Established in 1951, The International School of Brussels (ISB) is a diverse community located in the capital of Belgium, in the heart of Europe. This international location is reflected in the school culture, built to develop independent learners and global citizens. ISB is the oldest and largest English medium international school in Belgium and the largest single campus international school in Europe.

Grading Scale The chart below is a representation of the ISB grading structure in the Upper School. The High School includes Grades 10-12; the grading scale is different for grade 9, which is housed in the Middle School. Please note that ISB does not grade with or report using percentages; the equivalency is shared here to support universities and external organizations who are more familiar with this model. As our grades are ultimately tied to descriptive indicators, it is possible for a student to have an ISB grade that falls in between two numbers (such as 5.5). ISB has an open enrollment policy which produces a diverse student body; students join us from many different educational systems from around the world. In line with our school’s mission and values, ISB does not calculate Grade Point Average (GPA) or rank our students.
Graduation Requirements: In four years of study, students will undertake an average of 30 full year credits, with 8 courses in grades 9 & 10 and 7 courses in grades 11 & 12. Students are required to complete:

AP Results In our second year of administering AP courses and exams, 59 students from across grade 9-12 completed 89 exams in 13 different subjects. ISB students scored significantly higher than the world average in each subject as well as higher than the average compared with other students in Belgium who sat AP exams in the subjects we offer.
