DESCRIPTION

“Counselor” is a term that describes the more local position within the constituent or state Chapter that assists the Deputy Regent. Counselors are key local/community ICD representatives; therefore, several Counselors may be chosen for one state.

Being a Counselor is a great way to learn more about the International College of Dentists. It is a perfect platform to demonstrate leadership and affords the opportunity to participate in honoring worthy colleagues.

BYLAWS:

Counselors shall be appointed by the Deputy Regent with the approval of the Regent to assist in carrying out the activities of The USA Section in their State or other recognized unit. There shall be a sufficient number of Counselors to efficiently and adequately serve the State or other recognized unit. They shall be appointed annually, their terms to begin at 12:01 a.m. on January 1. If appropriate one Counselor should act as Secretary/Treasurer of the State or other recognized unit.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (could be included, but not limited to):

 Provide local information regarding potential candidates for Fellowship to the Deputy Regent.  Assist candidate sponsors with letters of recommendation protocol.  Nominate candidates for Fellowship.  Be familiar with the USA Section website and its contents, especially the new electronic Fellowship process: www.usa-icd.org  Possibly participate as a member of the Chapter Screening Committee.  Contribute to ICD special projects.  Attend the Fellowship Convocation and Dinner Dance at the USA Section ICD national annual meeting (which coincides with the ADA annual meeting.)  Contact new Fellows after they return home from their Induction Convocation.  Attend constituent/state ICD meetings and activities.  Assist the Editor with the development of the District newsletter by taking photographs at local events and writing articles about local ICD Fellows.  Attend local, state, and District dental meetings to increase the visibility of the ICD.  Participate in short-term goals and long-range strategic planning with your state and District Officers.  Mentor dental students, young dentists, and new Fellows.  Visit the dental schools in your area. Coordinate this with the other officers.  Support the White Coat Ceremony for dental schools. Coordinate attendance with the other officers.  Familiarize yourself with the duties of the other officers.  Promote USA Section ICD Foundation contributions.  Assist the Deputy Regent as requested.
