The 20 best riders of those team contests will qualify for the individual finals. Winners in all categories will be crowned “World Reining” Champions

World Para Reining has worked tirelessly to implement educational and competitive programs worldwide and currently holds para reining competitions in conjunction with international show associations in the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, South Africa, and Australia.

In 2022 WPR proudly announced that the historical restrictions surrounding para-equestrian sports were finally broken. Traditionally, acceptable "impairments" that qualified riders to compete in para were limited to "measurable, physical, or visual impairments." That archaic limitation is now a thing of the past with WPR creating Grade 5 which opens doors to all riders dealing with any "Impairment," of all ages, and any level of ability, to compete safely from grassroots to International competition. Once again Corinna Schumacher's picturesque CS Ranch, one of Europe's biggest reining facilities located on the shores of Lake Léman, will be host to yet another top-notch equestrian event: The very first World Reining Championship offering Euro 150.000 prize money.

Built off the format of the highly successful World Equestrian Games, the NRHA-approved competition includes championships for Young and Junior Riders, Open Senior Riders, and the innovative Amateur Senior Riders open to non-professional riders aged 18 and over. The response to the inaugural event can be read through the number of combinations and countries showing: 12 nations (following the cancellation of two U.S. riders who were unable to attend) and 123 riders competing with horses aged 5 and up.

The Open and Amateur Senior Riders competition, following the draw parties on Wednesday, July 5 determining the order of go, will officially open the World Reining Championships on Thursday, July 6 with the Team Competition. The top 20 individual finalists in both categories will make their way to the finals on Saturday, July 8.

The Open Senior Team competition offers Euro 25.000 total prize money and counts teams from Belgium, France, Germany, Italy (with two additional athletes showing in the individual), and Poland. In addition, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, and Switzerland will have athletes selected by their country showing in the Individual Competition with Euro 50.000 total prize and payback to the first 20 placed duos.

The string of professionals vying for the World Reining Champion titles boasts impressive show records and competition is bound to raise stardust in the impressive CS Ranch Arena. Three athletes listed in the elite NRHA Million Dollar club will also be riding for the Team and Individual World Championship titles: NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider Bernard Fonck and Million Dollar Rider Ann Fonck of Belgium, along with Europe's youngest NRHA Million Dollar Rider, Germany's Gina Schumacher.

The highly successful and innovative Amateur Senior Riders division counts eight countries represented by Teams Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Poland, and Switzerland showing in Euro 15.000 prize money category. Athletes from the Czech Republic (1) and Poland (2) will be riding for a ticket to the Finals in the Individual Competition which offers Euro 20.000 prize money and pays back up to the 20th spot.

Into the skies on four hooves.

Horses travel first class with Lufthansa Cargo.

Sometimes, even horses have to fly: When sporting or breeding horses change owners across international boundaries or tournament horses need to be transported for competitions abroad, flying is often the quickest and kindest way. But transport still requires real sensitivity for

all those involved, as horses are naturally nervous animals that are jumpy about anything out of the ordinary. The employees at the Lufthansa Cargo Animal Lounge at Frankfurt Airport have real empathy and finesse where these creatures are concerned.

They look after more than 2,000 horses a year, aiming to make their stay and their travel to far-off lands as comfortable as possible. There are around 4,000 square meters in Frankfurt set aside for looking after, feeding, housing and the further transport of animal passengers.

Sabine Grebe, who has been in charge of the Animal Lounge since 2010, is herself a passionate dressage and western rider. Like so many of her colleagues, she has turned her passion for animals into a career: “We all put our hearts into this, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.” There is no other way, as the four-legged passengers are very demanding and require particular attention.

“We do our utmost to keep their stress levels down as low as possible,” says Sabine Grebe. This is particularly thanks to the special containers developed by Lufthansa Cargo. They are perfectly adapted to the needs of the horses. “At the same time, all transports are planned such that we can load in peace and give all the horses plenty of time,” Sabine Grebe says, explaining to horse owners how careful they are. After the containers are loaded, the freighter is immediately ready on the apron. “The routes are deliberately kept short,” reports Sabine Grebe. “Finally, we make sure that the animals are only boarded shortly before takeoff.” The containers are loaded slowly and carefully into the aircraft using a lifting platform and secured in place. All animals are accompanied at all times by a qualified groom who looks after their charges throughout the journey.

With all these careful measures, it is no surprise that even national teams from various countries rely on the expertise of Lufthansa Cargo and entrust the airline with the transport of their valuable horses. And all the leading breeders are always happy to use the services in Frankfurt again.

Once the moment arrives when the horses are high above the clouds, beginning to peek curiously out of their containers and nibbling on their hay, Sabine Grebe and her team know they have once again done a first-class job.
