now, it is also imperative for the young m igrants and refugees to keep going to school and u niversities for preparing their future. - Rafael Michaelson, France
