L    Dubai Palm Jumeirah, the project consists of the full interior design of a new spa and fitness centre in the Taj Exotica Resort.

The spa’s design is contemporary, minimalist yet luxurious in design with subtle Indian cues in line with the hotel’s roots – all achieved through finely crafted artefacts and design elements.

The design of the space blends effortlessly with nature thanks to the use of natural materials with an emphasis on organic forms and curves. The spa’s ambience accentuates serenity and softness to bring about a mystical and magical atmosphere. This is achieved through design elements such as natural ambient lighting, a seamless indooroutdoor connection and the use of natural and high-quality materials such as American walnut wood, golden mosaics, travertine marble and Terra Chiara (composed of quartz and granite).

The importance of being connected to nature is a key element of the spa creation and design. One example is the use of Tadelakt – a traditional Moroccan wallsurfacing technique composed of lime plaster and finished with olive oil soap. It is ideal for use in wet areas such as showers and baths. The history of the technique has its origins in the ancient city of Marrakech at the foot of the high Atlas Mountains.

Wherever possible the outstanding views of the Arabian Gulf have been given prominence to allow guests to take advantage of their location.
