Project Management Tips For Problem Solving

Keep Things Simple

Sometimes, you need to know everything about a problem. Other times, it's better to focus on the parts that are most important and leave the rest out of your analysis. In order for this approach to work, you have to be able to identify what is actually important in any given situation by asking yourself some basic questions:

What do I need?

Why am I doing this project?

How will we measure success at the end of it?

(And how will we define "success"?)

Don't Over-Define the Problem

If you want to solve the problem, don't get bogged down in details. Don't assume you know what the problem is and don't jump to conclusions. Don't worry about being wrong, or even if you are right--the point is that whatever solution comes out of this process will be better than what was there before and will help move your organization forward toward its goals.

Consider Your Audience

The first step to solving problems is knowing your audience. Who are they? What do they want to hear? How can you use this information to influence them and, ultimately, solve the problem?

Let's say that you're working on a project for a client who wants an app built for their company. You could present them with several different options: one that does everything they need and another that does half the things but looks better. If it's clear from the beginning that this client cares more about aesthetics than functionality (or vice versa), then presenting either option would be appropriate because it aligns with their needs as an end user and helps both parties determine which path makes more sense going forward.

Think Outside the Box

The first thing you need to do is think outside the box.

Let's say you are working on a project and have hit a roadblock: you cannot find a solution to your problem. In this situation, it's important to consider the problem from a different perspective or angle. If you still don't see an answer after thinking about it from this new perspective, then try considering it from yet another angle until finally coming up with something that works for you!

Break It Down into Smaller Parts

When you're trying to solve a problem, it's easy for your brain to get stuck in a loop of thinking about how big and overwhelming the issue is. This can lead you down an endless rabbit hole of worry and frustration with no end in sight. One way to avoid this is by breaking down your problem into smaller parts that are easier to deal with individually--and more importantly, something that can be achieved in a reasonable amount of time! This will help keep you motivated and focused on the task at hand instead of feeling overwhelmed by its enormity. And if all goes according your plan, these smaller steps will eventually lead up towards solving your entire issue once again (but hopefully this time without any roadblocks).
