foreword

Before you is our fourth Interpretations collection. Another year has passed and we are proud to share this collection with you, one as precious to us as the first three volumes.

Onto these pages we truly poured our heart and our soul. We turned our wishes and dreams into designs. We also reached out from our comfort zone and tried to discover new areas, this year especially with colors and unusual yarn choices, still trying to keep our true voices with us.

With each passing year, this collaborative work has proven to take bigger and bigger parts of our hearts and we can clearly feel our friendship is growing ever stronger with each volume.

Our life has become so much richer with this journey together. This collaborative work is such a big part of our lives that it is almost impossible to remember the time before. Interpretations collaboration is not just a huge part of our work each year, but an essential part of our lives which we hope to keep cherishing and evolving.

For this fourth volume we again selected six words to inspire us. This time the words are: Hidden, Magic, Gather, Chromatic, Direction and Fragile. Like on the previous volumes, each of us made a piece inspired by our interpretation of the words, thus making Interpretations Volume four a twelve piece collection altogether.

This year, we decided to do our photoshoot in Finland. For the first time, we returned to the same country that was our inspiration for Interpretations Volume 2. Again Finland proved to be just as magical as on the first time or even more so. The country also showed us its best and worst qualities - from pouring rain to gorgeously bright and golden evening sun and all the way to misty midsummer night. We literally ended our photoshoot at midnight.

Coming back to same country for a second time, the familiarity of the surroundings, added some contrast with the more interesting design and material choices. It felt like another layer on these photos. While going beyond comfortable areas with some designs, the ease of the photoshoot location made the designs really shine and sparkle.

We are so proud to share this 4th chapter of our story with you - hope you all keep knitting this same journey with us.

gather Knitters are a special kind.

I believe that there is something coded into us that makes us inevitably drawn to our craft. Whenever there’s some knitting around us, we just can sense it, can’t we? We feel intrigued to find out who’s that person knitting in the corner of the bus? What is she making?

I think that it was our destiny that we would be knitters, and as such, we reach to connect with others whose destinies are the same.

Is there anything more exciting to a knitter than reuniting with friends who share the same love and passion? Any knitting gathering is a celebration, a joy. We celebrate that we found each other and rejoice in the fact that we all speak the same language. That we can share this craft and art, that our paths have finally crossed.

We designed knits that will hug and embrace you, but will also fire that interest in your knitting friends: What is she wearing? How did she make that?

We truly hope these knits will join you at your next knitting gathering.

This coat was inspired by winter, snow, ancient forests and wood fires.

It is worked from the top down, seamlessly, with a very flattering shoulder construction and overlapping fronts. The body is carefully shaped, making sure that the increases are perfectly tailored around the body and resemble those of your favorite wool coat. Because it has an A-line shape, it fits perfectly any kind of figure. Even knitters who usually add some stitches to the hips of their coats will find that that’s not necessary with Winterfolk.

The hood has generous proportions to allow to put it on and take it off easily. There is only one cable panel to follow, repeated 3 times (twice in the front and once in the back). Since the pattern is worked from the top-down, length can easily be adjusted from a jacket style to any length you like.

chromatic Color may be the most important and magnificent decision in creating a new project. Color inspires, excites and can even manipulate your emotions suggesting memories and igniting feelings.

That glorious reflex of excitement when you first cast-on for a project is not solely due to the pattern but it is often the complexity of the color you are about to experience and combine. This complexity not only comes from brightness or saturation. Sometimes what seems to be a lack of color hides within a rich mix of hues that you only see while you wind up your yarn and let it slid through your fingers.

Color indeed changes us...

And we often wonder whether it is also possible for a person to project a feeling the way color does?

For instance, when we say “Hello� with a smile to strangers that pass by. These actions radiate a reaction in other people and the ripple effect begins. Changing our world for the better can only begin by each of us changing ourselves. Let only love and understanding radiate from your being. This little cardigan is knitted from the top down and seamlessly.

What starts looking like another regular raglan-sleeve sweater, turns into a surprising construction. Different lines of increases are worked in the body of the sweater, creating a flow and drape that are unique to this type of construction and flattering to all body types.

It can be dressed up or down. Worked in a more sturdy yarn it is a classic every-day piece. Perfect for throwing on plain tops and jeans. But if you use a more luxurious yarn, like the one pictured in the pattern, it becomes the perfect companion for a night out.

east or west by joji Locatelli I try to always remind myself, when designing, that there are no rules. That there is no established way of constructing a sweater. And throughout my career, the most exciting moments have been when a new challenging image jumps in my head, and I face the task of translating that into a knitting pattern. That’s what saves me whenever I am feeling bored or uninspired.

For me, stitches can be oriented in any direction and can be shifted and twisted to acquire any shape, but how to do it? That’s the mystery I set myself to unveil every time.

This delicate pullover was inspired in a vintage blouse and it is constructed in a nontraditional direction using 2 more muted colors and a pop of neon for a striking detail.
