Kadazandusun

- The Largest Ethnic Community The term Kadazandusun was coined to foster harmonious unity among the two groups, Kadazan and Dusun. There are numerous sub-groups within the community such as Dusun Tindal, Dusun Lotud, Dusun Ranau and many more. • Language: Bunduliwan • Musical Instruments: Sompoton, bungkau, kulintangan and togunggak Sompoton is a mouth organ that made of dried gourd and bamboo pieces arranged in two layers, can be played solo or in a group. • Traditional Dance: Sumazau The dance is performed by two rows of men and women who face each other and move with a steady hypnotic rhythm. The graceful arm gestures of the dancers resemble the flight of birds. The costumes are usually black in colour, made from a velvety material and embelished with striking decorations. • Festivals: Tadau Ka'amatan, Magavau and Moginakan Tadau Ka'amatan is a harvest festival celbrated in the month of May.Festivities begin on 1 May and extend throughout the month, culminating in the grand celebration on 30 and 31 May. • Places to Visit: Monsopiad Heritage Village, located 16km from Kota Kinabalu City Centre, showcasing the lives of the famous Kadazan warrior tribe called the “Monsopiad”, a fearsome warrior who lived in the village of Kuai nearly 200 years ago, and culture of Kadazandusun tribe through guided tours, storytelling, traditional music, dance, food, games and so much more. The attractions of the village are “House of Skulls” which displays 42 human skulls, Moyang River Hanging Bridge, Monsopiad Museum, Paddy Fields, Traditional Kadazan Rice Barn, souvenir shop and a jungle trail to Ceremonial Hall.
